Mutta, tänään oli Helsingin neuletapaaminen ja meitä oli hieman harvalukuinen joukko (kuusi kappaletta). Eksyivätkö kanssaneulojat Sokoksen 3+1 päiville eivätkä löytäneet ilman kompassia viidenteen kerrokseen vai riehuuko neulojien joukossa harvinainen lankarutto vai oliko kyseessä vain katoaminen autuaammille lankamaille vai mikä. Mutta me keskustelimme innokkaasti langoista, maailmankaikkeudesta ja kaikesta.

I'm following on Nanna's footsteps, so the title today is another song lyric. It's handy when you don't want to think of a proper title, there's plenty of song lyrics around. But, today was the Helsinki meet and there were a bit few of us (six to be exact). Were the fellow knitters lost on the department store's sale and didn't find their way tot the fifth floor without a compass or is there a rare yarn plague loose amongst the knitter population or were they frolicking where the yarn is greener or what? Koska olin typerä enkä ajatellut tulevaisuutta, neuloin torstaina Mystery Shawl 2:n ensimmäisen vinkin. Lankana on taas ihanan rasvainen pätkävärjätty Wiron Willa, tällä kertaa sini/lilasävyisenä. Vietettyäni keskiviikkona yli tunnin siirtämällä lähes kolmensadan gramman vyyhtiä ohutta lankaa kerälle kirosin hartaasti ja manasin vyyhdit alimpaan helvetin syöveriin (ollapa hieman apuvälineitä). Because I was stupid and didn't think of the future, I knitted the first clue of Mystery Shawl 2 on Wednesday. The yarn is again lovely greasy and variegated Estonian wool this time in blue/lilac colourway. After spending more than an hour transforming a hank into a ball I cursed profusely and wished all hanks to have an unpleasant existence in the deepest pits of hell (oh, to have some equipment). My nerves required something soothing so I dismissed all thoughts of the future and knitted the first clue. And it was good and fun and calmness covered the face of the knitter's mind.

But what had future to do with all this knitting? Well, after I finished the first clue I realized that I didn't have anything easy to knit at our knit meet today. I couldn't take Eris with me because it is still in the annoying collar phase. Annoying mostly because the cotton based yarn does not have any stretch so the cable turns can require a bit of force. And another thing is that I can't really concentrate on anything else than knitting at this stage because then I'll miss my place in the pattern. But I have made some progress with it as you can see. I've almost finished one side of the collar.

Paniikki iski siis tänään aamulla ja kaivoin kätköistäni San Franciscon matkalla ostamani Artfibersin Hana-silkkilangan (ugh, inhoan heidän uusia sivujaan). Huivia siitä haikailen, ohutta ja ihanaa, sellaista jota voi pitää vaikka nahkatakin kanssa. Pakkasin siis langan ja pari mallikuviokirjaa mukaan. Tässä on tulos. Kokeilin kolmea erilaista mallia, ja totesin että liian pitsinen kuvio ei toimi tämän langan kanssa. Mallissa pitää olla sileää osuutta että silkkilangan kiilto ja värit pääsevät oikeuksiinsa. Ylimpänä on kalanruotokuviota, josta sinänsä pidin, mutta huiviin se ei oikein käy koska reunat käpristyvät sisäänpäin. Eikä se sovi oikeastaan tähän lankaan koska kiilto hämää silmää ja pinta voisi olla yhtä hyvin sileää. Taidan päätyä alimpaan mallikuvioon, siitä tulee sentään hauskan kiemurainen reuna vaikka huivissa onkin sitten oikea ja nurja puoli. Mutta kai se täytyy kärsiä, jos haluan sileää pintaa langan ominaisuuksien esilletuomiseen. Ihanaa lankaa neuloa kyllä.

Mutta kai se täytyy kärsiä, jos haluan sileää pintaa langan ominaisuuksien esilletuomiseen. Ihanaa lankaa neuloa kyllä.
The panic struck this morning and then I remembered the Artfibers Hana (ugh, I do so hate their new website). I bought while in San Francisco. I'm wishing for a scarf, light, airy and delicious, something to wear with my leather jacket. So I packed the yarn and a couple of pattern books with me. Here is the result. I tried three different patterns and I discovered that anything too lacy doesn't work with this yarn. The pattern should have some stockinette stitch parts to bring out the shine and colour of the yarn. The top one is herringbone pattern which I kind of like in itself though it does not work with this one. No good for a scarf because the edges curl inward. And the shine of the yarn distracts the eye and the whole thing could wery well be just stockinette stitch, there would be no difference. I think I'll end up with the first one because it will give the scarf a nice wavy edge even though the scarf will have a right and a wrong side. But I guess that is the price I'll have to pay if I want to have stockinette stitch parts in it at all. The yarn is lovely to knit though.

Eris, alku - Eris, the beginning
Aloitin vihdoinkin jotain uutta, nimittäin Eris neuletakkia syntymäpäivälahjaksi. Kyseisen ystävän syntymäpäivät tosin olivat jo toukokuussa, mutta kun en oikein keksinyt mitä tehdä. Tässä tämän päivän tuotos, olisiko suunnilleen neljäsosa kauluksesta? Kuvan ottamisen jälkeen olen neulonut hieman lisää. Ei tuota nyt niin vaikea ole tehdä, mutta hidasta se on kun koko ajan pitää konsultoida listasta mitä mikäkin outo merkki tarkoittaa. Puuvillasekoitelangasta neulottuna kauluksesta tulee aika tanakka, mutta eikös se ole vaan hyvä? Sehän venähtää käytössä kuitenkin (luulen minä).
I finally started something new, Eris cardigan as a birthday present. Though the birthday in question was in May but I didn't know what to knit. Here is today's accomplishment, maybe 1/4 of the collar? I have knitted a bit more since that photo was taken. It is not so difficult to knit but a bit slow because I have to check all the time what the different cable crossing signs mean. The collar will be quite sturdy one since I'm using cotton-based yarn but isn't that a good thing? I mean it'll probably get bigger with wear.

In addition to new knits something should be done with the old ones also. At least with one old one, Ronnie that is. I didn't notice with all the finishing frenzy that the back piece was more loosely knit than the front (or then I just chose to ignore it) and now that I've worn it a couple of times the back side flops unflatteringly and the side seams have creeped up towards the front. What misery, now I have to take the darn thing apart again and knit the back piece tighter. Gah!

Pieniä aarteita - Small treasures
Eilinen balettiesitys oli vaikuttava. Musiikki, laulajat ja tanssijat toimivat hyvin yhdessä ja kokonaisuus oli harmoninen. Pidin kyllä! Kyseessä oli siis Les Enfants Terribles, Jean Cocteaun työhön perustuva musiikki- ja tanssiesitys. Musiikkipuolesta vastasi Philip Glass.

The ballet yesterday was impressive. The music, singers and dancers worked well together and the whole performance was quite harmonious. I liked it a lot. The piece in question was Les Enfants Terribles, a dance-opera performance based on a work by Jean Cocteau. The music was composed by Philip Glass.

Huomasin Annen blogista että hän oli onnistunut saamaan käsiinsä kauan etsimänsä kirjan. Kuva näytti kovin tutulta, huomasin että minullahan on mokoma kirja, eli Susanna Lewisin Knitting Lace (ihkaensimmäinen blogientry). Ostin sen Helsingistä divarista ja maksoin muistaakseni peräti 10€ siitä. Katsoin huvikseni mitä Amazon siitä pyytää ja juu-uh, minulla on ilmeisesti kirjaharvinaisuus. Jännää.

I noticed in Anne's blog that she had managed to find a book she has been looking for for quite some time. The picture looked very familiar and I notice that I have that same book. And the book in question is Knitting Lace by Susanna Lewis (my very first blog entry). I bought it from some used books shop in Helsinki and I think I paid something like 10 € for it. I was curious and found out what Amazon is asking for it and yeah, it seems I've managed to find something a bit rare. Woo.

Siivousinnostusta - Cleaning frenzy
Lankatietoisuuteni on jo aika hyvällä mallilla, olen siivonnut lankakätköjä ja kirjannut ylös mitä löytyi, mikä on sen koostumus, suositeltava tiheys ja puikkokoko, kuinka paljon sitä löytyi ja kuinka riittoisaa se on. Luulen että erinäiset epävarmat tapaukset saavat vielä marinoitua tovin, mutta taas löytyi lankaa myytäväksi asti.

I've been cleaning out my yarn stash and written down what I have found, what it is made of, the recommended gauge and needle size, how much I found it and what is its yardage. I think that I'll leave some undecided yarns to marinate in my stash for a bit but I still have found something I'm willing to part with. And, as I mentioned before, if one of you "furrin" readers wish to get your hands into some of them, just ask and suggest a trade (or I can suggest something too).

Mohairien tapaan karvaa aika runsaasti mutta pinnasta tulee kaunis ja ilmava. Tätä neulotaan 6mm:n puikoilla ja saadaan 13 silmukkaa ja 18 kerrosta 10cm:n neliölle. Yhdellä 50g:n kerällä lankaa on 100m. Myytävänä on kolme kerää, siitähän saa vaikka Fifin. Kolmelle kerälle hintaa olisi 5€.

Sunnuntai - Sunday
Minä kärsin tylsän otsikon syndroomasta. En nyt keksi muuta sunnuntaiaiheista lauluakaan kuin "Sunday Bloody Sunday" eikä se nyt oikein sovi kun tämä sunnuntai oli ihan mukava. Käytiin katsomassa kivaa asuntoa, manganäyttelyä ja Kabukissa syömässä. Mikä sen parempaa voisi olla?

I'm suffering from boring title syndrome. I can't even think of a Sunday-themed song title other than "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and that doesn't fit because this Sunday was quite nice. We went to see a nice flat, visited a manga exhibition and went to eat in Kabuki (japanese restaurant). What could be better?

Lupasin kuvia Mystery Shawlista, joka on saanut uuden nimen, Renee's Mystery Diamonds. Kas tässä. Värit ovat aika nätit, perspektiivi vaan heittää tällä kertaa, sillä on se kolmio, on. Mittaa on peräti 81 cm pystysuunnassa ja 172 leveimmästä kohdasta. Ihan mukavan kokoinen huivi siis. Tykkään.

Edit: Huomasin että strategiset tiedot puuttuvat, eli huivi on neulottu fingering weight-taulukon mukaan ja puikoilla 4.5 mm.
Now that I've found out that the weird wc-door behaviour of men (ok, not all men do this but still) is universal and AnneV has given me more information than I needed to know of the hand-washing habits of local women I'll try to distract me and you by talking about knitting. I promised you a better photo of the Mystery Shawl, which has acquired a better name, Renee's Mystery Diamonds. Here you are then. The colours are quite good but never mind the perspective. The shawl is 81 cms tall and 172 cm wide. So quite a nice sized shawl. Me like.
Edit: I noticed that I forgot some information. The shawl is knitted using the fingering weigth charts and 4.5 mm needles.

Toinen oikealta löytyi kotoa kätköistä ja se vaatimalla vaati kauniin värisiä kavereita joten pakkohan siihen oli suostua. Siis mukaan tarttui luumunpunaista, petroolinsinistä (ei ole luonnossa ihan noin sinistä, enemmän vihreää) ja limenvihreää lankaa. Taidan päästä kokeilemaan satunnaisraitageneraattoria (eivätkö suomenkielen yhdyssanat ole ihania?).

Neither was the weekend yarnless. I went to a market hall in Helsinki on Saturday and looked at all the wonderful things there (food and stuff, I love the place) and yarn also. These I got - Tessa by On Line. The second on the right was the one I had at home and it demanded that I should buy some nice-coloured pals for it so I had to agree. I got plum, petrol blue (not that blue in reality, more greenish) and lime green. I guess I get to try the random stripe generator.

Tämän mielenilmauksen aiheutti yritykseni kuvata Mystery Shawlia. Siis, meillä on kaksi digikameraa, Canoneita molemmat. Ei siis kuvia shaalista, yritän ottaa viikonloppuna valoisaan aikaan jotain kuvia. Mutta hieno siitä tuli, vaikka itse sanonkin.

This opinion was the result of me trying to photograph the finished mystery shawl. So, we have two digital cameras, both Canon. The other one is a small (Ixus V3) and the other on is a so called "proper" camera (S2 IS) and neither can produce red colours to my satisfaction when indoors and I'm too lazy to tinker with a picture enhancer software. So no pictures of the shawl today I'll try to take some pictures during the weekend when it's light outside. But the shawl turned out nice even though I say so myself.

En vain ihan saa tuohon varatusta langasta esille haluttua tiheyttä (Bergere de Francen Cotonature) mutta eiköhän se sieltä tule kun vaan tarpeeksi yrittää. Ei kait se haittaa jos se ei ihan ole kohdallaan, mitä?
Ja Floricat ovat löytäneet ottajansa mutta Virolaista villaa olisi vielä tarjolla. Osalle tummanpunaista olisi ehkä tiedossa myös koti joten jos joku väreistä kiinnostaa niin yhteyttä vaan.

I should start Eris but I'm having trouble getting the required gauge from the yarn I have reserved for this purpose (Cotonature by Bergere de France). But I'm going to persevere. I'm confident that I'll get there on the end.

Loppuun hieman työaiheista ihmettelyä kun kävin taas tänään pitkästa aikaa töissä ja huomasin taas asian. Siis, miksi ihmeessä miesten pitää jättää vessan ovi sepposen selälleen kun he sieltä poistuvat? At the end I'd like to wonder about something that I've noticed at work, now that I spent a day there for a change. So, why do men have to leave the bathroom door wide open when they leave? Is it something that "men do" and what women can't understand or why is it so difficult to close the door? And is it only Finnish thing or does this happen around the world too?

Ensimmäisenä vuorossa Wanhaa Kunnon Novita Floricaa (klikkaa suuremmaksi). Sitä on tarjolla peräti kuutta väriä. Kuvassa näkyviä tumman harmaata, ruskeaa, vaaleanharmaata, vaaleanruskeaa ja kanervanväristä on vain yksi kerä/väri (eli siis 50g/väri). Lisäksi on erinäinen määrä luonnonvalkoista (270g) . Erinäinen määrä siksi, koska luonnonvalkoinen haki itseään aloitetun neuleen muodossa. Purin sen sitten pois kaappeja kaunistamasta ja lanka on kasteltu ja ihan uudenveroista. Myisin mielelläni koko määrän pois samalla kertaa, joskin jos on hirveä hätä (ja hyvät perustelut) voin myös luopua yksittäisistä kappaleista. Hintaa koko komeudelle vaikka 8€.

Seuraavana on kasa Virolaisia villalankoja joita ostelin taannoin toiveikkaana Tallinnasta. Unelmissa kajasti ihastuttavan upea kirjoneulepaita, kenties jotain Kuviot silmukoiksi-kirjasta. Aloitettuani innolla totesin että minusta ei ole moiseen näpertelemiseen enkä ole edes varma pidänkö kirjoneulepaidoista (itseni päällä siis). Tästä syystä suurin osa langoista on jo valmiina kerillä. Kyseessä on siis 100% villalanka (huopuvaa), Elotroin Liisu. Puikkosuositus on 3-3.5mm. Lanka on aika tavalla Florican paksuista mutta hieman rasvaisemman tuntuista. Määrät ja värit ovat seuraavat:

Ja vähän loppukommentteja. Langat sijaitsevat pääkaupunkiseudulla mutta olen toki valmis postittelemaankin niitä jos tarve vaatii. Toki perin sitten postikulut hinnan päälle mutta yritän tehdä mahdollisimman littanan paketin. Maksu rahassa tai materiassa. Olen siis avoin vaihtokaupalle, vaikka en nyt välttämättä haluaisi lankaa langasta. Mutta lehtiä, kirjoja jne. kannattaa tarjota. Ja langathan ovat sijainneet kissan taloudessa. Vaikka ko. otus ei mitään orgioita langoissani olekaan järjestänyt, mahdollisen vastaanottajan kannattaa ottaa asia kuitenkin huomioon. Mutta onpa kyseessä sentään savuton talous.

Ja taas - Yet again
Täällä sitä taas ollaan, sairaslomalla. Johan minä ehdin töissä olla peräti neljä päivää...sehän nyt oli jo ylellistä. Sunnuntaiaamuna heräsin kauheaan kurkkukipuun eikä päivä siitä mitenkään parantunut. Kehitellessäni mielessäni parasta nenänpoistotapaa (puutarhasakset ehkä) sain kuitenkin neulottua Mystery Shawlin reunaa. Nyt siitä saa jo jonkinnäköisen kuvan kun olen ohittanut keskikohdan. Luulin että reuna näyttäisi hassulta kun siinä on eri värejä (se alkaa lilalla) mutta eipäs se niin hullummalta näytäkään. Ihan kiva itse asiassa. Enää alle puolet reunasta jäljellä.
Here I am again, at home, sick. I managed to be at work all of four days...that's quite luxurious. On Sunday morning I woke up with a terribly sore throat and the day didn't get any better. While I was thinking of a best way to perform a nosectomy (maybe with garden shears) I did manage to knit a bit on the edge of the Mystery Shawl. I got past the middle point so now I can post a picture. I thought it'd look funny that the edge would be of different colour (it starts with violet) but it doesn't look at all bad, quite nice in fact. Now I have less than half of the edge left.

Unettomuutta - Insomnia
Sitä sattuu ja tapahtuu, unettomuutta siis, välillä syystä ja välillä syyttä. Mutta nyt kun kerran olen hereillä, niin mitäpä sitä neuloja muuta tekisi kuin päivittäisi blogiaan. Huono olenkin siinä viime päivinä ollut, mutta kun ei ole oikein mitään kerrottavaa ollut. Neulomaan en ole kauheasti ehtinyt kun on pitänyt ottaa hiukan takaisin kotona vietettyjä sairaspäiviä ja hörveltää ympäriinsä. Lisäksi olen yrittänyt toipua töihinpaluujärkytyksestäni.

I've been bad with it, I know, but I haven't had much to tell. I haven't knitted that much because I've been trying to catch up with lost time (due to sick leave) and have been running around. Also I have been trying to get over the back-to-work -shock.

Mystery Shawl on sitten valmis. Tai no, valmius on suhteellinen käsite. Tässä tapauksessa todella suhteellinen. Eli olen tehnyt annetut vinkit mutta sitten päätin neuloa vielä reunuksen huiviin. Luin kommentteja että se rullautuu pahasti ja että sitä pitäisi sitten pingoitella ahkerasti. Kun pingoitusmahdollisuudet ovat aika rajalliset (karvaisen hännällisen otuksen vuoksi) niin sain kuningasajatuksen reunasta. Aikani tutkittuani Knitting on the Edge-kirjaa päätin kuitenkin tehdä reunuksen Yarn Harlotin Snowdrop Shawlin ohjeesta. Päätökseeni vaikuttivat a) jotkut muutkin olivat tehneet sen ja b) siitä oli kaaviokuva. Olen sitten parina iltana neuloskellut reunaa ja sehän kestää. Kerroksia reunaan tulee kaksinverroin reunasilmukoiden määrä, joka on jotain 160 tienoilla/sivu. Eli paljon. Enkä ole kauhean varma onko järkevää tehdä liukuvärjättyyn huiviin reunusta samasta langasta. Värivyöhykkeet ovat sitten eri suunnissa, nääs. Mutta esittelen siitä kuvaa jahka olen saanut reunusta vähän enemmän valmiiksi niin voitte tekin sitten ottaa kantaa hankkeen järkevyyskeskusteluun.

I've finished Mystery Shawl. Or, actually finishing as a term is relative. In this case really so. Meaning I've done the given clues but then I decided to knit an edging to it. I've read from the comments that without one it curls quite a bit and that one should block the heck out of it. But since my blocking capabilities are a bit limited (due to a hairy creature with a tail) I got the bright idea of a knitted edge. After a careful perusal of the book Knitting on the Edge I, however, decided to make the edge from Yarn Harlot's Snowdrop Shawl. The facts that influenced my decision were a) someone else has done it too and b) it was charted. So these past couple of knights I've knitted the edge and that takes a while. The amount of rows on the edging is twice the amount of stitches on the edge and that is around 160/side. So a lot. And I'm not too sure how sensible it is to knit an edge to a variegated scarf using the same yarn. Because the edge will be variegated too but differently. But I'll show you a picture after I've knitted the edge a bit so that you can comment on the issue of sensibility too.

Mutta koska sukkapuikoista ei ole mitään hyötyä ilman sukkalankaa, tarttui sitäkin sitten kerä mukaan. Juu, olenhan minä ollut sitä mieltä että en osta itseraidoittuvia sukkalankoja vähään aikaan, mutta se oli kauan aikaa sitten se. Sitäpaitsi kyseessä on On Linen supersocke cotton, niin ei voinut jättää väliin. Puuvillaa ja villaa, sitä pitää kokeilla! Kuvassa lanka komeilee ruusupuupuikkojen kanssa (2.5 ja 3.5mm)

Today I just happened to be near Hakaniemen tori and since I've read from a blog that they sell rosewood needles there, I had to go and get some. But since dpns are no use without some sock yarn, I had to get that too. Yeah, I know I said earlier that I won't be buying self-striping sock yarns for a while but that was a long time ago. Besides, this is On Line supersocke cotton so I had to get it. Cotton and wool, must try that! Here it lounges with the rosewood dpns (2.5 and 3.5mms).

En nyt tiedä oliko se ihan viisasta, taisi tulla vähän kärkevän oloinen kommentti ja joku varmaan vetää Nannan sanoja mukaillen vihreän palkokasvin siemenen sieraimeensa, mutta mua vaan suomeksi sanottuna nyppi. Mystery Shawl
Nyt kun olen päässyt (kait) eroon bakteereista ja kärsittävänä on vain lääkkeen sivuvaikutukset (se aiheutti nilkan uudelleennyrjähtämisen, ikävän selkäkivun noin päiväksi ja alimman kylkiluun kipeytymisen) niin neulominenkin sujuu taas. Printterinpuutteen ratkaisin ihan vanhanaikaisesti kynällä ja paperilla ja niinpä olenkin edennyt jo vihjeeseen neljä asti. Huivi on siinä ah, niin ihastuttavassa, vaiheessa "möykky" koska on keskeltä aloitettavaa mallia joten esittelenkin tässä lähinnä langan meheviä värejä. Tosin punainen väri näyttää aina vääristyvän enemmän tai vähemmän kuvissa, joten langan luonnollinen väri on hieman enemmän lilasävyinen. En yleensä oikein pidä pätkävärjätyistä langoista, mutta tämän värit vaihtuvat niin hitaasti että se näyttää oikein mukavalta.
Now that I've managed to get rid of (I hope) the bacteria and all that I have to suffer are the side-effects of the drug (it re-sprained my ankle, caused a not-so-nice back pain for about a day and makes one of my lower ribs to ache) I've gone back to knitting. The lack of printer I handled with old-fashioned ways, namely pen and paper, and I've gone whizzing by into clue number four. The shawl is in that lovely "lumpy" stage - since it was started from top middle - so mainly I'm just trying to show the lovely colours of the yarn. Although red seems to more or less always come out a bit wrong the natural shade of the yarn is more into violet than is shown here. I do not normally care much for variegated yarns but the colours in this one blend together quite nicely and the colour stretches are quite long so I think it works pretty well here.

Hiiri - Mouse
Kyllä, talossa oli tänään hiiri. Sinänsä siinä ei ole mitään outoa ja ihmeellistä, hiirethän ovat tehneet sitä jo vuosituhansia, pyrkineet taloihin siis. Mutta kun kyseessä on kerrostaloasunto, vaikkakin ensimmäisen kerroksen, niin se tekee asiasta jo hieman oudomman. Kyseisessä ensimmäisen kerroksen asunnossamme on parveke, noin metrin verran maatason yläpuolella ja edusta on täynnä valtavia ruusupuskia. Ilmeisesti hiiret siis kiipeävät ruusupensaita pitkin.

Yes, there was a mouse in the house. That in itself is nothing strange or extraordinary, mice have been doing that for thousands of years, getting into houses that is. But when you are living in an apartment, although one in the ground floor, it does make things a bit more strange. The flat in question, our home, has a balcony, the bottom of which is about a meter above the ground and the area in front of it is filled with enormous rose-bushes. Apparently mice climb roses.

Mutta kuinka ruokakuntaan kuulumaton vierailija sitten paljastui? No, yksinkertaista, meillä on kissa. Kun tulin aamuiselta hammaspesultani takaisin makuuhuoneeseen niin kyseinen kissa nuuski sängyn vieressä olevaa kirjakasaa (olemme kirjahyllyllisesti rajoittuneita) viikset väpättäen. Niinpä kiinnostuin asiasta minäkin ja aikamme tongittuamme vieralainen paljastui. Siinä sitten tovin tuijoteltuamme hiirtä mietimme että mitäs asialle tehdään. Kissa ehdotti syömistä, mutta koska olin jo syönyt, kieltäydyin. When I got back to the bedroom after my morning toothbrushing the cat in question was sniffing enthusiastically at the pile of books (we are book-casely challenged) by the bed. So I got interested too and after we had digged around a bit the guest was revealed. After we had stared at it a bit we started thinking what we could do about the situation. The cat suggested eating it but since I wasn't feeling particularly peckish at the moment I declined. I suggested instead that we'd remove the visitor from the household and after the suggestion failed to reach unanimous approval I excercised my dictatorial rights and removed the objecting cat from the room. Then I managed to catch the visitor inside an empty whisky container (hobbies can be useful in many ways) and I took it outside. Unfortunately the story does not have a happy ending. The mouse died. Apparently the cat had managed to slap it a bit and the shock probably killed the poor thing.

Yes, there was a mouse in the house. That in itself is nothing strange or extraordinary, mice have been doing that for thousands of years, getting into houses that is. But when you are living in an apartment, although one in the ground floor, it does make things a bit more strange. The flat in question, our home, has a balcony, the bottom of which is about a meter above the ground and the area in front of it is filled with enormous rose-bushes. Apparently mice climb roses.

Nyt kun matkat on matkottu, taudit melkein kärsitty (toivottavasti) ja aivot tuntuvat pysyvän vähän paremmin päässä, niin on hyvä aika tarkastella mitä välillä on tapahtunut.
Ensinnäkin blogini on saavuttanut kunniakkaan yhden vuoden iän. JEE, hyvä minä! Onnea blogille! Tuon ensimmäisen postauksen kunniakas vuosipäivä saavutettiin jo 4.9, mutta siinä kuumehuuruisessa itsesäälissä kieriskelyssä asia jotenkin ihan unohtui. Mutta näin nyt kuitenkin kävi, jo vuosi takana. Ja kun mietin kuinka paljon meitä suomalaisia neulebloggaajia silloin oli, taisi olla alle 10, ja vertaa nykyistä määrää (neuleblogit-sivulla taitaa nyt olla 115 jos oikein laskin) niin täytyy sanoa että kehitys on ollut huima. Mistä tulikin mieleeni, että osaako joku suositella jotain hyvää bloginlukuohjelmaa? En ole oikein blogilistaan tyytyväinen kun se on aika hidas eivätkä kaikki taida siellä kuitenkaan olla.

Now that the trips have been tripped, diseases almost suffered (hopefully) and my brain seems to want to spend more time at its normal location again, I think it's time to take a look at what's been going on.
First, my blog has reached an honourable age of one year. YEAH, good me! Congrats to the blog! The anniversary of the first posting was reached already on September 4th, but at that stage of wallowing in fever-induced self-pity I somehow forgot about it. But it happened anyway, more than a year has passed already. And as I think how much there was of us Finnish knit-bloggers then, I think less than ten, and compare how much there are now (at the Finnish knit-bloggers page there are 115 blogs if I counted correctly) I have to say that the development has been wild.

Seuraavaksi, Salainen ystäväni, joka on lähetellyt minulle kivoja lahjoja, on paljastunut. Kyseessä oli Maureen Englannista. Kiitoksia Maureenille! Itse en vielä ole paljastanut henkilöllisyyttäni omalle lahjomisen kohteelle koska en ole vielä saanut mitään tietoa viimeisimmän lahjan perillemenosta. Mutta jos ei mitään kuulu niin teen sen jokatapauksessa pikapuoliin.
Ja kun SP5-kierros on nyt ohi, niin nythän sitä voi kertoa että "miltä nyt tuntuu?". No hyvältä. Pidin tästä, vaikka se vaatikin hieman enemmän paneutumista kuin esim. tuo pohjoismainen salainen ystävä-vaihto. Kun lahjonnan kohteena on vain yksi ihminen, jolla on blogi, niin on helpompaa yrittää keksiä sellaisia lahjoja joista arvaa toisen pitävän. Blogissa ihmisestä saa kuitenkin jonkinlaisen käsityksen, ainakin lanka- ja neuletyylimausta, jos ei muusta. Tosin osanottajamäärät ovat aivan eri luokkaa, joten ikäviä tapauksiakin sattuu varmasti paljon enemmän. Mutta voin hyvin ajatella osallistuvani uudestaan moiseen, joskaan en nyt taida ihan heti, juuri tuon pohjoismaisen systeemin vuoksi. Yksi kerrallaan riittää minulle hyvin, sitäpaitsi sp6:n ilmoittautumisaika on jo ummessa :-)

Next, my Secret Pal, that has sent me some nice gifts, has revealed her true identity. She is Maureen from the UK. Thanks, Maureen! I have not yet revealed my identity to the person I've been spoiling because I haven't had any information whether my last gift received its target or not. But, if I do not hear anything soon I'll do it anyway.
And now that the SP5 round is over, I feel like I can answer that age-old question "how does it feel now?". Well, it feels pretty good actually. I liked it, even though it did require a bit more work than, say, the Nordic Secret Friend-project. When you are sending gifts to just one person, with a blog, it is easier to think of gifts you'd think the other one would like. By reading someone's blog you can get some kind of idea about the person, at least about their yarn and knitting pattern preferences. Though the participant number is really high, so I guess there are more of the unpleasant cases also. But I could easily see myself taking part in another Secret Pal round, though not right away, mostly because of the forementioned Nordic thing. One at a time is good for me and besides the SP6 participation deadline is closed anyway :-)

Ja jotta homma ei menisi ihan jorinaksi, niin loppuun se pakollinen neulekuva (klikkaamalla isommaksi). Tällä kertaa kyseessä on Mystery Shawl, josta taisin jotain jossain vaiheessa mainitakin. Olen tekemässä kakkosvihjettä, loppusuoralla. En oikein onnistunut saamaan hyvää kuvaa tekeleestä kun lanka on aika tummassa vaiheessa. Lanka on samanlaista Tallinnan-villaa, mitä Marjut käytti omassaan. Ehkä jopa saman väristä, aika lähelle ainakin. Minun lankani on kuitenkin ostettu jo kaaaauan aikaa sitten, se on vain marinoitunut odottamassa parempia aikoja. Ehkä tämä on sitten sellainen. Ainoa ongelmani on vain, että kohta vihje 2 on tehty eikä kotona ole printteriä, joten en voi edetä vihjeeseen 3. Tai sitten pitää neuloa vaihteeks tietokoneen ääressä.

To show that I'm not just babbling here, here's the obligatory knit-picture of today. My Mystery Shawl, which I believe I mentioned earlier. I'm making the second clue now, at the end of it actually. I did not manage to get a good picture of the thing maybe because the yarn is at a dark phase right now. The yarn is the same kind yarn from Tallinn that Marjut used in her shawl. Maybe even the same colour, pretty close anyway. My yarn was purchased a loooong time ago though, it just has been marinating in my stash waiting for better times. Maybe these are such times. My only problem is that I'm almost done with clue two and there's no printer in the house so I can't go on to clue number 3. Or maybe I just have to knit in front of the computer for a change.

Kaupunkikuvaa Krakovasta/City view of Krakow
Ja päivän neuleaiheisessa osuudessamme esittelemme tänään kätevät puulaatikot jotka löysin Krakovasta. Näitä löytyi useamman laisia paristakin kojusta Verkahallista joka sijaitsee keskellä toria. Olin jo pidempään miettinyt kätevää säilytyspaikkaa puikoille ja muille neulevermeille, mutta en vielä ollut saanut ostettua mitään. Sitten törmäsin näihin laatikoihin, ja kah, nämähän ovat täydellisiä neuletarvikevarastoja! Ostin siis kaksi, isomman kaksiosaisen ja pienemmän yksioisaisen (ei kuvassa). Molemmat ovat samanlaisia kauniita tumman punaruskeita kaiverruksilla. Aivan ihastuttavia ja hyvää työtä (näin sanoi jotain asiasta tietävä Hannu, minun mielestäni ne olivat vain nättejä). Kyllä nyt kelpaa säilytellä puikkoja!
And in our knit-related story of the day presents you with these two handy wooden boxes I found in Krakow. These and many other kinds were found at least in a couple of stalls in the Cloth Hall in Krakow (situated in the middle of the market square). I had been looking for something to keep my knitting stuff in for a while but hadn't managed to buy anything yet. But then I found these boxes and what do you know, they're perfect for the job! So I got two, a bigger two-compartment one and a smaller (not in picture) one-compartment one. Both are alike in design, lovely mahogany coloured with carvings. Truly lovely and good work (this was pronounced by Hannu who know something of these things, I just thought they were pretty). Now I sure have a nice storage for my knit-things!

Olen siis takaisin Puolasta. Kävimme äitini kanssa Varsovassa (3 yötä) ja Krakovassa (4 yötä) ja matka oli mukava (äidilläkin oli kivaa). Viikko kahdessa kaupungissa oli juuri sopiva koska jos on viikon samassa kaupungissa niin pitää keksiä enemmän ulkopuolisia retkiä ettei tule tylsää. Mutta, neulonut en pätkääkään (ei neuletta mukana) enkä lankaa ostanut, mutta yhteen lankakauppaan törmäsin ihan sattumalta Krakovassa. Yritin netistä etsiä etukäteen lankakauppojen osoitteita, mutta kun puolan taitoni ovat olemattomat niin eihän siitä mitään tullut. Mutta ilmeisesti lankanenäni on jalostunut jo sille asteelle että löydän kauppoja ihan ilman ennakkovalmistelujakin, sillä sellainen löytyi läheltä hotellia. En tiedä kaupan nimeä, koska kyltissä luki vaan "Pasmanteria, Galanteria" joista toinen tarkoittaa asusteita ja toista en tiedä. Mutta osoite on ul. Karmelicka 5, ihan vaan jos joku neuloja saa äkillisen langanpuutostaudin Krakovassa. Kauppa myi lankoja, vaatteita ja ompelutarvikkeita ja sieltä löytyi ainakin Lana Grossan ja Wendyn lankoja. Suurin osa langoista oli tiskin takana piilossa, joten kannattaa ottaa sanakirja ja osoittelusormi mukaan.
So I'm back from Poland. We, my Mother and I, went to Warsaw (3 nights) and Krakow (4 nights) and the trip was nice (my mom enjoyed herself too). A week in two cities was just right because if you spend a week in just one city you'll have to make some trips outside the city so you won't get bored. But, I did not knit one stitch (didn't bring my knitting) or buy any yarn but I did run into a yarn shop quite by accident in Krakow. I did try to search the internet for yarn shop addresses but since my Polish is non-existent I did not succeed. But apparently my yarn-nose has developed to a level where I can sniff out yarn shops without previous information because I found one near the hotel. I do not know the name of the shop because the sign above the doorway said only "Pasmanteria, Galanteria" and they mean "accessories" and something else which I don't know. But the address is ul. Karmelicka 5, just in case some knitter gets a case of yarn-fever while in Krakow. They sold yarn, clothes and sewing things and at least some Lana Grossa and Wendy yarns. Most of the yarns were tucked away behind the counter so if you visit take a dictionary and your pointing finger along.

Onneksi vasta paluupäivänä (lauantaina siis), mutta voin kertoa että lentokoneessa matkustaminen yli 39 asteen kuumeessa ei ole hauskaa. Mutta, elämä voittaa ja pahin on jo ohi, tai niin ainakin minusta tuntuu (tosin en ole ollenkaan varma että kosken kiinteään ruokaan enää koskaan). Lääkäritäti ei ollut ihan samaa mieltä ja uhkaili minua sairaalalla ja pakotti makaamaan sardiinina sängynpohjalla (joten ei siis kerrota sille että istun koneella, eihän?). Sain hevoskuurin antibiootteja ja käskyn mennä huomenna uudestaan. Joten kivoja neuleaiheisia Puolan-tuliaisia esittelen sitten myöhemmin jahka olen enemmän täysjärkisen oloinen.

Luckily only on the return day (that is Saturday) but I can tell you that sitting in an aeroplane while suffering with a fever of over 39C is not fun. But, life goes on and the worst is over, or that's how I feel (though I'm not sure that I'll touch solid foods ever again). The doctor-lady however wasn't of the same opinion and threatened me with hospital and commanded me to do nothing but lie in bed (so let's not tell her that I'm sitting at the computer, will we?). I got a mega-dose of antibiotics and a order to go see her again tomorrow. So I will show you some nice knit-related things I got from Poland later once I'm feeling more like myself.

En tiedä neulonko Trinityä uudestaan...sitä kun pitää neuloa niin turkasen pienillä puikoilla mutta lopputulos on kyllä kevyt ja miellyttävä. Tätä tulee kyllä pidettyä, tykkään!

Size: With the stitch counts from the size 36 I got a garment sized about 40
Opinion: This was my first time with Trinity and I at least had tremendous difficulties with the gauge. In the ball band they recommend size 4mm needles, but I knit this with 2.5mm needles and still did not get the recommended gauge, that's why the odd sizing. But I do not think this looks too loose.
Would I do this again?: Well, now I've made two knits from Jaeger books and I have to say that they are nicely written and fit nicely too. I don't know if I'll knit Trinity again because I have to knit it with such small needles, but the end result is light and nice. I'll probably wear this a lot, I like it!

Hyvää vuosipäivää - Happy anniversary
Ei blogilleni (vaikka sekin tulee kohta), vaan meille. Tänään tulee x vuotta kun ollaan oltu kihloissa (eihän sitä moisia lukuja paljasteta...eikös se ole vähän sama kuin kysyisi naiselta ikää?). Noh, juhlan kunniaksi on tarkoitus mennä Lehtovaaraan syömään. Kerran siellä olen käynyt ja palvelu oli silloin ihan mallikasta. Mutta, ehkä me ei näytetäkään nuorilta akateemisesti koulutetuilta?

Not to my blog (although it is soon too) but to us. Today it's been x years since we got engaged (that's one of those numbers that should not be revealed...isn't it a bit like asking how old a woman is?). Well, to celebrate the occasion we're going to Lehtovaara for dinner. I've been there exactly once before and the service was excellent then. But maybe we don't look like young academically educated persons?

Neulerintamalla ei ole tänään tapahtunut mitään, eikä todennäköisesti tapahdukaan. Kun illalliselle meno hieman venyy lentokoneen myöhästymisen vuoksi (täällä sitä töissä vaan istutaan). Mutta sain kyllä vihdoinkin tilaamani Loop-d-Loopinkin. Se oli kuulemma viettänyt ainakin päivän Hannun repussa eikä mulle ollut kerrottu mitään. Ihan yhtä kivalta se näytti kuin aikaisemminkin. Hieman himottaisi se samettilangasta tehty pusero (braided-bodice wench blouse) niinkuin tyyliin "hetiheti, tahtoo!". Mä tarvitsisin jonkun joka näppäisi sormille jos innostun liikaa jostakin kun on keskeneräisiä töitä ja luvattuja aloittamatta. Mutta kun sitä on niin häilyväinen luonne...se on varmaan MTV:n ansiota, se! Ja tähänhän ei mitenkään liity se, että MTV näkyi meillä viimeksi ties milloin enkä ikinä sitä nyt niin tarkasti seurannut...

On the knitting front nothing has happened today and is not likely to. Because the dinner plans were a bit delayed because a delay in flight from Oulu (and here I am still at work). But I did finally get my Loop-d-Loop. It had apparently enjoyed a bit peace and quiet inside Hannu's backpack and I wasn't notified of this. But it looked just as nice as I remembered. I almost feel like knitting the chenille blouse (braided-bodice wench blouse), almost as in "nownow, want!". I could use someone to slap my fingers when I get too excited about knitting something new when I still have unfinished knits and some promised ones need doing also. But I'm so fickle...I guess MTV is to blame! And it has nothing to do about anything that we haven't gotten MTV on our flat for ages and I never did watch it that much...

Sunday - Sunnuntai
Otsikko ei nyt ole laulunsanoja, kun ainoa sunnuntaiaiheinen laulu mikä nyt tuli mieleen on U2:n Sunday, Bloody Sunday ja se ei mielestäni oikein sovi tähän. Siispä pidän otsikon tylsänä, mitä viikonloppu ei suinkaan ollut.
Perjantaina harrastin dragonmelontaa (joukkueemme pääsi finaaliin), katsoin ilotulituskisoja ja söin tex-mex-ruokaa. Lauantaina mentiin Hannun vanhempien mökille (puoli tuntia bussilla) ja siellä tehtiin sitä normaalia, eli syötiin, sienestettiin, saunottiin ja syötiin lisää. Sieniä löytyi ihan kohtalaisesti: tatteja ja kantarelleja pääasiassa. Mustikatkin olivat vielä aika hyviä ja puolukoita olisi ollut todella runsaasti, mutta en pidä niistä. Siispä metsään jäivät. Sunnuntaina tein pikakääntymisen kodin kautta ja painelin Kristelille pelaamaan roolipeliä, elämäni ensimmäistä sellaista (mä olen Slayer, jee!). Se oli ihan hauskaa. Mutta...eikös sitä aina sanota että roolipelaaminen on nörttipoikien hommaa? Mitenkäs tämä nyt sitten menee kun meitä oli siellä kuusi naista...?

The title is not song-related now because the only Sunday-song that came to mind of was U2's Sunday, Bloody Sunday and I think that's not good here. So, I decided to keep the title boring which the weekend surely wasn't.
On Friday I engaged in dragon boat racing (our team got to the finals), watched the fireworks competition and ate tex-mex food. On Saturday we went to Hannu's parents summer place (about half an hour by bus) where we did the normal things: ate, went to hunt mushrooms (they are devious things), went to sauna and ate some more. We did manage to catch a reasonable amount of different kinds of mushrooms: chanterelles and porcini mushrooms mainly. The blueberries were still okay and there were lots of lingonberries but I do not care for them. So we left them in the forest. On Sunday I did a quick pit-stop at home and continued to Kristel's where I took part in my first-ever roleplaying game (I'm the Slayer, yay!). That was fun. But...don't they say that RPG's are what nerd boys play? How do you explain that there were six women...?

Ja kaiken ympäriinsä ryntäilyn lisäksi olen neulonut. Ronnien kaikki osat ovat valmiina ja aloitin niiden ompelua toisiinsa. Lisäksi tein Mystery Shawl-tekeleestä ensimmäisen vihjeen. Mutta koska niistä ei nyt ole kuvia, niin toteutan Annen (5v) toiveen: kuvia Gjestal-vihkosesta.

Well I'll be... - No jopas...
Toissapäivänä oli postiljooni yrittänyt tuoda pakettia kotiin mutta kukaan ei ollut halukas vastaanottamaan sitä (kyllä kissan pitäisi pystyä hoitamaan moisia pieniä hommia). Siispä haetutin sen tänään postista. Olin noin 100.1%:sen varma että paketista putkahtaisi jo ammoin tilaamani Loop-d-Loop-kirja. Suuripa olikin hämmästykseni kun paketti paljastui kullanväriseksi, pehmeäksi ja pitkulaiseksi. Ja kun ei tiedossani ollut että ko. kirjasta olisi mitään pehmopainosta otettu, niin mysteeri oli valmis.

The day before yesterday the postperson had tried to deliver a package but nobody was willing to receive it here (I really do think the cat should be able to handle small matters such as that). So I had somebody to get it for me from the post-office. I was about 100.1% sure that what I would find in said package would be the Loop-d-Loop-book I ordered ages ago. Great was my surprise when I discovered that the package turned out to be gold-coloured, soft and narrow. And since I wasn't aware that they had published any soft-version of the book the mystery was ready.

And this is what I found: A Gjestal pattern leaflet (pretty far-isle patterns), three balls of Juvel yarn in different shades of blue and a ball of multicoloured Sisu. This came from Line from Norway. Thanks a lot, Line!

Lisänä vielä himmeää kiiltoa. En tiedä mitä näistä vielä tulee, mutta jonkinlaista huivia/shaalia on mielessä. Punaista lankaa on kolme kerää ja sinistä neljä. Eiköhän niistä saa jotain aikaiseksi.

These beauties were waiting for me at the hotel when I got there. And they are Shimmer from Knitpicks in the colourways Flower Garden and Turquoise Splendor. Ah, so soft and lovely colours. And as a plus there's a shoft shine to it. I do not yet know what to make of them but some kind of scarf/shawl I think. I have three skeins of the red yarn and four skeins of the blue. Should be enough for whatever I think of.

Luulen kuitenkin että kyseessä on Paco, koska tuo väri Rhododendron on juurikin tämän värinen. En kyllä tiedä mikä langassa on vikana kun ei se minusta mitenkään vialliselta vaikuta. Next is the yarns I got from Artfibers. I'm sorry for the oddness of the red yarn. I had to use a flashlight because the colours of the Hana were difficult to catch on to the memory card without it. So on the left we have Hana, 100% silk yarn, also very soft and with a nice shine. This I got only two balls because of the price ($14.25/50g) so I see a scarf in its future also. On the right is a no-name cotton/alpaca blend yarn. It's nameless because I got it from the backroom (discount yarns) and something went wrong when making it. I suspect it might be Paco because the colour Rhododendron looks pretty much similar to this one. I do not know what is wrong with this yarn though because it seems ok to me. But it could become a cardigan with cables or something.

Jorinaa - Rambling
Nyt on jo kolmatta päivää housut märät ja vähän rupeaa kyllästyttämään. Maanantaina kävelin sateessa juna-asemalle ja tänään oli vuorossa bussipysäkki. Sateenvarjosta ei kyllä ollut kauheasti apua, mitä nyt hiukset pysyivät kuivana. Tosin sadetakkikaan ei ole välttämättä voittajan valinta...eipä ole lahkeet ikinä olleet niin märät kuin silloin kun valitsin sadetakin työmatka-asusteeksi. Kaikki sade nimittäin kerääntyi takkiin ja valui siitä sitten iloisesti housuille. Joku sadeteltta se olla pitäisi.
Eilen sitten olin punttisalilla ahkeroimassa ja hikoilemassa. En tiedä aiheuttiko hikoilemisen kova treenaaminen vai se, että siellä oli hirveän huono ilmastointi. Liekö taas ollut mennyt rikki. Eipä kyllä sen puolesta jää vanhaa salia ikävä kun Elixialle vaihdan vuodenvaihteen jälkeen. Mutta piti sitten keskeyttää treenit vähän aikaisemmin kun oli suunnitelma ehtiä postiin viemään SP5:n toista lahjaa. Suunnitelma oli hyvä mutta käytännön toteutus vähän ontui. Juuri kun pääsin ulko-ovelle kuului korviahuumaavaa rymistelyä ja silmien eteen avautui oikein kunnollinen rankkasade! Siis se kuuluisa eilinen ukkoskuuro. Ja arvatkaa kenellä ei ollut sateenvarjoa mukana? Eipä silti, ei siitä moisessa ilmassa varmaan mitään hyötyä olisi ollutkaan. No, odottelin siinä sitten tovin kunnes sade laantui ja lähdin matkaan. Kuivin jaloin en selvinnyt kuitenkaan kun alikulkukäytävissä sadevesiviemärit tulvivat ja ne näyttivät enemmänkin lammikoilta kuin jalkakäytäviltä. Ja se perhanan sadekin alkoi uudestaan. Tästä siis ne toiset märät housut (ja muutkin vaatekappaleet). Enpä ollut mitenkään herttaisella päällä päästessäni kotiin (märkä ja ärtynyt ennemminkin) kun postiinkaan en ehtinyt. Onneksi Hannu oli keittänyt teetä (kun sitä tilasin) ja pääsi lämpimään suihkuun.

Now is the third day that I have wet trousers and it's really starting to get old. On Monday I walked to the train stop in the rain and today it was to the bus stop. The umbrella was really quite useless but at least my hair remained dry. Although a rain-coat is not necessarily the optimum choice either...I've never had more wet trouser legs than the time I decided to wear one when going to work. All the rain collected by the rain-coat pooled together and ran down to get soaked by my pants. I think it should be a some kind of rain-tent to be of use.
Yesterday I was at the gym doing my workout and sweating. I do not know which contributed more to the sweating, the workout or the poor air-conditioning. I guess it broke down again. That's one thing I won't miss when I change to a different gym at the start of the next year. But I had to cut my workout short because I wanted to go to the post-office to mail a second present to my SP5. The plan was a good one but the excecution was lacking. Just as I arrived at the door I was greeted by an ear-shattering noise and quite a rain. It was the famous thunderstorm that disturbed the championship games yesterday. And guess who did not have an umbrella with her? Not that it would have been any use anyway. So I waited in the lobby for a while and decided to leave once the rain had diminished into a drizzle. I did not manage to go far dry-footed though since the drains were overflowing and the underpasses looked more like small lakes than pedestrian walkways. And the darned rain started to pick up its speed also. Here was the second case of wet pant-syndrome. I was feeling less than cheerful once I got home (damp and irritated is what I was) because I did not even get to the post-office in time. But luckily Hannu had made me some tea (I asked for it) and the shower was nice and warm.

Illan kruunasi saapuneen postin lueskelu. Sain jopa kaksi neulelehteä, uuden Rowanin ja Vogue Knittingin. Niitä oli mukava selailla teetä nauttiessa. Paitsi että en ollut kauhean ihastunut tuosta Rowanista. Omituisia vaatteita (kaikenmoisia keeppejä ja huovan oloisia hameita) ja paljon asusteita (minä nyt vaan en pidä hörhökukkasista ja kaulahörhöistä). River kiinnosti, tosin lähinnä sen vuoksi että minulla sattuu olemaan kaksi kerää Kid Silk Hazea ja Eowyn pisti silmään ja miettimään että saisikohan maanantaisesta lahjalangasta jotain. Kuvat nyt olivat Rowanin tapaan nättejä. Muuten pidin enemmän Vogue Knittingin syysnumerosta (kuvia näkee täältä). Siinä oli aika kivoja malleja, varsinkin tuo Colour Theory-osuus kiinnosti ja ne shaalit. Omituisia hörhelöitä löytyi kyllä sieltäkin, mutta ei ihan niin paljon kuin Rowanista. Olen siis Minnan kannalla ja katselenkin vielä sen yhden numeron joka tulee ja jos ei parannusta tule niin teen samoin kuin Nanna...eli vaihdan Rowanit Blissiin.

The top of my evening came when I noticed what had come in the mail that day. I got not one, but two, knitting magazines, the latest Rowan and Vogue Knitting. Those I enjoyed with my tea. Except that I was less than impressed with the latest Rowan. Weird knits (all kinds of capelets and such and skirts that look like blankets) and a lot of accessories (I just don't like fluffy flowers or neck-things). River did catch my eye but mainly because I happen to have two balls of Kid Silk Haze and Eowyn made me wonder if I could make those with my present I got on Monday. Other than those I much preferred the new Vogue Knitting (pictures can be seen here). There were quite nice patterns especially the Colour Theory portion and the shawls. Strange fluffy things were found there also but not quite as much as in Rowan. I'm of the same opinion as Minna and I think I'll see what the other issue is like that I've already paid for but if things do not improve I think I'll switch Rowan to Bliss.

Neulon eilen valmiiksi Ronnien toisen hihan. Tässä vaiheessa tarkkaavaiset lukijat voivat ihmetellä että mitenkä minä nyt tein vain toisen hihan valmiiksi kun neuloin niitä samalla puikolla molempia. Noooo...sitä välillä sattuu että kääntyykin ns. väärään suuntaan ja neuloo vain toista hihaa. Niinpä oli helpompi jatkaa sen toisen neulomista. Vauhti on siis hidastunut, mutta lähinnä sen vuoksi että ei ole ollut aikaa neuloa. Eipä ole tänäänkään kun töitten jälkeen pitäisi mennä harjoittelemaan Dragon-melontaa (taitaa olla minulla jo viides kerta tiedossa) ja saunomaan. Sää nyt ei mitenkään houkuttele soutuharjoitteluun mutta johan sitä tässä on farkut melkein kuivat...

Yesterday I finished the other sleeve of Ronnie. At this point careful readers might wonder how I managed to do that since I was knitting both at the same time and with the same needles. Welllll...sometimes it happens that one turns at the wrong point and ends up knitting only one sleeve. So it was easier to continue with just the one. Ronnie's progress has slowed down considerably but only because I have not had time to knit. And I do not have time to do that today either. I'm going to a Dragon boat practice (I think it's my fifth time to race this year) and then a sauna. The weather does not really tempt me to go on the water but my jeans are almost dry already...

Ankea päivä - Dreary day
Tänään oli ankea päivä. Loma loppui, piti taas liittyä työmatkalaisten joukkoon. Ja siihen sainkin oikein oivan aloituksen: unohdin kuinka surkeat aikataulut kesällä ovat (minun kun pitää mennä kahdella bussilla töihin) ja sain odottaa noin puoli tuntia Mannerheimintiellä toista bussia. Sateessa. Onneksi sentään bussipysäkillä oli katos. Ja ankeus senkun jatkui vaan...unohdin että olin luvannut tavata Tiitin (neulontalistalta) Helsingissä viideltä kaupankäynnin merkeissä enkä tietenkään ottanut lehtiä mukaan töihin. Siis eikun aikaisin töistä kotiin (no, jotain hyvää siis), pikakääntyminen kodin kautta ja taas menoksi. Vettä satoi tässä vaiheessa jo vaakasuoraan ja kävelymatka juna-asemalle aiheutti farkkujen ja kenkien melkoista kastumista. Inhoan märkiä farkkuja! Niistä tulee kylmännihkeät peltipöksyt. Ja farkutko muka mukavat housut, hah!

Today was a dreary day. My holiday ended and I had to join the rank of commuters again. And I got a nice reminder: I forgot how bad the connections are during summertime (I have to take two buses to work) and I had to wait for my next bus for half an hour. In the rain. At least the bus stop had a roof over it. And the dreariness continued...I forgot I had made arrangements to meet Tiiti (from a knitting forum) in Helsinki at five pm in order to perhaps engage in a bit of bargaining and of course I did not have the magazines with me. So I had to leave work early (well, perhaps something good after all) make a pit-stop at home and then continue the race. The rain was pretty much horizontal at this point and the walk to the train stop caused considerable build-up of moisture in the jeans and shoes department. I hate wet jeans! They become cold and clammy armour-like pants. And they call jeans comfortable, hah!

We did manage to find each other (I held a Burda-magazine in my hand instead of a more traditional rose) and a couple of old magazines and a book found a new home. We had quite a nice chat and I even got some presents: some hand-spun yarn. The colourful spot of the day indeed.

Thank you for the birthday wishes for everyone. Even though I did not eat strawberries at that day I did enjoy a couple of glasses of sparkling wine and ate some cloudberry cake. Both were yummy!

Lanka on myös aika haurasta, eli ei kestä kauheasti vetämistä vaan katkeaa. Eipä tuosta kyllä ongelmaa neulomisessa ole ollut muuten kuin silloin kun langat takertuvat toisiinsa kiinni. Pitää pysähtyä selvittelemään solmua eikä voi vaan nyiskellä lankaa mielensä mukaan. Efektiväriä raitaan menee todella vähän eli minulle jää melkein täysi kerä pinkkiä lankaa. Next is Ronnie and the sleeves (sounds like a band, doesn't it?). I like to knit with Trinity even though I have to use too small needles (I think it's 2.5mm for me) to get a nice-looking surface. The yarn is also a bit fragile meaning that if you pull it a bit too much it'll break. Not that that has been a problem while knitting it's just that I have to be a bit careful when the yarns tangle and take time to untangle them and not just pull at the yarn with my usual fashion. The amount of the efect colour is quite small meaning that I'll be left with almost an untouchable ball of pink yarn. Maybe I should go buy it some pals and knit a top or something?
