Valmis! - Done!

Huonojen kuvien kuningatar täällä, iltaa. Päättelin vihdoinkin kirjoneulehihapuseron ja nyt se on sitten valmis. Mutta ne valokuvat, huh. Yritä tässä pimeydessä nyt sitten ottaa jotain järkeviä kuvia jostain mustasävyisestä neulepuserosta.

The queen of bad photos here, evening. I finally wove in the rest of the ends of the fair-isle sleeved top and now it is done. But the photos, whew. It's almost impossible to get any good ones in this darkness while the sweater in question is quite black.

Tässäpä se makaa sängyllä. Muuten hyvä, mutta linssissä on roska ja hihoista puuttuu osa. Värit tosin ovat aika hyvät.

Here it is laying on the bed. Otherwise quite good but there was dust on the lens and ends of the sleeves are missing. Colours are quite good though.

Seuraavaksi hengarissa roikkumassa. No, mitä tästäkin nyt sitten sanoisi. Värit ovat kyllä hyvät mutta onhan se hieman tuhruinen ja, no, se roikkuu.

Next I put it on the hanger. Well, what could I say. The colours are good but it's a bit blurry and, well, it hangs.

Itselaukaisimen avulla päällä. Entisen itäsaksan kuulantyöntäjä-lookia ihan selvästi. Mutta se istuu kauniisti. Jospa pitäisi keskittyä vain sukkiin näin talvella. Niitä on hieman helpompi kuvata.

Here's with the aid of the self-timer. Obviously a member of the former East-German women's shot put team. But it fits nicely. Maybe I should concentrate on socks during the winter. They're somewhat easier to photograph.

Sillanylitystä - Crossing a bridge

Katsokaa, esittelen valmiin tuotoksen. Se on aika harvinaista herkkua täällä, ainakin viimeaikoina kun joku ei oikein osaa keskittyä vain yhteen työhön kerrallaan. Mutta, kylmät säät inspiroivat ja nyt se on valmis, pieni huivi.

Lo and behold, I bring you a finished object. It is quite a rare occurence here at least lately since someone can't seem to get her mind focused on one object at a time. But, the cold weather was most ispiring and now I finished it, this small scarf.

Kuvasta ehkä huomaa että hiukset ovat päässeet hiukan venähtämään (ja niitä on enemmänkin kuin nuo pari haiventa mitkä onnistuivat pääsemään kuvaan), itse asiassa ihan tarkoituksella. Annoin niiden kasvaa hääjuttua varten, kun olipa sitten hiukan enemmän mistä tehdä kampaus mutta en sitten sitä seuraavalla kerralla käskenytkään kyniä niitä pois vaan päätin kokeilla hiusten kasvattamista. Mikä ehkä saattaa olla aika erikoinen asia ihmiselle joka oikeastaan inhoaa hiuksia. Tai en nyt varsinaisesti hiuksia vaan sitä, kun ne kutittavat kasvoja ja kaulaa. Vähän aikaa sitten olin kyllä valmis jo ottamaan käteen keittiösakset ja tekemään radikaalin leikkauksen (juurikin kaulakutinan vuoksi) mutta nyt olen päässyt jo sen vaiheen ohi. Ilmeisesti kutrini ovat venähtäneet jo sen pisteen yli. Mutta katsotaan, ainahan ne saa taas lyhyiksi ja vaihtelu virkistää jne. Eipä silti, on minulla joskus ollut oikein kunnon pitkät hiuksetkin.

You might notice from the picture that my hair has gotten a bit longer (yes, I have more of it than the two sorry strands that got into the photo) and on purpose I might add. I let them grow a bit for the whole getting married -thing for I wanted to have some material to work with but when the next appointment came I didn't ask him to cut it all away. Instead I decided to try the long hair thing. Which might be a bit surprising decision for someone who actually hates hair. Or not hair as such, more like the feeling it gives when it brushes the face or neck. Especially the neck. The itching can be a bit of a bother and at one point I was more than willing to take on the kitchen scissors and perform drastic surgery but now I'm past that point. Or maybe I should say that my hair is. It apparently has grown long enough not to stick its sharp ends into my neck. But, we'll see, there's always the option of short hair and change is good for you etc. Though, I have had a really long hair at some point in the past.

Mutta lankaa on jäljellä vielä riittävästi, eli 60 g. Tuo söi harvinaisen vähän lankaa. Nyt sitten mietin mitä teen lopusta langasta. Mietin a) kämmekkäitä/sormikkaita, b) kalorimetriä tai c) sukkia (vaikka tuo on edelleenkin liian kaunista sukkiin minun mielestä). Ideoita, ehdotuksia?

I still have plenty of yarn left, 60 g that is. That thing ate surprisingly little yarn. Now I'm thinking what to do with the rest of it. Now the choises are a) gloves/fingerless mittens, b) Calorimetry or c) socks (though I still think it's far too pretty to hide away over my feet). Ideas, suggestions, comments?

Katse eteenpäin - Moving on

Raitapaidasta tuli siis ehdottomasti pidettävä. Tässä vielä kuva sivun langanvaihtokohdista. Tein vaihtokohdat siten, että uuden värisen kerroksen jälkeen aloitin toisen kerroksen nostamalla edellisen kerroksen silmukan puikolle ja neulomalla nämä kaksi silmukkaa yhteen. Se toimi aika hyvin, kuten kuvasta näkyy. Ei nyt ihan täydellistä vielä, mutta hyvä alku.

The stripey sweater turned out definitely wearable. Here's what the side seam looks like. I tried to do jogless stripes and I succeeded quite ok. I did it so that after finishing a round with a new colour, I picked up a stitch from the previous round and knitting it together with the first stitch on the needles. Not perfect yet, but not bad either.

Ehdin eilen jo tehdä mallitilkkua. Ihastuin Oriel-pitsineuleeseen kesän Interweave Knits-lehdestä. Käsillä ei nyt kuitenkaan ole pätkävärjättyä silkkilankaa, joten ajattelin kokeilla kaksinkertaisella Knitpicksin Shimmerillä. Se toimii aika hyvin. Tässä on mallitilkku pestynä ja pingoitettuna. Onkohan tuo nyt kuitenkin hieman levotonta? Tuo on väriä Turquoise splendor, meinasin siitä Peacock Feathers -shaalia, mutta ei sen nyt välttämättä tarvitse turkoosia olla. On minulla vielä Shimmeriä kahta väriä tarpeeksi huiviin. Ehkä siitä tulee punainen tai lila-kirjava (Flower Garden tai Stained Glass).

I did a new swatch yesterday. I like the Oriel Lace Blouse from IK Summer and since I don't have any variegated silk yarn on hand I started thinking what else I could use and I tried Knitpicks Shimmer doubled. It worked quite well, above is the swatch washed and pinned. Although...is that a bit too restless? The colourway is Turquoise Splendor and I was thinking of making a Peacock Feathers Shawl out of it but who says it has to be blue? I have enough red or violet to make it too (Flower Garden and Stained Glass).

C'est fini!

Raitapaita on valmis, vihdoinkin! Tein kauluksen pariin otteeseen, mutta nyt se on aika hyvä. Päättelin reunan vaan aika löysästi, pitää katso mitä sille käytössä tapahtuu, eli tarvitseeko tiukennusta vai ei. Ihme että tästä tuli näinkin mukava, eihän minulla mitään ohjetta ollut, neuloin vaan. Ylösalaisin tehty raglanpaita tämä.

The stripey sweater is finished, at last! I made the collar a couple of times but now it's quite good. I did the bind off quite loosely, so I'll have to see how it behaves meaning I might have to tighten it a bit at some point. I'm surprised this turned out so nice since I didn't have any pattern, just knitted it. A top-down raglan it is.

Ja istuu se takaakin. Olisin kyllä voinut kiskoa sen hieman paremmin tuolta alhaalta, enpä huomannut. Ja joo, minulla on leveä selkä.

And the back fits too. I could have straightened it a bit down in the middle but I didn't notice it. And yes, I do have a very wide back.

Asiasta viidenteen...sain hämmästyksekseni Vogue Knittingin vain pari viikkoa tilaamisen jälkeen. Olin jo varautunut odotukseen ja valitusmailien lähettämiseen muiden ihmisten kokemusten perusteella mutta näin se vain tuli, hyvin. Olisin kyllä voinut jättää sen 25-vuotisjuhlanumeron väliinkin, siinä kun ei oikein ollut mitään kauhean mielenkiintoista. Meinasin myydä lehden, mutta kissa oksensi sen päälle, joten nähtävästi pidän sen.

And on to another matter...to my surprice I received Vogue Knitting magazine promptly about two weeks after I ordered it. I had prepared myself for a long wait and some email-sending based on other people's experience but there it came. I could have happily skipped the 25-year anniversary issue, it didn't have much to interest me. I was planning on selling the issue but the cat threw up on it, so I guess I'm keeping it.

Jotain valmista - Something finished

Ariann on nyt sitten valmis. Päättelin tänään pari unohtunutta langanpäätä ja kiinnitin napit. Inhoan nappien ompelua oikeastaan enemmän kuin vetoketjun ompelua. Näistä neljästäkin piti kiinnittää kaksi uudelleen kun ne tulivat vahingossa ensin väärään paikkaan.


Ariann is finally finished. I did away with a couple of forgotten yarn ends and attached the buttons. I hate sewing in buttons more than I do attaching the zipper. From these four I had to reattach two since I got them in the wrong place first time around.

Mitäpä tästä sanoisi...istuu hyvin eikä ole liian löysä, mutta siitä ne ongelmat sitten alkavat. Kiinnitys nimittäin tursahtelee ikävästi. Sellainen "kohta se nappi lentää"-look. Ei mitenkään kauhean mairitteleva, minusta. Pitäisköhän ommella tuo nappilista kiinni, vai mitä sitä tekisi? Tietysti tuo voi käytössä löystyäkin...lanka on Novitan Oliviaa (70% bambua ja 30% keinokuitua).

What to say...it fits quite well and is not too big but that's the trouble. The button-band does not behave nicely, as you can see. It has that "soon it's gonna fly off"-look to it. Not very becoming, I think. But what to do? I guess I could always sew the button band closed partly, for I don't think I'll be wearing this open that much anyway. Or I could wait and see if the cardi stretches with use. The yarn is Novita Olivia (70% bamboo, 30% plastic).

Hmph

Ei vieläkään toimivaa tietokonetta kotona. Huomenna raahaan mokoman huoltoon, toivottavasti korjaus onnistuu. Jos ei, niin emolevy pitää lähettää jonnekin ja se kestää. *huokaus*

Mutta, olen ollut tuottelias. Ariann on valmis (no, napit puuttuu) ja olen aloittanut sockapalooza-sukatkin. Malli on hyvin yksinkertainen mutta tulos on kiva. Tähän tulisi kuva jos olisi mahdollista. Pitäisiköhän katsastaa se mobiiliblogaus-mahdollisuus tms? Mutta meneillään on toinen sukka, ensimmäinen odottaa inspiraatiota kärjestä. Lankana on Jitterbug Velvet Olive. Kaunista lankaa, toivottavasti vain maltan luopua sukista kun on sen aika.

Still no computer at home. Tomorrow I'll lug the thing to the service guys, hopefully they'll be able to fix it. If not, the motherboard has to take a trip somewhere and I'm told that'll take time. *sigh*

Anyway, I've been busy. Ariann is finished (still in need of buttons though) and I've started my sockapalooza socks. They are very simple but cute and this is where I would insert a photo if I had ways to do it. Maybe I should take a look at the mobile blogging thing or something. But I'm on my second sock, the first one is waiting for me to be inspired about the toe-part. I'm using Jitterbug in Velvet Olive. It's lovely yarn, I hope I'll be able to part with the socks when the time comes.

Puikot: Addi ja Knitpicks 2mm

Silmukointi onnistui nyt paremmin kuin viime kerralla, tosin langan silppuuntumiselta en nytkään välttynyt. Se on vaan niin pehmeää että ei kestä moista vaan aina joku säie nirhautuu poikki. Toivottavasti kestävät käyttöä vähän paremmin. Lankaa on mukava neuloa mutta en mitään kauheita kicksejä siitä saanut, että todennäköisesti jää ainoaksi Step-sukaksi jollei saksalainen sukkalankainsinööri ole tylsällä päällä ja tee tuosta yksiväristä vaihtoehtoa.

Ohje oli mukava ja helppo, sopii hyvin raitalangalle. Mutta sukista tuli hieman eri kokoiset. Ensimmäisestä kuvasta ehkä näkee, että oikean jalan varpaiden kohdalla on tummempaa kuin toisessa. Luulenpa että se johtuu siitä että vaihdoin puikkoja toiseen sukkaan, Addeista Knitpicksiin. Meillä ei ole työntömittaa kotona, mutta ne tuntuvat sormiin ohuemmilta. Mutta mukavan napakat sukat tuli, tykkään.

Grafting the toe went a bit better this time but still the yarn splitting happened. It is just so soft that it is not up to that and the threads break. I hope it stands the wear a bit better. The yarn is nice to knit but I didn't get any particular kicks out of it so this will probably be my first and last Step experience unless the German knit-yarn engineer decides to get boring and bring out a solid version.

Pattern was nice and easy and suitable for self-striping yarn. But the second sock is smaller than the first one. I think the reason is that I changed the needles in the second one, from Addi's to Knitpicks. And you can see in the first photo that the one on the right has darker stuff on the toes than the left one. The one on the right was the first one. I don't have a suitable measuring device at home but the Knitpicks ones do feel smaller than the Addi's. But all in all nice and tight socks. Me like.
