Gah!

Tässä olisin halunnut kertoa uuden Ullan ilmestynee, mutta ei se vielä olekaan valmis. Kaikenmaailman sähkökatkot, nettipimennot ja Taudit ovat vaikeuttaneet koostamista. Mutta tässä sentään pari teaseria. Näihin löytyy ohjeet tulevasta Ullasta: Kierre-kämmekkäät ja Kukkasillaan-sukat. Tämä tosin lähtee lauantaina matkalle, että uusi Ulla tulee kyllä viimeistään perjantaina.

Here I would have liked to announce that the new Ulla is out. But it is not yet, so I can't. All matter of force majour things intervened, like a long blackout, a net connection didn't work and a Disease. But here are some teasers for you, these will be in the new Ulla Kierre (Twist) fingerless gloves and Kukkasillaan (With Flowers) sukat. But this one is going abroad on Saturday so hopefully the new Ulla will be published before that.

Minäkin olin siellä! - I was there too!

Tampereen messuilla siis. Matkaan lähti viiden neulojan iskujoukko ja hauskaa oli (mukana mm. Midori, Satu ja Deb). Törmäsin moneen tuttuun neulojaan ja jopa äitiini. Lankojakin ostin, mutta en mitään hillitöntä määrää. Iltasella käytiin vielä Sirellä ja sitten kotiin väsyneinä mutta tyytyväisinä.

At the Tampere fair that is. The five of us (including Midori, Satu and Deb) took off early in the morning and we spent hours at the fair (and had fun). I met some knitters I now and even met my Mother there. I bought some yarns too but I was quite moderate. In the evening we visited Sire and then came home tired but happy.

Ensimmäiset ostokset tein Priiman kojusta, vaikka ko. kauppa on kyllä ihan käyntietäisyydelläkin. Mutta kun nämä olivat niin kauniin värisiä.. (Noro Silk Garden 211 viisi kerää).

The first yarns I got from the Priima stand, even though I can visit the shop whenever I please. But these were just so pretty to pass on...(Noro Silk Garden, 211, five balls).

Myöhemmin törmäsin äitiini joka halusi että neulon hänelle jotain kivaa, siispä menimme takaisin Priimaan ja ostimme Noro Kureyon-sukkalankaa pari vyyhtiä. Näistä pitäisi tehdä liivi neulekoneella, mutta se saa odottaa mittoja ja joulunjälkeistä aikaa. Väri on kyllä todella kaunis (S188), näistähän voisi tehdä jotain itsellekin.

Then later I ran into my Mother who wanted me to knit something nice for her. So back to Priima we went and came out with these: Noro Kureyon sock colour S188. These will become a vest knitted with the machine but it'll have to wait a bit until I get some measurements. Probably after xmas. The colour is nice though, might want to make something out of it for me too.

Toikalta mukaan löytyi uutta tuttavuutta, Merino Lux-lankaa (merino/tencel 50/50). Lanka taitaa olla aivan uusi valikoimissa koska sitä ei löyty netistä ja myyjä ei tiennyt sen pesusta mitään, mikä mielestäni oli hieman outoa. Mutta kolme kartiota hyppäsi kuitenkin mukaan, näistä jotain raitaista tai kirjoneuleista tulossa. Ja huomaatteko uuden värin? Tuollainen vaaleansinervä? Väriskaalan laajentaminen on joskus ihan hyvä juttu. Tosin tässä se lähti siitä että olin aikeissa päätyä normaaliväriini (jotain lilanpunaista) mutta Midori nappasi toisen kartion havittelemastani väristä ja siitä se sitten lähti. Tässä esiintyvät värit rich purple, navy ja whippleblue. Tuo rich purple (vasemmalla) on kyllä enemmän punerva luonnossa, mutta olen huomannut että sellaiset sävyt ovat haastavia kameralle. Mutta kuvitelkaa.

From Toika I grabbed three cones of Merino Lux (merino/tencel 50/50). I think the yarn is brand new in their selection for I could not find it on their on-line catalogue and the saleslady had no clue as to the washing instructions, which I thought a bit strange. But I wanted it nonetheless and came out with three cones. Can you see I bought a new colour? A sort of watery blue? It's good to broaden one's colour horizon once in a while. Though in this case it was bit of an accident since I had my eye on one of my usual colours (a sort of reddish purple) but Midori snatched the other cone right in front of me and I had to improvise. Not at all disappointed with my choises though. Here are the colours rich purple, navy and whippleblue. The rich purple is more red in real life but I've noticed that that kind of colours are a bit difficult for my camera. So you'll just have to imagine.

Tämä sitten ei ollutkaan enää mikään vahinko, tumman vedenvihreää BC Garn Silkbloom Fino-lankaa Titityyltä. Tätä lähti mukaan neljä vyyhtiä ja tästä tulee toivottavasti liivi. Jossa on jotain kivaa pintaneuletta/helppoa palmikkoa/jotain.

This, though, was no accident, a lovely deep aqua from the Titityy stand. Four balls of BC Garn Silkbloom Fino came home with me and will some day soonish become a vest of some kind. Maybe with a simple sitch pattern/cable/something.

Ja tähän päättyikin lankaesittelyt. Poimin mukaan vielä jotain kivaa Peikonpojalta, maatuskakuvioisen pikkupussin ja kerroslaskurin. Sain myös flunssan, mutta se ei ollut kyllä toivottujen listalla. Muuten messut olivat mukavat ja todennäköisesti menen myös ensi vuonna.

And that concluded our yarn section of today. I picked up also something small from Peikonpoika, a small pouch with russian doll pattern and a round calculator. I picked up a flu too but that wasn't intentional. Other than that I liked the fair and will probably go there next year too.

Elämä, maailmankaikkeus - ja Ulla - Life, the Universe and Ulla

Kivasti on jo marraskuukin ehtinyt alkuun ennenkuin olen edes ajatellut blogaamista. Pari viime viikkoa on taas ollut aika matalakiitoa kaiken suhteen, mm. suoritin IPMA C-sertifikaatin ja sen jälkeen oli hiukan takki tyhjä. Sitten iski Ulla kimppuun ja se on myös aika aikavaativa ystävä...ja on vielä jonkin aikaa. Mutta sitten on kaikilla kivaa kun on uusi Ulla (nyt voi äänestää kansikuvaa, mars).

Just came to realize that November is merrily on its way before I even thought about blogging. Last few weeks have been quite busy with things, for example I passed my IPMA C-certificate exam. After that I felt a bit weary, then the upcoming Ulla began demanding my time...and will do so for a while more. But then we are all happy when we have a new Ulla (soonish).

Mutta Colourmartin off-the-cone -langat ovat kaikki saaneet kerämuodon. Toiset isomman kuin toiset. Minulla oli hieman ongelmia puuvilla-kashmirin kanssa ja siihen tulikin noita pikkukeriä useampi.

But Colourmart's off-the-cone yarns are finally wound. Some to a bigger skein than some. I had a bit of trouble with the cotton-cashmere and I ended up with several little balls.

Sitkeästi jaksoin selvitellä sotkeentunutta lankaa ilman hermojenmenetystä. Ylijäämää syntyi siis varsin vähän. Hyvä minä!

I persisted admirably in dealing with tangles and so I ended up with only little left-overs. Yay me!

Kaikkea sitä - Of all things

Kaikkeen se neulojan mieskin joutuu. Mm. etsimään viinipulloa jonka ympärysmitta on 25 senttiä. Ja löytyihän se...ai mitä varten? No tätä. Eikö olekin ihan kuin kermakakku?

The things a knitter's husband has to do. For example search for a bottle that has a circumference of 25 cm. Why? Well, for this. Isn't it like whipped cream?

Viivyttelyä - Procrastination

Ullan deadline lähestyy ja mitäpä minä teen? No tietysti jotain ihan muuta. Tässä on tulossa Less is More-kauluri Kristelin ohjeella. Hiljaa hyvä tulee jne, Hand Maiden Casbah Sock on ihanaa neulottavaa. Tämä on väriä Lily Pond, kaunista vihreä-pinkki-lilaa. Hieman läikittymistä havaittu, mutta onneksi ei mitään järkyttävää. Sukissa voisi olla eri asia.

Ulla's deadline is getting closer and what do I do? Well, something else of course. Here is the start of my Less is More-cowl from Kristel's pattern. It's getting along, more or less. I'm making it out of Hand Maiden Casbah Sock and it is a dream to knit. This is the colourway Lily Pond. I'm liking the colours a lot and though there's a bit of pooling it's not dramatic. I'm guessing it might be different with socks.

Lankoja on keritty. Mitään kauhean dramaattista ei vielä ole tapahtunut. Tosin tällä hetkellä työn alla oleva puuvilla-kashmir näyttää päätyvän kerille osissa. Hermoja ei vielä ole menetetty selvittelyssä eikä saksia ole tarvittu.

I've done some yarn cakes. Nothing too dramatic has happened yet though the cotton-cashmir off-the-cone I'm working on now seems to end up being wound in parts. But, so far I haven't lost it nor have I had to resort to scissors.

No ok, huijasin, kyllä minä Ulla-neuleitakin teen. Tästä piti tulla lapsen pipo, mutta olen ilmeisesti kykenemätön tekemään muuta kuin omaa kokoani joten se päätyi purkuun. Ja täytyy sanoa, tätä lankaa ei ole ilo purkaa.

Well, ok, I fooled you. I am knitting something for Ulla. This was supposed to become a kid's hat but I seem to be unable to knit in any other size than mine so I had to rip it. And I have to say, it is not a pleasure to rip this yarn.

Kissalla on uusi lempipaikka. Tai on ollut jo pari viikkoa. Alla pestyjä lakanoita, mutta eihän niitä nyt voi vetää kun kissa niin nauttii. Ja sillä että ollaan laiskoja ei suinkaan ole mitään tekemistä asian kanssa, e-hei.

The cat has a new favourite sleeping place. And this has been it for the past two weeks or so. Underneath are washed sheets. And of course we can't put them away since the cat enjoys herself so. The fact that we are lazy here has nothing to do with it, oh no.

Väriä pimeään - A little bit of colour

Vihdoinkin hieman päivänvaloa ja valokuvaaja paikalla samaan aikaan (en ollut viikonloppuna samassa paikassa huivin kanssa). Valokuva valmiista Revontuli-huivista. Siitä tuli oikein sievä, eikä lankaakaan kulunut kuin 180 g ja koko on minulle aika sopiva. Tykkään.

Finally a bit of daylight and my cameraman available at the same time (I was separated from the scarf during the weekend). And lo, a photo of the finished Revontuli-shawl. It turned out quite nice and I spent only 180 g of yarn and the size is just right for me. I like this one!

Verilöyly, tai kun neulojalla keittää pahasti - Carnage, or when a knitter goes bad

Mitä tapahtuu kun laitetaan samaan tilaan mukasiisti vyyhti lankaa ja neuloja? No, jompikumpi siitä selviytyy mutta tällä kertaa se ei ollut se vyyhti, ainakaan kokonaan. Fiskarsit, ja näin siinä sitten kävi. Ei siitä sen enempää.

What happens when you put a mock-nice skein of yarn and a knitter together? Well, one comes out victorious but it was not the skein this time. A pair of scissors and this is what happened. Let's not talk about it again, shall we?

Kaikilla on ilmeisesti oma juttunsa missä he ovat hyviä. No, yksi minun jutuistani on taito saada vaikka kuinka kauniista ja siististä kerästä tai vyyhdistä aikaan hemmetinmoinen sekasotku. Se on nimittäin enemmän sääntö kuin poikkeus että tuhrua tulee jossain vaiheessa - viikonloppuna sekoitin myös täydellisen siistin kerän Hand Maidenin Casbah-lankaa. Sen kyllä sain selviteltyä ihan kiltisti ilman teräaseiden apua. Mutta taipumukseni tietäen olikohan tämä nyt ihan järkevää? Tilasin nimittäin ebaystä Colourmartin off-the-skein langanloppuja, eli jämäeriä kartioilta irrotettuja lankoja, halpoja kyllä. Mutta...saa nähdä mitä näistä jää jäljelle. Tässä on 300 g 100% kashmiria.

It appears that everyone has things that they're good at. Well, one of my things is taking a perfectly fine skein or ball of yarn and making a god-awful mess of it. It is more a rule than a random occurrence that it happens - just last weekend I managed to mess up a perfectly fine skein of Hand Maiden's Casbah. That I managed to untagle too, without resorting to the use of sharp objects. But knowing my affliction I wonder if this was really smart. For I ordered Colourmart's off-the-skein odds and ends from ebay. This is about 300 g's worth of 100 % cashmere.

Onnistumisia ja niitä toisia - Good work and the other kind too

Valo, se on kumma asia. Ja sitä ei ikinä ole tarpeeksi, ei ainakaan silloin kun haluaisi ottaa valokuvia. Tekaisin vihdoinkin Kelson valmiiksi tuossa sunnuntai-iltana ja eihän silloin enää mitään valoa missään ollut. Maanantaina tulin myöhään enkä jaksanut pomppia pihalla (jalka kipeä). Samoin tiistaina (paitsi jalka oli jo parempi, särkylääkkeet toimivat). Tänään yritin valokuvata itseäni työpaikan vessassa (no, siellä oni isohko peili ja järkevä tausta) ja tuleehan siitä kovin ihastuttavaa loisteputken valossa.

Light, it is a funny thing. And there never seems to be enough of it, particularly if you try to take photographs. I finally sat down and finished Kelso, on Sunday evening, and lo and behold - no light anywhere. On Monday I got home late and it was dusk and I didn't feel like going outside (I had a sore leg). The same happened on Tuesday (except my leg was better, yay painkillers). Today I tried to take some photos at the toilet at work (well, it has a large mirror and a decent background). And what a lovely photo it is, with the fluorescent light.

Kotona pähistelin ilman apukuvaajaa ja eihän siitä nyt oikein mitään tule. Muuta kuin todistetta että on se, valmis. Ja juu, sopii se päällekin. Tein takin ohjeen koolla 35 tuumaa, mitä nyt pidensin sitä noin yhden mallikerran verran, sekä vartaloa että hihoja. Aika mukavan kokoinen siitä tuli. Saa nyt nähdä miten lanka käyttäytyy, toivottavasti ei veny kauheasti. Tämä on kyllä jo pesty koneessa kertaalleen, että ei luulisi. Kaula-aukko valahti mielestäni hieman liian alas, joten jatkoin nyöritystä ylöspäin hieman ja toimii hyvin. Nyörityksestä puheenollen pitää tehdä uusi nyöri, tuo on tuollainen hätäapu ja siltä se näyttääkin.

Mutta, kahden päivän pidon jälkeen pidän siitä edelleen ja neule tuntuu miellyttävältä päällä. Lanka on joskus Tallinnasta raahaamaani Gedifran Fifty-Fifty-lankaa jossa on nimensä mukaisesti puolet puuvillaa ja toinen puoli akryyliä. Olin huolissani langan riittävyydestä jossain välissä mutta turhaan, sitä jäi ruhtinaalliset puolitoista kerää.

At home I tried to take some photos by myself but it does not really work. All you can see that yes, I made it and yes, it fits. And what colour it is. Other than that - no, not really. I made it with the size 35 inch stitches but I lengthened the body and sleeves about one pattern repeat and it turned out fine. I'm curious about how the yarn behaves though I washed it before blocking so it should not stretch too much. The neck line was a bit too low for me so I solved it by continuing with the lacing on the other direction and it looks okay too. And speaking about that, I do have to make a proper cord for this one, the one I'm using is just a temporary and does not work too well.

But, after two day's wear I still like it. The fit is good and the yarn feels nice. The yarn is something I dragged from Tallinn a while ago, Gedifra's Fifty-Fifty that is, as it says, half cotton and half acrylic. Too bad it is discontinued. But I was worried about whether or not I have enough yarn at some point but I got plenty left over - a ball and a half even.

Ja muutakin on tullut valmiiksi. Aloitin Tallinna matkaa varten Revontulen sateenkaarenvärisetä viron villasta ja tässä se nyt köllöttää, valmiina. Ja ei mitenkään mahtavan hyvin pingoitettuna kuten kuvasta näkee. Maton koko on luokkaa 120x180, joten tuosta voi kokoluokkaa arvioida. En oikein siedä tuota villanhajua valmiissa neuleessa joten tungin koko komeuden pesukoneeseen villapesuohjelmaan ja hyvin kävi. Lämpötila oli tosin 30 astetta, en taitaisi tuota korkeampaan uskaltaa laittaa kun tuo on aika ärhäkkää huopumaan, tuo lanka.

And I've got another one finished. I started a carry-on project for the trip to Tallinn and I chose Revontuli and a rainbow-coloured Estonian wool to make it with. I didn't do that good a job with blocking but the rug is about 120x180 cm so you can approximate the size. Not too big but not a tiny shawl either. And since I do not like the smell of this wool in a finished project I popped it into the washing machine and ran a wool cycle at 30C and it came out fine. I would not risk it with any higher temperature for this wool felts really, really well.

Miksi minulle käy aina näin? Ajattelin keriä pari vyyhtiä jotka olivat jääneet lojuskelemaan ja tässä oli vuorossa puolikas vyyhti joka jäi nälkävuosi-huivista yli. Olen mielestäni säilyttänyt sitä ihan kiltisti vyyhdillä mutta hohhoh, ei se keriminen sitten oikein suoraan onnistunutkaan. Perkele, sanon vaan.

And why, oh why this always seems to happen to me? I decided to wind some skeins I had laying around into balls and this was half a skein I had left over from the very long and boring scarf I knit in the spring. It looked all right and I thought I had been kind with it but no, it does not look very fine now. Damn, it's all I can say.

Neuleyhdistys Ulla järjesti jäsenilleen langanostomatkan tuonne neulojan paratiisiin, Tallinnaan eilen, lauantaina ja minä olin mukana matkanjärjestäjänä yhdessä Lauran kanssa. Kävimme Karnaluksissa (totta kai), Pronksi Lõngapoodissa (Pronksi 6) ja Liann Lõngadissa, syömässä Kolmen Sammakon Grillissä ja jäipä aikaa omaan hortoiluunkin. Jotkut kävivät vielä ostamassa vironvilloja Sadamarketista.

Ulla arranged a yarn-trip to Tallinn for its members yesterday and I was there as a trip organizer together with Laura. We went to Karnaluks (of course), Pronksi Lõngapood (Pronksi 6) and Liann Lõngad, we at at the Three Frogs Grill and there was some free time also. Some went to buy Estonian wool yarns at Sadamarket.

Mitäpä tarttui minulle mukaan? No kaikenlaista, kuten vaaleanpunaista. Oikealla on Essien kynsilakkaa sävyä Mademoiselle. Sitä käyttävät kuulemma mm. Madonna, Cindy Crawford ja Sharon Stone. Eli instat-kuuluisuutta pullossa?

What did I get? Well, all sorts of stuff, like three kinds of pink. The one on the right is Essie's Mademoiselle that, I hear, famous people like Madonna, Cindy Crawford and Sharon Stone use. Instant fame in a bottle, then?

Sälää Karnaluksista ja muualta. Ja ei, tuo kynsilakka ei ole mustaa vaikka siltä näyttää vaan tummaa lilaa. Se tässä ompelutarvikkeiden joukossa kun edellisen kuvan pinkkiä asetelmaa ei sopinut rikkoa moisella.

Stuff from Karnaluks and elsewhere. And no, that is not black nail polish even though it looks like it, but it is very dark violet. I couldn't spoil the lovely pinkness of the previous photo with this so I had to present it with the sewing stuff.

Ja viimeinkin lankaa. Karnaluksista lähti mukaan tukkupakkaus (eli kilo) Novitan Cloud-lankaa sinisenä. Hinta oli alle puolet Suomen vastaavasta, järkyttävää.

And yes, some yarn. From Karnaluks I got a kilo of Novita's Luxury-line yarn, Cloud. And shockingly, it cost less than half of what it does here.

Pronksin kaupasta mukaan tuli hieman päälle 300 g tumman teräksenharmaata puuvillalankaa. Siinä on mukana hieman jotain kiiltävää, jota oli aika mahdotonta saada tarttumaan kuvaan, mutta ehkä tästä salamalla otetusta kuvasta saa käsitystä. Siellä oli myös ohutta Grignascon Merinosilkin paksuista merinolankaa joka, toisinkuin Titanwool, oli konepestävää. Hinnaltaan se oli Titanwoolia kalliimpaa kyllä ja en tietenkään muista nimeä...italialaista se oli.

From Pronksi's store I got me a cone of some cotton yarn in very dark grey. It has some shiny strands in it but it was very hard to get it to show. Maybe this one taken with a flash shows it some. They also had some nice, thin merino wool (same as Grignasco's Merinosilk but without the silk) which you could machine was - unlike the TitanWool one. Can't remember the name but it was Italian...and more expensive than the thin TitanWool but less than Grignasco.

Ja vironvillaa, Sadamarketista. Panimme merkille että lankoihin oli tullut kivasti uusia värejä, tämäkin oli sellaista mihin en ole aiemmin törmännyt. Sinistä, virheää ja lilaa. Tästä tulee kyllä huivi, en vaan tiedä vielä mikä, mutta katsellaan.

And Estonian wool, from Sadamarket. We noticed that they had many new colours and this was one of them: lilac, blue and green. This will be a scarf one day but I do not yet know which. We'll see.

Viiimeinen paketti - The last package

Viikko tähän asti: liikaa töitä (osa omaa syytä, mutta ei kaikki), pesukone sanoo sopimustaan irti ja en uskalla pestä sillä enää (hmph, mokoma on vasta 14 vuotta vanha), sain flunssan ja huomenna pitäisi mennä Tallinnaan. Mutta, sainpa jotain kivaakin, paketti salaiselta ystävältä. Tai no, koska paketti oli viimeinen niin eipä tuo enää niin salainen ole. Mutta, paketin sisältö: kortteja! Ihania pölhön näköisiä kissakortteja.

The week so far: too much work to do (partly own fault but not all), the washing machine decided to start breaking (and it's only 14 years old or so), and I got a flu and I'm supposed to go to Tallinn tomorrow. But, on the bright side: I got a package from my Secret Pal. Although since it was the last package, she's not so secret anymore. But, what was inside: cards! Lovely cards with a goofy-looking cat.

My SP had also knit me a scarf, just my colours - it was really hard to photograph but it has really nice blue-purple colours. There was some chocolate too, but I ate it already, so no photos. But thank you, Heather, for the lovely gifts.

Edistystä - Some progress

Kulunut viikko oli taas kamala. Uuteen tiimiin siirtyminen on teettänyt töitä ihan eri tavalla, on kaikenlaista kyselemistä ja selvitettävää ja tiedettävää. Viikkoa työllisti vielä mm. sertifikaattitestin hakemus, joka oli lievästi sanottuna työteliäs. Nyt vaan koetta odottamaan... Mutta se töistä.

Neulekonekurssi on taas alkanut ja olen saanut aikaan vasta mallitilkkuja ja ideoita pyörii päässä. Ne mustat Sivillat jotka ostin messuilta pääsevät neuleliiviksi, jahka kehitän ohjeen. Ajattelin ihan törkeästi käydä kaupassa kokeilemassa liivejä niin tiedän kuinka leveän siitä teen. Luulisi että siitä pitäisi tehdä enemmänkin pieni kuin iso, tarkoitus on tehdä sellainen napakka istuva malli.

Päällä köllöttelevä vihreä on pellavaa. Sen suhteen olen hieman pettynyt. Se on aika kovaa eikä pesukoneessa pyörittely aiheuttanut oikeastaan muuta kuin hieman kutistumista. Pitää vielä miettiä mitä moisesta voisi tehdä, mutta toisaalta luulisi että se käytössä pehmenee, eikö pellava tee niin?

This week has been horrid. I've moved on to a new team and there's tons of things I should know and it has resulted in running around and asking people stuff etc. This week I've also spent time with making the applicatin for the certificate test, which required quite a lot of work. Now it's just waiting for the exam... But enough about work.

The machine knitting class started again and so far I've only made swatches. My head is filling with ideas, we'll see how they turn out as the course progresses. The thin black yarn I bought at the fair will become a vest once I figure out the correct measurements. I think it'll have to be with fairly much negative ease for I want a smart, well-fitting one to wear with blouses. I think I'll just go to some shop with a measuring tape and try them on.

The green one on top is linen. I was a bit disappointed with it, since it came out quite hard and washing didn't do much difference, except that it just shrunk a bit. I think I'll put it aside for now. But shouldn't linen get softer with use?

Punainen on Wetterhoffin paksumpaa silkkivillaa, Sivillaa. Sitä on myös ilo neuloa koneella, ja idea jota kokeilin ohuemmalla langalla toimii tässä mainiosti. Yläpuolen mallikuvio on sellainen että siinä alussa otetaan tietty määrä silmukoita pois neuloksesta. Kun silmukat päästää vapaasti putoamaan alas tulee levenee sileä neule mielenkiinoitsesti. Kehittelen ideaa, tästä todennäköisesti tulee jonkinlainen neuletakki tai -pusero jossa alaosassa on tuota leveämpää neuletta. Nyt vaan pitäisi päättää se väri mitä tilaa.

The red one is Wetterhoff's thicker silk-wool yarn called Sivilla. It is also a pleasure to knit with a machine and I made a swatch similar I did with the thinner yarn. I found a pattern where you take some needles out of the work and if you just let these stitches drop all the way down it creates a nice flaring effect on a stockinette stitch. I'm thinking a cardi or a pullover with this tuck-pattern on the top and flaring on the bottom. Still have to decide what colour yarn to order.

Kelso on edennyt myös. Nyt minulla on kaksi hihaa. Vielä pitää hieman pohdiskella vartalo-osan pituutta ennenkuin voin yhdistää hihat siihen. Olen nyt tehnyt suunnilleen ohjeen verran pituutta siihen, mutta todennäköisesti teen saman kuin hihoille, eli pidennän niitä hieman. Mutta tästähän voisi tulla kohta vaikka valmista.

I've made progress with the Kelso cardigan. Now I have two sleeves to go with the almost-body. I have to think a bit on how long I want the body to be. So far I've knitted it as long as specified in the pattern, but I think I'll do as with the sleeves, make them a bit longer that is. But it is starting to look like it won't take too long to get a finished cardi.

Me menimme, eilen. Huristelimme bussilla Nuuksion eteläosiin ja lähdimme tarpomaan metsään. Parin tunnin hortoilun jälkeen saaliina oli jokunen tatti ja runsaasti hirvikärpäsiä. Niitä otuksia oli onneksi vain parissa paikkaa, mutta niissä sitäkin runsaammin. Löysin pari yksilöä lippalakkini sisältä, mutta onneksi niitä ei kiinnostanut hiuskuontaloni. Hirvikärpäset jäivät matkanvarrelle, sienet päätyivät pataan - ja nälästä johtuen emme syöneet kana-tattipastaa kuten oli tarkoitus, vaan siitä tuli ennemin tatti-tatti-kanapastaa...hyvää tosin.

We went, yesterday. We took a bus to the southern part of Nuuksio and went off into the forest. After a couple of hour's worth of wandering we had a few boletus mushrooms and lots of deer flys. Those insects we found only on couple of places but there they were plenty. I even found couple inside my hat but luckily they weren't interested in my hair. The deer flys we left in the forest but the mushrooms ended up in a pan - and due to hunger we didn't eat chicken pasta with mushrooms but more like mushroom pasta with chicken...good though.

Nämä eivät löytyneet metsästä, vaikka värin (ja nimen) puolesta sinne kelpaisivatkin. Ihastuin Zeskalla (valitettavasti tuolta ei löydy kuvaa) Titityyn sukkaklubin lankaan ja päätin että sitä on saatava itsellekin. Harvinaista kyllä, mietin ensi mitä siitä voisi tehdä (liian kaunista pelkkiin sukkiin) ja päädyin Union Square Market Pulloveriin. Siispä otoskoriin hyppäsi myös erivärinen kerä samaa lankaa.

Mutta, tässä tuo lanka, Fleece Artist Merino sock 2/6, väriä Moss (sammal). Tuo ei ole kyllä ihan niin namin väristä kuin se sukkaklubin lanka, tämä on keltaisempaa kuin se. Mutta kaunista yhtäkaikki.

These I didn't find in the forest although their name would suggest that. I saw a skein of sock club yarn at Zeska's place (sadly, no photo of it there) and I loved it and decided that I had to have some too. What's rare, I actually thought first what I could make with it (too pretty for mere socks) and came up with Union Square Market Pullover. So I got a skein in another colorway too.

But, here's the yarn I got, Merino Sock 2/6 from Fleece Artist in Moss. This one is not as lovely as the one I saw, it's more yellow, but nice nonetheless.

Kontrastiväriksi tulee sitten samaa lankaa väriä Rainforest (sademetsä). Vaikka se näyttää kuvassa hieman vihreämmältä, niin samaa kellanvihreää löytyy tämänkin kerän kätköistä, että luulisi sopivan. Nyt täytyy vain paikallistaa oma kappaleeni kyseistä Interweave Knits-lehteä ja hauskuus voi alkaa.

As a contrast colour I'll be using this, the same yarn in Rainforest. Even though it looks more green in this photo, it has the same yellow green in it too, so it should fit just fine. Now all I have to do is locate my copy of that particular Interweave Knits and I'm all set.

Olenpahan vähän muutakin neuloskellut, tässä vartaloa Kelso-neuletakkiin. Eipä siitä sen enempää, hiljaa hyvä tulee jne. Helppoa neulottavaa, lanka on ihan kivaa, toivottavasti lopputuloskin. Pyörönä neulottaessa on se huono puoli että kaikki näyttää niin isolta ja tulee helposti tehtyä hiukan liian piukkaa. Mutta kyllähän kuvio aukeaa pingotuksessa, että eiköhän tästä hyvä tule. Pitää vaan pistää puikot liikkeelle että ei ehdi tulla liian kylmä tällaiselle. Tosin taisin aloittaa eilen parin sukkia...

I've knitted a bit too. Here's what I've done of Kelso Lace Cardigan. Well, not much to tell about it. The knitting is easy, yarn is nice, hopefully the end result is that too. The difficulty in knitting in the round is that everything looks so large that it is easy to end up with something that is too small. But the pattern will open up while blocking so it should be just fine. I just have to get on with this so that the weather won't get too cold for this kind of knit. Though I think I started a pair of socks yesterday...

Messuilta - From the Fair

Kävin minäkin Helsingin kädentaitomessuilla Wanhassa Satamassa lauantaina ja tarkoitushan oli ostaa vain mustaa ohutta lankaa neulekonekurssille, sliparia varten. Ja sitä ostinkin - kolme vyyhtiä Wetterhofin Silviaa.

I went to the Helsinki Handicraft Fair on Saturday too and the plan was to buy some thin black yarn for the machine knitting class for I want to knit a vest. And I did - I got three skeins of Wetterhof Silvia, a silk-wool blend.

Mitään muuta en tarvinnut, eli nämähän eivät siis oikeasti tulleet mukaan. Ei tullut ostettua yhtätoista vyyhtiä Colinetten Cadenzaa Bright Charcoal-väriä, ei vaikka se maksoi vain neljä euroa vyyhti. Ei ostettu, ei.

And since I didn't need anything else I didn't buy anything else. I didn't even buy 11 skeins of Colinette Cadenza in Bright Charcoal, even though it cost only four euros a skein. Nope, didn't buy a thing.

And I didn't buy a skein of dark green hemp yarn either.

Nor did I buy 500 grams of green linen.

Enkä varsinkaan ostanut kahta vyyhtiä Hand Maiden Fine Yarnsin Sea Silk-lankaa väriä Moss. En, vaikka se oli kuinka ihanaa tahansa.

And I certainly didn't buy two skeins of Hand Maiden Fine Yarns Sea Silk in lovely Moss, no matter how shiny and pretty it looked.

Ja korujahan en ainakaan tarvitse, joten en myöskään ostanut hopeista papuketjua tai kaunista emalilaattaa.

And I have absolutely no need for jewellery so of course I didn't buy a silver bean-chain or a lovely pendant.

So I had a cheap fair-experience for I got nothing except the three skeins of thin black yarn I was planning to.
