Aikuisten oikeesti - For real, this time

Hahaa, juksasin vaikka ei olekaan vielä aprillipäivä. Ei ne nyt ihan kaikki langat minulle olleet. Tässä ovat minun ostokseni. Mutta kuinka moni ihan oikeasti uskoi että kaikki ne langat olivat minun?

Hahaa, the joke's on you even though it's not April fool's day. Not all of the yarns in the previous post were mine. Here's what I got. But seriously, how many of you actually believed the whole amount was for me?

Karnaluksista ja muualta, sateenkaarenväristä vironvillaa (Revontuli-huivia varten), Lane Cervinian Super Tajmahalia tummanvihreänä (70% merinovillaa, 22% silkkiä, 8% kashmiria) ja saman tehtaan Val Gardena-lankaa (60% merino, 40% akryyli). Hiukan mietin langan keinokuitupitoisuuden äärellä mutta vihreä väri oli äärettömän kaunis.

From Karnaluks and other place I got rainbow-coloured Estonian wool (for Revontuli-huivi), Lana Cervinia's Super Tajmahal in dark green (70% merino, 22% silk, 8% kashmir) and from the same company Val Gardena (60% merino, 40% acrylic). I pondered a bit about the high acrylic content but the green colour was so beautiful I had to get it.

From Karnaluks also various paraphernalia: buttons, iron-on flowers, safety pins and fasteners made with satin ribbon.

Ja pitihän sitä ostaa myös sitä ohutta huivilankaakin. Tämä on Liann Longadista, joka sijaitsee nykyään Kaubamajan alakerrassa. Mukaan lähti tummaa ruskeaa, harmaata, vaaleaa lilaa ja lehmuksenviherää. Aloitin poikittainhuivia Hyvänneuleetien tyyliin aiemmalla reissulla mukaan tarttuneesta Titan Woolista ja musta-purppura vaihtuikin purppura-tummaharmaa-vaalealilaksi. Ruskea ja vihreä löytänevät saman muodon (ehkä yhdessä mustan kanssa) koristamaan tummanruskeaa kevättakkia. Mutta ehkä olisikin pitänyt aloittaa siitä?

Vietin tovin kerien puolikkaita vyyhtejä kerälle. Vaikka käytössä onkin kerijälaite ja vyyhdinpuut, niin eipä tuo silti mitään riemunkiljahduksia aiheuttanut. Lanka kun on hiukkasen ohutta (1400m/100g) niin päätin käyttää kaksinkertaista lankaa. Sepä ei sitten sujunutkaan niin hyvin kun yritti keriä kerästä sisältä ja ulkoa otetuista päistä uuden kerän. Sen ensimmäisen jälkeen siis, se onnistui niin hyvin että päätin kokeilla myös muiden kanssa. Mutta jälki oli sen näköistä ettei siitä viitsinyt ottaa kuvaa kun heikkohermoisimmille olisi voinut tulla paha olo.

And yes, I bought think merino wool also. This pile is from Liann Longad, which is now at Kaubamaja. I got dark brown and grey, light violet and green. I saw this nice scarf in Good Knit's Road and got the idea from there. I started my scarf on the way there from the Titan Wool's I got on my earlier trip. They were just using up space in my stash but after I saw that scarf I dug them out. But, I was a bit unsure of the colour combo so I abandoned the black and I'll be using dark grey and light violet with the purple instead. And the dark grey and green will become another one to adorn my new spring coat I got, which is conveniently very dark brown (and maybe I'll throw in some black too).

I spent a while winding half skeins of this yarn. Even though I have a ball winder and a swift at my disposal it was still no walk in the park. I definitely developed some bad vibes towards this particular yarn. And maybe I should stay away from Grignasco's Merino-Silk also. The yarn is very thin (1400m/100g) so I decided to use it doubled. I got it to balls somewhat ok but when I tried to make it doubled by takin the end from the inside and outside to wind them together it seemed to end in mess. After the first one that is. That was a 100% success that encouraged me to try it with the others too. But I ended up with such horrible results that I did not have the heart to take any photos for those of more sensitive disposition might have felt ill.

Kohtuus kaikessa - Moderation is the key

Kävin Tallinnassa enkä ostanut yhtään lankaa. Mitä nyt ihan vähän vaan tarttui mukaan.

I went to Tallinn and didn't buy any yarn. Well, a couple of odd balls...

Ruusuja keväällä? - Roses in spring?

Vaikka ulkona on mittarin mukaan -2 astetta nyt, niin eikö maaliskuu ole jo kevättä? Ja ruusuista vastaa Autumn Rose. Tilasin ohjeen (ok, Simply Shetland kirjanen 4, mutta tuon takia sen tilasin)ja kirjakauppa oli nopea ja sain sen jo. Harmikseni minulla on vain kahdeksan väriä Kamenaa, ja puseroon tarvitaan 11. Eli on pakko mennä lankakauppaan *huokaus*. Mutta näistä väreistä lähdetään liikkeelle, saa nähdä mihin päädytään. Kah, sopivasti 24 silmukkaa mallineuleessa, taitaa toteutua neulekoneella tämä.

Although there's -2 degrees C outside isn't March spring already? As for the roses, I ordered the pattern for Autumn Rose. Well, what I really ordered was Simply Shetland book 4 but the other patterns are of little interest to me. The bookshop was quick and I have it already, sadly I only have eight colours of Kamena and the pattern demands for 11 colours. So I'll be forced to visit a yarn shop *sigh*. But these colours are the starting point, we'll see what I'll end up with. What do you know, there's 24 stitches in the pattern...me thinks the knitting machine is calling.

Pieni on kaunista - Small is beautiful

Täällä tehdään vaan pikkutöitä. En oikein osaa päättää mitä isoa sitä seuraavaksi tekisi joten tulee näperrettyä kaikenlaista. Secret Pal-vaihdossa saamani Zen Stringin Bambewe päätyi kerran jo Bainbridgeksi, jonka hukkasin. Sitä jäi reilusti, joten siitä tuli toinen samanlainen (nauhat puuttuvat vielä) ja sitä jäi vieläkin joten nyt siitä tulee kämmekkäät, kärjestä aloitettuna. Mutta...ensimmäisestä versiosta purin parisen senttiä lankaa, jonka pitäisi olla jossain. Ja jossain se onkin, nyt sitä tarvittaisiin mutta eipä löydy, ei. Ja ei, en vieläkään ole paikallistanut puuttuvaa Silk Garden -kerääni. Onko meillä löydetty siis lanka-avaruuden musta aukko johon pikkukerät katoavat? Laajeneeko se ja rupeaako se seuraavaksi imemään kokonaisia keriä? Mitä tapahtuu seuraavaksi? Ovatko suomen lampaat vaarassa? Pitääkö ilmoittaa NASA:lle tai Cernille? Tuleeko Karhu koputtelemaan ovelle?

Here's making small knits. I can't seem to decide what large to start next so I'm just stalling. I got some Zen String Bambewe from my Secret Pal and it became a Bainbridge scarf, which I lost. I got plenty of left-overs so I started another (it is still missing the ties) and I had still some left-overs and I started fingerless gloves, top-down. But...I ripped a couple of sentimeters from the first scarf and that should be somewhere. I'm in need of it for I'm running out or yarn. And guess what? I can't seem to find it. And I still haven't found my missing Noro Silk Garden. Have I located the black hole of yarn universe? What will happen next? Will it start to eat whole balls next? Are the sheep of Finland in danger? Should I notify NASA or Cern? Will some secret task force come knocking at my door?

Ja langanhukka ei ole ainoa outo asia täällä. Jotain kummaa on tapahtumassa kaktuksessanikin. Se on monen vuoden hiljaiselon jälkeen ruvennut tehtailemaan jälkeläisiä, mutta huomaatteko oudon kytköksen veljesten välillä. Käyttääkö toinen toista hyväkseen? Imeeko isoveli pikkuveljensä kuiviin? Pitääkö tästä ilmoittaa Seiskalle tai peräti Hymyyn? Karpokaan ei enää välitä, mikä siis avuksi?

And mysterious yarn-dissappearances aren't the only things strange around here. Look at my cactus. After numerous years of laying low and taking it easy it has started to produce offspring. But look what's happening, there's a mysterious connection between the siblings. Is the big brother bad and trying to suck the little one dry? Should I notify the tabloids? Or maybe Dr. Phil?

Pikkutöitä ja tuumailua - Small things and musings

Kiharalangat on kuritettu ja osa kashmirista päätyi jo tähän muotoon. Toinen Bainbridge. Sitä olen jo pitänyt ja se on todella lämmin ja pehmeä. Mokoma rääpäle vei vain 30 g lankaa ja jäljellä olisi vielä 20 g joista aloitin jo kämmekkäitä. Olisi vaan pitänyt varmaan aloittaa sormista päin, koska nyt iski "onkohan minulla tarpeeksi lankaa"-ahdistus. Ja se aiheutti temppulua vaa'an kanssa - 4 kpl 2mm:n metallisia sukkapuikkoja painaa muuten 8 g. No, ehkä sitä pitää vain neuloa yksi valmiiksi, eipä tuosta nyt katastrofia tule jos se pitää purkaa ja lyhentää vartta.

Managed to tame part of my curly yarns into another Bainbridge. This small thing took only 30 g of cashmere, and it is so soft and warm. Had 20 g leftovers and started fingerless mittens with it. I probably should have started from the top since I'm not sure if I have enough yarn left. Thus I started fooling around with the scales - incidentally 4 pcs of 2mm metallic dpns weigh 8 grams. Maybe I just have to finish one, it's not like it's the first time I've had to rip anything, if it comes to that.

Ja Hiljan suosion innoittamana rupesin heti tehtailemaan mallitilkkuja (tosin en tiedä onko se enää suosittu siinä vaiheessa kun joku sitä ihan neuloo). Colourmartin paksuhko silkki-kashmir väriä Ming joutui uhriksi. Jotain hieman kellomaista mallineuletta ja kierrettyä joustinta syntyi. Tästä olisi kyllä ihana tehdä jotain mutta valitettavasti lankaa on vain 300 grammaa (1000 jaardia) joten en tiedä saako siitä sellaista mitä haikailen, mutta samalla mallikuviolla on syntymässä muitakin tilkkuja. Kahtellaan, sano.

And buoyed by the reception of Hilja (though I'm not so sure if it's still well received after someone actually starts to knit it) I started making swatches. Colourmart's silk-cashmere in Ming was the first on the needles. Something with a slight bell-like design and twisted rib formed. Love the yarn, but unfortunately I only have two cones (1000 yards) of it so I'm not sure if I'll be able to make much out of it. But other swatches are on the way.

Omstart

Olen harrastanut myös antineulontaa. Kas tässä, saatu runsaasti ryppylankaa aikaiseksi. Näin niitä grammoja tulee takaisin.

I've done some anti-knitting too. Look here, plenty of curly yarn as a result. Here's one way to gain grams.

Mitäpä ylläolevasta löytyykään...muistatteko kashmirsormikkaat? Niistä tuli liian isot eikä niitä tullut liiemmälti pidettyä koska niistä menee tuuli läpi - liian kylmät talvella ja kuumat lämpimämmällä. Tämän tulevaisuudessa siintää Bainbridge koska lanka on niin pehmeää että sitä haluaa pitää lähellä ihoa.

Seuraavaksi löytyy Papillon-huivi. Mallissa ei mitään vikaa (tietenkään), mutta lanka (Silk Garden Fine) on liian karheaa herkälle kaulalleni. Uutta lankaa huivia varten löytyy pehmeämmässä muodossa, lähes saman värisenäkin, joten tästä voisi sitten tulla jotain sormikkaan tapaista ainakin.

Viimeiseksi on myös huivi, Vintage Velvet Noron Cash Irohasta. Tai siis, entinen sellainen. Lanka on ihanaa mutta huivista tuli liian kapea ja pitkä. Pohdin tovin sen lyhentämistä yhden vyyhdin verran mutta totesin että ei se leveys siitä kyllä kasva, joten tuskin sitä tulisi pidettyä. Joten, purkutuomion alle päätyi sekin. Tämän tulevaisuudesta ei ole varmaan tietoa, mutta huiviksi se päätyy kyllä uudestaankin.

But what is there, in the photo above, you might wonder. Well, do you remember the cashmire gloves? Well, they were a bit too big and I didn't wear them much for on top of that they were too cold to wear in winter (lets wind through) and too warm to wear in milder times. Me thinks a Bainbride is in their future for the yarn so soft I want to wear it close to me.

Second we find the Papillon scarf. There's nothing wrong with the pattern (obviously, since it's mine), but the yarn (Noro Silk Garden Fine) is way too rough for my tender neck. But, I have another Noro yarn in store for a new yarn in almost the same colourway but in a softer form so these might become gloves or something.

Last, there's Vintage Velvet from Noro's Cash Iroha. Or I should say was, since it's now a pile of curly yarn. I love the yarn but the scarf was way too long and skinny for my taste. I thought about shortening it for a bit but that would have not made it any wider so I decided to frog it. I don't have a clear picture of its future in my head but it will become a scarf of some sort again.

Näin tänään. Jos ei halua ostaa uusia lankoja niin aina voi käyttää uudelleen vanhoja. Ja ei, en vieläkään ole onnistunut löytämään kadonnutta Silk Garden-kerää. Luulen että kissa on syönyt sen.

Here's the story today. If one does not want to buy new yarn one can always re-use the old ones. And no, I still haven't been able to find the one missing ball of Silk Garden. I'm beginning to think the cat has eaten it.

Salaisuuksia ja mässäystä - Secrets and gluttony

Irc-kanavalla järjestettiin myös salainen neulontaystävä -vaihto ja itsekin osallistun siihen. Sain ensimmäisen paketin perjantaina, ja kuten aina, posti oli mukavaa. Kirjeestä löytyi heijastin (unohtui kuvasta), kaunis kortti, karkkia, tryffelinmakuista rooibosta (kuulostaa mielenkiintoiselta mutta en vielä ehtinyt maistamaan) ja suklaata, joka ei päässyt kuvaan koska söin sen jo. Kiitoksia salaiselle ystävälle, odotan innolla seuraavia paketteja.

The irc channel where I hang out decided to arrange a secret exchange too. Here's the first package that I got on Friday. There was truffel flavoured rooibos (not sampled yet), some candy, a lovely card, a reflector (which I forgot from the photo) and some chocolate which was also left out because I ate it already. Lots of thanks for the secret pal, eagerly waiting for further mail.

Olin viikonloppuna muualla ja neulottuakin tuli. Kashmirhuivi on jo melkein puolessavälissä, mutta silti olen vasta ensimmäisessä kerässä. Omituista. Ehkä se neulonnan musta aukko on nyt sitten minun kerässäni? Neuloo vain mutta lanka ei lopu?

I was away during the weekend and I did knit some. The cashmir scarf is almost at its halfway point but I'm still on my first ball. Weird. Maybe the famous black hole of knitting is inside my ball now? One keeps on knitting but the yarn does not run out?

Koska talvi on ollut lepsu, niin oravillakin on ollut makoisat oltavat. Tässäpä otantaa populaatiosta. Ei ehkä ihan missimitoissa?

And since the winter has been mild the squirrels have had it easy. Here's a sample from the local population. Not quite up to the model standard, eh?

Hiljaa hyvä tulee - Easy does it

Nähtävästi valokuvienkin kanssa. Kävimme kuvaussessiolla metsässä ja tässä paras kuva. Joku ei huomauttanut että paita oli rumasti rypyllä liivin alla ja näkyi outoina muhkuroina vyötäröllä. Ihankuin siellä ei olisi tarpeeksi jo omasta takaa... Mutta siinä se nyt on, valmiina, Hilja siis. Mietin vielä lisäänkö kaula-aukon ympärille nappikoristeita vaiko en. Ainakin tarvitaan lisää kuvia.

Apparently with photos also. We went outside to take some photos today and somebody did not point out that my blouse was not very smooth underneath and made weird shapes around the waist (not like there isn't enough already). But there it is, finished, Hilja that is. I'm still debating whether to add button decorations around the front or not. But I definitely need some new photos.

Vaiheneulontaa - Knitting in phases

Ensin esittelyssä vaihe joka tunnetaan nimellä alkuvaihe. Tässä vaiheessa on tällä hetkellä yksi neule eli Alaskalainen kashmir joka muotoutuu hitaasti huiviksi. Ensimmäistä mallikertaa tekeillä, ja jo heti siinä on Virhe. Salamavalo paljastaa karun totuuden - eikun purkamaan. Ei ehkä kaikkein parasta neuletapaamisneulontaa vaikka kaaviossa ei sinänsä mitään vaikeaa olekaan mutta keskittymiskykyä vaaditaan kuitenkin.

First we have what is commonly called as a starting phase. There is one knit currently in this stage, the cashmir yarn from alaska is slowly becoming a lacy scarf. And already there is a mistake, the dreaded flash reveals it all. A-ripping-we-will-go. Maybe not the best one to take along to a knit meet, although the pattern is easy some concentration is required.

Seuraavana on keskivaihe. Päivät ovat olleet hyviä joustinneuleen tekemiseen, joten Rosemoor-takista uupuu enää toinen hiha ja etureunakaistale. Tai niinhän sitä luulisi. Kuvaustilaisuus paljasti tässäkin virheen. Olisiko tullut kaksi samanlaista etukappaletta? No olisihan sitä, vaikka kuinka kovasti yritin sitä välttää. Onneksi reunajoustimet ovat sentään peilikuvat, niinkuin pitkikin. Purkamista tiedossa siis tämänkin osalta.

Next we come to the middle phase. Days have been good for ribbing so Rosemoor is missing but a sleeve and the edge piece. Or so one would think until the photo shoot revealed a startling fact. Did someone manage to make two similar front pieces? Yes, one did. Luckily the rib edges are mirror images so I won't have to rip all out. Down to the frog pond for this one then too.

Seuraavat neuleet lähestyvät jo loppuvaihetta. Tätä vaihetta voisi kutsua nimellä "viimeistelyä vaille". Hilja-liivi kaipaa enää reunajoustimia ja koristeluja. Mutta se sopii ja näyttää hyvältä päällä eikä siinä ole näkyviä virheitä (vaikka se joutuikin yliajon uhriksi, huomatkaa kuvassa vilahtava kissanjalka).

Next knits are apporaching the finished stage. But this stage could be called as "waiting for the finishing touches". Hilja-vest is missing but the ribbed edges and decorations and so far so good, no major mistakes visible (though it was run over, note the back leg of the furry thing visible in the picture).

Ja Bainbridge 2 kaipaa enää nauhoja ja lankojen päättelyä. Lanka on vieläkin kaunista ja pehmää ja pidän siitä kovin. Toivottavasti tämän elinikä on pidempi kuin edeltäjän.

And Bainbridge 2 is missing the ties and weaving the ends. May the lifetime of this one be longer than the previous. The yarn is still lovely and soft and I like it very much.

Sain siivousinnostuksen viikonloppuna, ja löytyi kaikenlaista ylimääräistä josta olisi hyvä päästä eroon. Niinpä listaan ne tänne, jos kiinnostaa niin yhteydenottoa vaan.

Epämäämääräisiä neulelehtiä vuodelta miekka ja kirves: Parhaat neuleet kevät 1995, Suuri Käsityö 8/1994 (kaava-arkki mukana), Suuri Käsityö 8/1996 (kaava-arkki mukana), Uudet käsityöt 6/1994 (kaava-arkki mukana), Parhaat neuleet kesä 1996 ja Kauneimmat käsityöt 3/1998. Ai, pieni lisäys vielä, kamat oleskelleet kissallisessa taloudessa. Vaikka kissa ja neuletarvikkeet pyritään pitämään erossa, ja minkäänlainen kieriskely tai ylenmääräinen lemmellisyys lankoja ja -tarvikkeita kohtaan ei ole suotavaa, niin silti sitä kissa-ainesta taloudessa lilluu. Jos olet siis ylenmäärin allerginen, niin terve varovaisuus kannattanee.

Kolmas kerta toden sanoo? - Third time's the charm?

Täällä on poettu hieman neuleplääh-tautia. Neulottu on kyllä innokkaasti, ja palmikkopaita rupesi näyttämään valmiilta (ja ei, en vieläkään ole löytänyt sitä yhtä kerää Silk Gardenia, harkitsen tilaamista). Kunnes sovitin sitä ja totesin sen hieman pieneksi hartioiden ympäriltä. Lanka ei olisi riittänyt, joten se päätyi tähän tilaan.

I've been having a small case of knit-blaah here. I've knitted furiously and my cable sweater was starting to look finished (and no, I still haven't located that one missing ball of Silk Garden, thinking of ordering). Until I tried it on, that is. I found out that it was a bit small around the shoulders and I was fast running out of yarn. Thus, it ended up in the above state.

Mutta hätä ei ollut sen näköinen (tai niin luulin) sillä löysin langalle mielestäni kivan uuden kohteen: Boatneck Bluebell Sweater kirjasta Fitted Knits. Pääsin jo erottamaan hihat vartalosta ja olen neulomassa ensimmäistä hihaa, muttamutta... Siitä näyttää tulevan kovin leveä, hihasta siis ja ehkä vartalo-osassakin on muutama ylimääräinen silmukka. Enkä ole ollenkaan varma tuosta venepääntiestä. Purkaako vai ei, kas siinä pulma! Siispä päätin laittaa sen syrjään ja kaivoin maitolankaliivin esille. Jos siitä tulee hyvä, sen nimeksi voisi tulla Hilja.

But no worries (or so I thought) for I found a new pattern for the yarn: Boatneck Bluebell Sweater from Fitted Knits. I already separated the sleeves from the body and started on the first sleeve, but... It seems to turn out quite wide, the sleeve that is and maybe there's a few too many stitches in the body part also. And I'm not at all sure about the boatneck. To rip or not to rip, that is the question! So I decided to think on it a bit and dug out the milk yarn vest. If it turns out nice I thought I'd name it Hilja (there is an old Finnish movie called Hilja, the milkmaid).

Jorinaa - Random talk

Kuten joku ehkä huomasi, laitoin englanninkielisen käännöksen sukkaohjeestani blogiini. En viitsinyt tuohon mitään ylimääräistä tekstiä laittaa, niin siksi näin. Olin jo aiemmin kääntänyt ohjeen Secret Pal-vaihtoa varten ja laitoin sen parilleni viimeisessä paketissa sukkalangan kera (ja vähän muun). Ajattelin että olisin julkaissut sen samaan aikaan blogipostauksen kanssa, mutta laitetaan se sitten nyt kun joku Ravelryssä kyseli sen perään. Salainen ystäväni oli muuten Kelly Floridasta.

Maybe someone already noticed that I put up an English translation of my sneaker socks-pattern. I didn't want to put any extra text there so I put it into a different post. I had made the translation previously for the Secret Pal-exchange. I put the pattern and some sock yarn (and some other bits) in the last package and I thought to publish it in time with a blog post. But since someone in Ravelry asked for it, well, it's here now. My Secret Pal was Kelly from Florida, btw. Oh, and if you use the pattern please let me know of any mistakes (I corrected a few already) and I would be very interested in seeing what kind of socks you make too.

Sneaker-socklets in English

Sneaker-socklets

These socks were born because I liked the shape of some sports anklets I bought and decided to make ones myself. Short, higher on the back - that is.

The socks are knitted toe-up and with shaping so that each leg has its own sock. And to avoid the boredom of plain stockinette there's a simple lace motif on the instep.

Yarn:

Shoeller+Stahl Fortissima Socka (colour 1012) 50 g (75% wool, 25% nylon, 210 m/50 g) or other suitable yarn

Gauge

32 s and 48 rows = 10 cm

Needles

2 mm or the size to get the gauge

Size

Female, about size EUR39, circumference of the foot about 22 cm

Pattern

Cast on 28 stitches with a suitable method (figure 8 method used here). Knit two rounds on the stitches and divide them on four needles (7 s/needle). Increases are on every other row on each needle one stitch away from the edge so that on 1st and 3rd needle you increase before the last stitch and on 2nd and 4th after the first stitch. This way the increases are on both sides of the tip.

Right sock

On left side of the tip add 5x1 stitches on both needles and on the right side add 15x1 stitches on both needles = 68 stitches. Note: add only one stitch/needle on increase row. After the increases divide the stitches evenly on the needles = 17 s/needle.

Knit two rows and start the lace motif (chart, note that the chart shows only the center of the pattern). Note that the chart shows every other row. In this sock the center of the motif sets in the highest point of the instep if you do the following: knit 3 stitches, start the pattern.

Continue knitting and the lace pattern until the sock measures about 18 cm from the tip. Turn the heel. In this sock it was done using hourglass heel (make decreases until there is 7s / needle and continue on to increases without making any additional rows) but you can choose whatever heel suits you. Knit one row after the heel (the lace motif has ended by now).

After which start the heel heightening. Continue the work on only 1st and 4th needles (the heel needles) and leave the rest waiting. The heightening of the heel is done by short rows, ie. do not knit the last stitch on the needle but turn and continue back (use wraps or other suitable technique to avoid holes). Leave the last stitch of the row on the needle every row. Continue until you have 9 s/needle left to work with. Now you should be between the 1st and 4th needle. Begin 1x1 rib. Knit rib for four rows and then bind off. Do the binding off tightly around the curved places and loosely elsewhere. That way you will get a stretchy edge without it being too loose around the higher part on the back.

Left sock

Make a mirror image of the right sock.

Tips

The socklets are easily fitted to your feet because you can try them on as you go. If the amount of stitches is too big you can stop the increases when the tip reaches the base of the toes. But remember to adjust the lace motif placement. If you do a shorter sock you can start the motif on a later row (fewer stitches between the yarn overs).

Note: This pattern is not meant for beginners. Not all techniques mentioned are explained so you might need to find information elsewhere.

Chart

The chart shows stitches for every other row (knit every other row) and the center of the pattern only.

Neuleraahauksen alkeita - Basics of knit-dragging

Blogikissa otti ja kehitti diabeteksen. Harmi sinänsä, sillä munuaisten vajaatoiminta näyttää nyt pysyvän dieetin avulla kurissa mainiosti sillä veriarvot olivat normaaleja. No, nyt sitten on riittänyt hupia kun piikitämme kissaa insuliinilla kaksi kertaa päivässä. Karvakorva ei tosin itse huomaa välttämättä mitään, mikä on hyvä. Selvää piristymistä on havaittu, ja oppia on kenties haettu Marjutin kissoilta, sillä valvovan silmän ollessa poissa oli raahattu kaksi hihanalkua keskelle lattiaa. Siitä se lähtee.

The blog cat went and got herself a diabetes. Which is a shame since the kidney problem seems to be quite under control now with the diet for the last bloodwork was normal. Fun has been had by injecting the cat with insulin two times a day. Luckily the furry creature doesn't usually even register the event. But there has been some effect already, the cat seems much perkier and has followed the example of Marjut's cats for when the all seeing eye left the building the cat had dragged the two on-going sleeves in the middle of the floor.

Hihat ovat tuosta edenneet, ehkä noin puoliväliin. Kirjanpito ei ole ihan ajantasalla, sillä minulla ei ole minkäänlaista muistikuvaa montako lankakerää tilasin ko. lankaa (Jaeger Extra Fine Merino Aran). Lankapussin pohja näkyy jo ja hihoista puuttuu vielä runsaasti ja kyllä se kauluskin tulee viemään lankaa. Ehkä olen hajasijoittanut niitä jonnekin? Kannattaisi pitää kirjanpito ajantasalla eikä harrastaa itsepetosta.

The sleeves have progressed from that point up to about half-way. My bookkeeping is not very accurate for I have no idea how many balls I ordered of the yarn (Jaeger Extra Fine Merino Aran). The bottom can be seen already and I'm still missing about half of the sleeves and the big collar will take up some yarn too. Maybe I've re-located the rest somewhere? It would be a really good idea to keep the stash records up to date and not practice self-deception.

Etsivä ei löydä - Seek and you shall not find

Elämä voittaa, nyt on jo suhteellisen terve olo. Huomenna sitten taas töihin. Neuloakin ole voinut jo. Esmeralda on edelleenkin kesken, mokoma. Huivi on viimeistä riviä vaille valmis, mutta lanka loppui. Tiedän että minulla on sitä kertaalleen neulottuna ja purettuna yhden kerän verran, mutta kiihkeistä etsinnöistä huolimatta sitä ei ole löytynyt. Purkaa en halua, koska ei se muutenkaan mitenkään järjettömän pitkä ole (toim. huom. pingoitusta ei ole vielä tehty). En kyllä ymmärrä minne se kerä on hävinnyt, luulin tietäväni missä se on. Grr...ja tuota väriä ei taida oikein mistään enää saada (Noro Silk Garden 225) enkä viitsisi yhden kerän vuoksi tilatakaan mistään ulkomailta. Olkoon vaiheessa, ehkä se puuttuva kerä ilmaantuu vielä jostain. En minä sitä nyt poiskaan ole heittänyt.

Life prevails and I'm feeling almost healthy again. So back to work tomorrow. I've been able to knit too. Esmeralda is still unfinished, unfortunately. It's missing the last row but I ran out of yarn. I know I have one ball of it once knit and frogged somewhere. Can't find it thought, and not for the lack of trying. I don't want to frog any of the scarf I've knitted for it does not seem too long (haven't done any stretching yet). I have no idea where the ball has vanished for I thought I knew were I'd find it. Grr...and that colour is discontinued, methinks (Noro Silk Garden 225) and I can't really be bothered to order it from somewhere abroad for I only need one ball, or part of it anyway. I guess I'll just leave it be for a while until I figure out what to do with it. Maybe it'll turn up somewhere for I know I haven't thrown it away.

Vaihdoin siis palmikoihin. Jatkoin joulukuussa aloittamaani villapaitaa ja nyt on etukappalekin valmis. Tässä ne komeilevat päällekkäin. Nyt vielä vaan hihat ja kaulus ja kah, se on valmis. Lanka on ennakkotiedoista poiketen mallia Aran, ei Chunky. Etukappaleen ohjeissa oli jotain hämärää, joten sovelsin hieman ja kaventelin kauluksen reunoissa hieman enemmän kuin mitä vaadittiin. Lankaa on mukava neuloa ja jäljestä tulee kiva. Tykkään.

I changed to cables and continued the sweater I started in December. Now there's both front and back pieces done. Here's them on top of each other. It's just sleeves and collar and I'm done. The yarn is not Chunky as I wrote earlier but Aran. There was something iffy about the instructions on the front piece so I did a few more decreases for the front edge that was called for and it looks good to me. The yarn knits up nicely and the result looks nice too. Me likey.

Feeling blue

Nyt on päällä kunnon tauti. Kuumettakin parhaimmillaan melkein 39 astetta. Eilen kävin lääkärissä ja sain troppia joiden voimalla olo on suhteellisen inhimillinen noin puolet ajasta. Kunnes niiden teho lakkaa. No, toivottavasti antibiootit purevat nopeasti.

Gah, feeling really sick now. Temperature is around 39°C at worst. Went to the doctor yesterday and got a bag of drugs that help me feel almost human for about half of the time. Until their effect wears off. Well, hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon.

Tässäpä kuvaa kietaisuneuleen alusta jota olen tehnyt silloin tällöin. Tein takakappaleen jo aiemmin, mutta siitä tuli liian iso ja purin sen ja tein uuden. Toinen etukappalekin on valmis. Nämä syntyivät viikonloppuna, kun oli vielä suhteellisen hyvä olo. Lankana on Jaegerin Luxury Tweed väriä Imperial ja tästä on tarkoitus tulla Rosemoor. Neulottu koneella. Soveltuu siihen aika hyvin, karvaa vain aika tavalla. Olen myös todennut että aina ei ole hyvä joustinneuleentekopäivä. Pari kertaa teki mieli heittää kone seinään kun se ei vaan onnistunut. Mutta välillä sitten se meni kuin unelma. Ota tuosta nyt sitten selkoa.

Here's a photo of the start of a cardi. I've been doing this for a while now, taking it slow. I made the back piece ages ago, but had to frog and re-knit it for it was a bit too big. Finished one of the front pieces too. These happened during the weekend when I was still feeling humanish. The yarn is Luxury Tweed by Jaeger in colour Imperial and they're to become Rosemoor. I've used my machine to do these and the yarn suits it fine, it just sheds somewhat. I've also noticed that not every day is a good day for making rib. A couple of times I've felt like throwing the machine against the wall but other times the ribbing goes like dream. Must be the phase of the moon or something like that.

Luxury Tweed katosi markkinoilta jo kauan ennenkuin koko Jaegerin linja lakkautettiin. Voisikohan tässä olla yksi syy? Vesi näytti tällaiselta kappaleen kostutuksen jälkeen. Onneksi seuraava huuhteluvesi oli lähes kirkasta, että ehkä siitä nyt on lähtenyt ylimääräiset värit. En kyllä odottanut moista kaupalliselta langalta.

Luxury Tweed vanished from the market a long time before they discontinued the Jaeger line altogether. Maybe there's one reason above? This is what the water in the sink looked after soaking the garment for a bit in lukewarm water. Luckily the next rinse turned out almost clear so hopefully the excess dye is gone now. But didn't expect something like that from industrial yarn.

Olen sattuneesta syystä katsellut ihan kiitettävästi dvd:tä tässä viikolla. Sain vihdoinkin katsottua loppuun myös Jeeves&Wooster-boksini. Ja muistan miksi se jäi hiukan sivuun. Jokaisen levyn alussa pakkokatsotetaan se "piracy is a crime"-mainos joka pyöri elokuvissakin taannoin. Rasittavaa, sitä ei pysty ohittamaan mitenkään. En kyllä ymmärrä miksi ne kiusaavat boksin ostaneita asiakkaita noin. Tuollaisella ei kyllä saa ystäviä ja vaikutusvaltaa.

For obvious reasons I've watched a lot of dvd:s this week. I finally finished my Jeeves&Wooster box. And I remember why I put it aside. They force you to watch this "piracy is a crime" ad at the beginning of each and every disk. It is highly annoying and you can't bypass it. I can't understand why they torture people who have bought the box in that way. Not a very good way to win friends and influence people.

Huivi ja sen kaveri - A scarf and its mate

Esmeralda on kasvanut ihan kiitettävästi. Tässä vaiheessa olen menossa jo kuudennessa kerässä. Tai no, puoli kerää edellisestä jäi kun siinä oli solmu harmittavassa paikassa. Yllättävän paljon tuo syö lankaa, pelkään että siitä ei tule tarpeeksi pitkää että sen saisi kunnolla kiedottua kaulaan ja olen vielä onnistunut hävittämään seitsemännen kerän jonnekin. Rasittavaa. Tein siitä mallitilkun kun aioin tehdä Dibs on Ribs-puseron mutta luovuin aikeista kun siitä olisi tullut napapaita. Olen etsinyt sitä jo parista paikasta mutta...kadoksissa on. Enkä ole vielä päättänyt mitä laitan reunoihin, hapsuja en halua. Varpaat jätetty tahallaan mittatikuiksi. Lanka sopii kyllä tähän malliin täydellisesti, kauniit värit pääsevät oikeuksiinsa ilman että tulisi sitä tavallista raitaa.

Esmeralda has grown quite a bit since the last photo. I'm on the sixth ball already. Or not really, I had half a ball from the last skein because there was a knot on the yarn at a very inconvenient point. It eats up yarn surprisingly fast and I'm afraid it will not be long enough to wrap around the neck properly. I have managed to loose the seventh ball somewhere. I remember I made a swatch of it when I was considering doing Dibs on Ribs but I didn't since it would have turned out too short. Then I ripped it and...well, it's lost. I've searched for it already but so far nothing. I've yet to decide what to do with the ends since I do not want a normal fringe. The toes are left on the photo in purpose, to give some kind of proportion to the size. But I do like the pattern, it suits the yarn perfectly. You can see all the lovely colours without it being just boring stripes.

Aloitin kuun alussa neuletapaamisessa uutta työtä jonka unohdin esitellä. Eipä silti että siinä mitään ihmeellistä esiteltävää olisikaan, pitsi ennen pingoittamista kun on aika tylsän näköistä. Mutta tässä se alku nyt kuitenkin on. Alaskalainen kashmir pääsi puikoille ja ohje on samasta paketista tulleesta kirjasta, Arctic Lace, malli Skeleton scarf. Sain tapaamisen aikana tehtyä reikäisemmän alkuosuuden.

At the knit meet this month I started another knit that I forgot to show. Not that there's that much to see, unblocked lace doesn't look that appealing. But here's the start anyway. I got the Alaskan cashmire on the needles, the pattern is from the book that was in the same package, Arctic Lace, and it is called Skeleton scarf. I did the more lacy "fringe" part during the meet.

Tässä vähän aukilevitettynä. Lankaa on mukava neuloa mutta hankala valokuvata. Väri kun on jotain ruskeanlilaan vivahtavaa, vähän niinkuin munakoiso mutta ei niin lilaa. Ja vielä meleerattua. Mutta mukavan pehmeää joten odotan innolla valmista tuotetta. Toisaalta aion kyllä pitää sen neuletapaamisneuleena, koska tarvitsen sitä varten pienikokoisen mukavasti mukana kulkevan neuleen. Ehkäpä tämä on valmis sitten sopivasti ensi syksyksi. Pitäähän sitä olla pitkän tähtäimen suunnitelmia.

Here it is a bit stretched. The yarn is nice to knit but hard to photograph. For the colour is somewhat brownish-violet, a bit like eggplant but not that violet. And it is heathered too. But very soft so I'm eagerly anticipating the finished product. Though I have to curb my enthusiasm a bit since I've decided to keep this for knit-meets for I need something that is portable and doesn't take up much space. Maybe this'll be finished just in time for next autumn. One must always plan ahead.

Jotain moniväristä - Something multicoloured

Kiitoksia mukavista kommenteista koskien kirjoneulehihapaitaa. Sitä on tullut pidettyä jo muutamana päivänä ja onpa se kerännyt kiitosta jopa työpaikalla. Jos olisin jotain tehnyt toisin niin olisin tehnyt etukappaleen kirjoneuleosuudesta pidemmän, siten että se olisi lähtenyt kainalosta asti. Mietin kyllä asiaa mutta en sitten jaksanut ruveta laskeskelemaan sitä osiota uudestaan. On se kaunis noinkin.

Thanks for all the nice comments on the fair-isle sleeved top. I've worn it a bit already and it has earned comments even at the workplace. If I had done something differently I would have changed the fair-isle piece on the front so that it would have started at the armpit. I did think about it but I thought it would be too strenuous with all the gauge changes and recalculations. It is quite pretty as it is.

Palmikkopaita Jaegerin Extra Fine Merino Chunkystä sai siirtyä syrjään kun talvi iski tännekin. Inhoan hattuja ja myssyjä noin yleensä enkä haluaisi niitä pitää ennenkuin on pakko. Minulla ei ole hattupää (näytän siis todella typerältä) ja lisäksi ne littaavat muutenkin talven litistämät hiukset ihan totaalisesti. Mutta huivit, ne toimivat, sellaiset siis jotka voi kietoa lämmittämään myös päätä. Siispä aloitin Esmeralda-huivia Ullasta. Pidän siitä mallista koska siinä molemmat puolet ovat samanlaiset ja se toimii itseraidoittuvilla langoilla. Tähän kaivoin Japanista raahaamani Noron Silk Gardenit (väri 225). Mustaa, ruskeata, lilaa, petroolia, vihreää, sinililaa ja punaista. Kuitenkin aika tummasävyistä tuosta värimäärästä huolimatta. Täytyy kyllä sanoa että harvinaisen penseää purettavaa on tuo lanka. Jouduin alussa purkamaan muutaman konttineulerivin kun unohdin reunakolmion yhdeltä riviltä enkä tietenkään huomannut sitä kuin myöhemmin. Mutta nyt sujuu hyvin. Onnistuin löytämään kätköistäni vain kuusi kerää lankaa, vaikka muistelen ostaneeni sitä seitsemän. Yksi piileskelee siis neulekokeilun jäljiltä jossakin. Tässä vaiheessa olen menossa kerässä numero kolme. Nyt vaan näyttävät pakkaset olevan ohi tältä erää.



The cabled sweater from Jaeger Extra Fine Merino Chunky is laid aside for a while. The winter got here finally. And I do dislike caps and hats most fervently. They make me look like an idiot and flatten my already winter-flattened hair even more so I only use them when I absolutely must. But scarves, now they are another matter altogether. And one with such width that it can be wrapped around one's head, now that's ideal. So I started doing Esmeralda from Ulla. I like the pattern for it has no right side (or wrong side) and it works nicely with self-striping yarns. For this I dug up the Noro Silk Gardens I brought back from Japan (colourway 335). There's black, brown, lilac, indigo, teal, green and red. But it still manages to be quite dark despite the many colours listed. Though I must say that it is quite nasty to rip. I had to frog back a few square rows because I forgot to add the edge triangle to one side and of course noticed that much later. But now I'm doing well. I only manged to find six balls of the yarn though I'm pretty sure I bought seven. One must still be lurking somewhere in the house. Now I'm on my third ball. It just looks as though the cold spell is over for now.

Sain uusimman Vogue Knitting-lehdenkin tänään. Parasta oli mielestäni...mainokset. En ollut kauhean innostunut oikeastaan mistään mallista. Palmikko-osastolla oli jotain ihan kivoja ideoita, mutta noin yleensä neuleet olivat jotenkin kovin huonosti istuvan ja roikkuvan näköisiä. No, eihän kaikesta tarvitse pitää.

I got the latest Vogue Knitting today. What I liked best was...the adverts. I wasn't very impressed with this issue. There were some good ideas on the cabled knits department but in general the knits looked quite ill-fitting and a bit shapeless to me. But one can't like everything, now can one?

Valmis! - Done!

Huonojen kuvien kuningatar täällä, iltaa. Päättelin vihdoinkin kirjoneulehihapuseron ja nyt se on sitten valmis. Mutta ne valokuvat, huh. Yritä tässä pimeydessä nyt sitten ottaa jotain järkeviä kuvia jostain mustasävyisestä neulepuserosta.

The queen of bad photos here, evening. I finally wove in the rest of the ends of the fair-isle sleeved top and now it is done. But the photos, whew. It's almost impossible to get any good ones in this darkness while the sweater in question is quite black.

Here it is laying on the bed. Otherwise quite good but there was dust on the lens and ends of the sleeves are missing. Colours are quite good though.

Next I put it on the hanger. Well, what could I say. The colours are good but it's a bit blurry and, well, it hangs.

Itselaukaisimen avulla päällä. Entisen itäsaksan kuulantyöntäjä-lookia ihan selvästi. Mutta se istuu kauniisti. Jospa pitäisi keskittyä vain sukkiin näin talvella. Niitä on hieman helpompi kuvata.

Here's with the aid of the self-timer. Obviously a member of the former East-German women's shot put team. But it fits nicely. Maybe I should concentrate on socks during the winter. They're somewhat easier to photograph.

Kaivellaan vanhoja - Digging at the old stuff

Uusi vuosi on täällä ja uudet neuleet. Tai no, ei ehkä ihan vielä, muutama sananen vanhasta. #neulonta irkkikanavalla päätimme järjestää joululahjavaihdon. Ja minä en tietenkään muistanut ottaa kuvia lähettämistäni (kahvi-suklaapaketti ja Bainbridge+ranteenlämmittimet OnLinen Champ-langasta) mutta onneksi sentään niistä mistä sain. Alla on selvyyden vuoksi pari kuvaa: Riepalta sain lilasävyiset lapaset (joita kohta toivottavasti pääsee pitämään), lammas-cocktailtikkuja ja kissannameja (haisevat voimakkaasti mutta maistuvat hyvin, kissalle siis). Marjutilta sain lilanpunaista Tofutsies-sukkalankaa (siinä on mm. soijaa ja kitiiniä) ja kissaneulemerkkejä. Kiitoksia kivoista lahjoista :-)

It's a new year and new tricks. But before starting any new tricks I thought I'd talk about the old ones a bit more. On the irc-channel #neulonta we decided to organize a xmas present swap. And of course I didn't remember to take any photos of the ones I sent (a package of coffee+chocolate and a Bainbridge-scarf + pulse warmers with OnLine Champ) but luckily I did manage to get some from the ones I got. From Rieppa I got a pair of lovely mittens (which I might possibly have a use for soon), some sheep cocktail-stirrers and some cat snacks (which have a very strong odour but are apparently very delicious). From Marjut I got a ball of Tofutsies yarn (it has soy and chitin on it) and some cat stitch markers. Thanks for the nice presents :-)

Lisäksi huvitin itseäni tekemällä neulekoneella mallitilkkuja Jaegerin Luxury Tweed-langasta. Kuvassa on väri nimeltä Lavandula. En kyllä vieläkään tiedä pidänkö tästä väristä vai en, ja niinpä neuloinkin takakappaleen paitaan Rosemoor väristä nimeltä Imperial (sini-indigoinen sekoitus). Riittoisan oloinen lanka, takakappaleeseen meni sitä vajaat 150 g. Kastelin mokoman ja se on saunassa kuivumassa, joten siksi kuva vain mallitilkusta. Se näyttää kyllä aika pitkältä, joten pitänee ehkä vielä miettiä jatkoa. En onnistunut googlailemaan mitään kunnon kuvaakaan siitä kenenkään tekemänä joten sekään ei auta. Epätietoisuus jatkuu ainakin tovin täällä.

I also amused myself by making some swatches with my machine. The yarn in question is Luxury Tweed by Jaeger, here shown in Lavandula. I still don't know if I like the colour or not so I made the back piece of Rosemoor by another colourway called Imperial (blue-indigo mix). The piece is laid out flat in the sauna so no photos of it now. You'll have to do with the swatches. The piece seems awfully long, but then again Rosemoor seems to be a bit on the long side. I couldn't find any finished ones while googling so that didn't help either. I'll continue to be baffled here for a bit anyway.

Ihan 14 neuletta. Ei mikään kauhea määrä mutta mahtuupa joukkoon sentään erinäinen puserokin. Kaikkia tehtyjä on tullut myös pidettyä, siitä hurraata itselle, eipä tullut tehtyä niitä vain kaappiin makaamaan.

Mutta ei kaikki ole vain ruusuilla tanssimista...viime vuoden puolella ehdin myös aloittamaan neulekonekurssilla kirjoneuleliivin (lisälankaa odotellessa), keväällä tein kurssilla kirjoneuletakin (jonka kokoonompelu tyssäsi siihen että tarvitaan modausta), aloitin maitolangasta liiviä (liiviaika meni ohi) ja palmikkopaitaa. Lisäksi Rogue mokoma on vielä kesken (into loppui) ja muinoin neulekonekurssilla tehty takki vaatii kauluksen ja vetoketjun uudelleenkiinnitystä (hyh, laiska mato). Jospa saisin jotain näistä tänä vuonna valmiiksi ja pitoon? Toivossa on hyvä elää.

And what did I do last year, knitwise. Just for fun I went through all my entrys for last year and came up with:

Wow, a total number of 14 knits. Not a lot but then again, there's some sweaters there. And I've worn all I've done, some more than others but I'm happy to have made things I like and that fit me.

But all was not just fun and games...last year I also managed to start a fair-isle vest at the machine knitting class (ran out of yarn, waiting for more), and during the spring class I made a fair-isle cardi (which I got fed up since I noticed that I have to do some adjustmets for the sleeve holes), started a vest with milk yarn (it got too cold for vests) and started a cabled sweater. Darn Rogue is still unfinished (bored now) and the ancient striped cardi I made at machine knitting class needs its collar and zipper re-sewn (lazy now). Maybe I can get some of these finished by this year? Yeah, right...

Vähän kaikkea - A little bit of everything

Jäi päivittely vähän vähemmälle kun joulu iski takavasemmalta kimppuun ja piti hösätä kaikkea ja sukkiakin neuloa ja sillai. Mutta nyt on taas normaalit metkut meneillään, joten voinkin kertoa mitä tällävälin tapahtui.

My blog suffered since xmas hit me from behind and stole all my time. Had to knit socks and all. But now I'm back to normal and I might as well do an update.

Äidin sukat valmistuivat juuri sopivasti jouluaattona (lahjottiin joulupäivänä). Tässäpä sukka komeilee minun jalassani. Malli on sitä samaa vanhaa paitsi kärki on molemmissa samanlainen ja neulottu sileänä. Ei tullut kauhean kaunista mutta en jaksanut säätää (tuli kiire). Vielä voisi tehdä itselleen parin varastossa makoilevasta Jitterbugista ja sitten ohje voisi olla siinä kunnossa että sen voisi julkaistakin.

I finished my mom's socks just in time on Xmas eve (she got her present on xmas day). Here's the sock in my foot. The pattern is the same old but instead of pointed toes they're similar and made with stockinette stitch. Not a very pretty toe but I was pressed for time and didn't want to fiddle with them. I guess I might do one more pair using some Jitterbug from my stash and then the pattern should be fine for publishing.

Kirjoneulehihapaita on oikeastaan valmis. Jouduin pidentämään helman joustinosuutta kun se itsepäisesti halusi kääntyä kaksinkerroin ja kirjoneulehihan kiinnittäminen vartaloon vaati hieman vahvoja sanoja (ja juomia) mutta on nyt ommeltu. En ole vielä uskaltanut kokeilla sitä päälle sillä jos se ei ole hyvä niin en todellakaan haluaisi kokeilla hihan kiinnittämistä neljättä kertaa. Siksipä viivyttelen ja keksin muuta neulomista. Alla on näytettä Linea Rossan kirjasta nro 2 (punainen palmikkoneulepaita kauluksella). Takakappale on valmis ja etukappale aloitettu. Lankana on luumunpunainen Jaegerin Extra Fine Merino Chunky.

Fair isle sleeved pullover is pretty much done. I had to re-knit the rib edge and make it a bit longer since the first version just wanted to fold up annoyingly. Also the fair-isle sleeve required some strong words (and drink) and about three tries to get it attached to the body somewhat nicely. I haven't got the courage to try it on yet for if it does not fit I don't want to do it fourth time. So I'm stalling and knitting something else. Above is a piece of a cable pullover from Linea Rossa's second book (the red one with the big collar). I've finished the back piece and started on the front. The yarn I'm using is Jaeger's Extra Fine Merino Chunky in plum.

Hieman sukkalankaa saapui myös tänne. Itselleni päätyi näistä vain puolet, mutta kuvan ottaessani en muistanut mitkä kaikki, joten tässäpä kaikki. Omenanvihreä, sen vieressä oleva tumma, oranssi ja punainen jäivät lopulta omiin varastoihin.

A bit of sock yarn arrived here also. Not all of the above were for me but when I took the photo I did not remember what I had ordered but one of the apple greens, the dark one beside it and the orange and red remained. Rest went on.

Paluu arkeen - Back to the real life

Loma on ohi ja huomenna on paluu töihin. Sitä ennen vielä viimeinen silmäys lomafiiliksiin. Tässä on oma ranta.

The holiday is over and it's back to real world and work tomorrow. But before that one last look at holiday life. This was our beach.

Tuli snorklattua (näin mm. rauskun, kilpikonnan ja mureenan), luettua, nukuttua, laiskoteltua ja onnistuttua olemaan palamatta (en oikein ruskistu, mutta sain pisamia jalkoihin). Onnistunut loma, todella.

We snorkled (I saw for example an eagle ray, a turtle and a moray eel), read books, slept, lazed around and managed not to get a sunburn (I do not tan, but I got freckles on my feet). A superb holiday.
