Viime viikonloppuna - Last weekend

Nyt onnistuin olemaan ilmoittautumisaikana koneen ääressä ja pääsin mukaan neuleretriittiin. Kyseessä on järjestyksessä neljäs ja minulla toinen.

This time I managed to be on the web at the correct time and got to join the knitting retreat. This was the 4th of its kind and my second.

Koolla oli suunnilleen 50 naista ja ohjelmaan kuului kehräämistä, neulomista, syömistä, juomista, juttelua, nauramista, saunomista ja olipa pari työpajaakin tarjolla.

There was about 50 women and on the agenda was spinning, knitting, eating, drinking, talking, laughing, sauna and even a couple of workshops.

Itse en kehrännyt enkä ottanut osaa työpajoihin, muuta tuli kyllä tehtyä. Tässä toisen retriittineuleen langat: 100% merinoa Wollmeiselta, väreissä Petit Poison nr 5 ja Maus Alt.

I did not spin or take part in the workshops, everything else I did. Here's the colours of one of the two retreat knits I brought with me. The yarn is 100% merino from Wollmeise in colours Petit Poison nr 5 wd and Maus Alt.

Tässä toinen, Rhombus-sukat äidille. Lankana taas Wollmeise, nyt sukkalankasekoitusta, twiniä, värissä Türkis. Aloitukseen keksin kolmannen version ja tämäkin näyttää hyvältä.

This is the other and yarn is Wollmeise also but this time in twin and the colour is Türkis. The pattern is my own, Rhombus, and these will be for my Mom. I came up with a third version for the beginning and it looks good also.

Näin aika paljon erilaisia Reinoja sekä sisä- että ulkokenkinä ja mietin että sellaiset olisivat aika kätevät sisäkengät. Itselläni oli sisällä pelkät villasukat ja välillä tuntui pientä kylmyyttä jaloissa kun jostain veti. Ehkä vaaleansini-ruskeat olisivat kivat...



I saw a lot of Reino-shoes used both as outdoor and indoor wear (not at the same time of course) and I started thinking that maybe I should get a pair too. I used only woollen socks indoors and sometimes my feet felt a bit cold when there was a draft. I'm thinking maybe the ones with light blue and brown...

Lankakirpputorille en vienyt tälläkään kertaa myytävää enkä sieltä mitään ostanut, mutta muuten tuli ostoksia tehtyä. Tuulialla oli jokunen laatikko värjättyjä kuitutuotteita tarjolla ja pituudesta oli hyötyä tällä kertaa kun neulojalauma parveili myyntipöydän ympärillä. Ostinpa sitten silkkinessuja paketin. En edelleenkään kehrää, mutta näitä voi neuloa ihan suoraankin, sain opastusta. Ja ovat kuulemma nyt niin kovin muodikkaita joten kerrankin olen trendikäs.
Ai mitäkö niistä meinasin tehdä? Jonkun huivin varmaankin.

I did not take any yarn to the "for sale" table this time either nor did I pick anything up from there. However, I did buy some stuff. Tuulia had a box or three of her own dyeings for sale. My height was an advantage when a horde of knitters swarmed around the offerings. I picked up a packet of silk hankies. I still do not spin but I was told I could knit them straight from the hankies (I got a demonstration). And I was told they are also very in at the moment. It seems as though I'm very "in the moment" for once. Oh, what am I going to do with them? Probably a scarf.

Ikävästi sattui taas kellojen siirto retriittiviikonloppuun. Asiaa auttoi kyllä hieman se että emme huonekaverin kanssa menneet aamiaiselle kumpanakaan aamuna vaan nukuimme hieman pidempään. Olo on tällä hetkellä kyllä hieman vetämätön mokoman ajansiirtelypelleilyn vuoksi, mutta eiköhän se siitä tasaannu viimeistään ensi viikonloppuna.

Unfortunately the summer time time-shift happened during the retreat. It was not so bad this time since neither me nor my roommate went to breakfast on either morning but slept instead. I'm feeling a bit extra tired at the moment because of the whole time-stuff but I think I'll get back to normal during the weekend at the latest.

I bring you...fir... eh, Wollmeise

Parissa Wollmeise-päivityksessä on onnistanut ja tässä tulos. Vasemmalta oikealle: Dunkle Kirsch, Türkis ja Wasabi. Kirsikkaista on kaksi ja niistä tulee liivi, turkoosin ja vihreän kohtalo on vielä ratkaisematta.

I've been lucky in two Wollmeise-updates and here's the result. From left to right: Dunkle Kirsch, Türkis and Wasabi. I have two skeins of the cherry one and they'll become a vest but the fate of the other two is still undetermined.

Yksiväristen lisäksi on myös hieman kirjavampia. Vasemmalla Barist-o ja oikealla Am Kalten Polar. Tuohon pohjoisen kuvaan en ole kovinkaan tyytyväinen, luonnossa siinä on enemmän värejä mutta kun ei tullut parempaa kuvaa niin ei (yritin kyllä). Molempia on useampi vyyhti ja niistä tuleepi huiveja. Tähän tapaan, hauska idea minusta ja hyvä keino saada käsin/pätkävärjätyistä kivaa jälkeä.

In addition to the almost solids I have some with more colours. On the left is Barist-o and on the right Am Kalten Polar. I'm not really happy with the colours on the Polar, for there's more of them in real life. But, since the camera did not want to co-operate (I really tried) it can't be helped. I have more than one of both and they'll become scarves in this style. I think that's a clever idea to get handpainted and variegated yarns to look their best.

Ostoksia - Shopping

Viimeinkin Tallinnanostoksia, eihän siitä ole kuin vähän yli viikko kun siellä kävin. Mutta esitän puolustuksekseni edellisen postauksen viikostani. Karnaluks oli ennallaan ja harvinaista kyllä en ostellut sieltä ihmeemin lankaa vaan keskityin tarvikkeisiin. Mukaan tarttui kolmet pitsiaddit ja Ponyn kalliihkot ruusupuupyöröt kokeeksi. Harmi ettei tuolla ole Addi click-sarjaa, sitä kokeilisin mielelläni. Poimin mukaan myös kasan mustasävyisiä nappeja, pienen virkkuukoukun ja pari huiveihin kelpaavaa hakaneulaa. Hmm, olin mielestäni ottanut myös yhden pienemmän hakaneulan, mutta ehkä se tippui korista matkanvarrelle.

Finally presenting my Tallinn stuff, it's only been, what, a bit over week since I was there. But, I present the previous entry as my reason why. Karnaluks was as it always is and to my surprise I was not that interested in yarn for I concentrated on accessories. I bought three pairs of Addi lace circulars and too one pair of Pony rosewood circulars to try out. I also got some small blackish buttons, a small crochet hook and a couple of pins suitable for shawls. Hmm...I remember taking one smaller one too but maybe it got left behind.

Karnaluksista etenimme Lianniin ja sieltä lähti mukaan viisi kerää Filatura di Crosan Luxury-silkkilankaa, kauniina sinisenä. Tästähän saisi varmaan jonkun hihattimen, eikö?

From Karnaluks we went to Liann and I bought five skeins of Filatura di Crosa's Luxury silk yarn. That's enough for a bolero or something, surely?

Ja pari kerää Alvitan alpakkaa epämääräisenä sinertävänä. Jos näistä ja kotona olevista erinäisistä samanpaksuisista alpakoista saisi aikaan talvipuseron.

And a couple of balls of Alvita's Alpaka yarn in a bluish shade. I'm planning to use these with the alpacas I have at home to make some kind of sweater for winter.

Pronksi lõngapood on muuttanut Viru-kadulle, Lindexin alakertaan kellariin (mutta on vielä samanniminen). Siellä on paljon kartiolankoja ja vietimmekin tovin niiden äärellä. Mukaan lähti kuitenkin vain vyyhti vironvillaa pitsivahvuisena, kauniina turkoosina. Joka tietenkään ei kuvassa toistu niin kirkkaana kuin luonnossa.

Pronksi lõngapood has moved to Viru-street, in the basement below Lindex (but is still called the same). They had lots of different cone yarns and we spent a while fondling them. But in the end I just got a skein of lace-weight Estonian wool in lovely turquoise. Which of course does not look nearly as vibrant in the photo as it does in real life.

Siinä Tallinnanostokset, mutta sain vielä oravannahkakaupoista (sulle cadenza-neuletakki, mulle lankaa) Colinetten purppuran sekapakkauksen. Siinä sitä nyt on, kilo violetteja lankoja. Onneksi mukana ei ole mitään kauhean vastenmielistä, vaikka en karvaisten mohairien suurin ystävä olekaan, niin niitä on sen verran vähän että kyllä ne puikoille pääsevät. Näistä tulee todennäköisesti joku jakkuTine Solheimin Leikkiä langoilla-kirjan tyyliin.

Those were my Tallinn purchases, but I still got more yarn. Since my cadenza-cardi came out too big I gave it to a fellow knitter and got these in return: a Colinette creative pack in purple. There it is in all its kilo gorgousness. Luckily there weren't any icky yarns though I'm not a fan of overly furry mohair yarns there were so little of them that they will surely manage to get knitted. These will probably become a cardi in the style of Tine Solheim's Maskeball.

Se on ohi se - It is over now

Loma siis ja huomenna pitää raahautua taas työpisteen ääreen. Kolme viikkoa kesälomaa tuli vietettyä ja hyvin kyllä pääsi työasioista eroon. Huomenna sen sitten näkee että kuinka hyvin, eli vieläkö muistuu tietokoneen salasana mieleen. Lomaa jäi vielä viikko syksylle ja pekkaspäiviäkin on jäljellä ihan mukavasti, että ei tässä tarvitse vielä surkutella.

The holiday that is and tomorrow it's back to the office. Three weeks of summer holiday went quite fast but I managed to get my mind off work just fine. How fine, that I'll find out tomorrow, meaning whether I still remember the password to my computer or not. I have one week of holiday left for autumn and I still have plenty of extra days (my work day is longer than normal so I get one extra day off per month) so I won't have to worry.

Lomanaikaisista käsityösaavutuksista on tullut Hello Kitty (ja hänen lukuisat asusteensa) ja Lentävä Spaghettihirviö esiteltyä, mutta on sitä muutakin tullut tehtyä. Ostin taannoin Anttilan poistosta purkin Dylon käsiväriä, sävy Vivid Turquoise. Purkkia en tullut kuvanneeksi, mutta sellaista todella kunnon eloisaa tummahkoa turkoosia siitä olisi pitänyt tulla. Toki villalle ja silkille lupasivat vaaleampaa, mutta...siis kaivoin keskiharmaata Wanhaa Kunnon Novitan Alpacaa varastoista ja ne pääsivät värikylpyyn. Pettymys oli kyllä pienoinen pesun ja kuivatuksen jälkeen. Eihän harmaasta turkoosia toki saa, sen tiedän, mutta jos laittaa voimakasta turkoosia ja ottaa huomioon että haaleampaa olisi tulos niin en kyllä tällaista odottanut. Kuvassa näkyvä sinisen vivahde on todellisuutta voimakkaampi kun yritin saada sidoslankojen värin oikeaksi. Sekään kun ei mielestäni muistuttanut purkin sävyä yhtään vaikka puuvillaa olikin. No, ei se harmaa nyt enää ihan harmaata ole, vaikkei kyllä oikein mitään muutakaan. Siinä on nyt sellainen sinertävän vihertävä vivahde. Olkoon. Jätän värjäyshommat muille.

Some of my holiday handicrafts I've already shown, like Hello Kitty (and her numerous clothes) and the Flying Spaghetti Monster. But I've done other stuff too. A few weeks ago I bought a box of Dylon hand dye from a local supermarket. The colour was called vivid turquoise and was supposed to dye cotton and linen quite strong shade of turquoise. Of course, wool and silk were said to come out much larger but still...I dug out some old Novita Alpaca in mid grey from my stash. I don't care for that shade of grey since it reminds me of woollen socks that old ladies knit and so I wanted to change the colour. I was more than a bit disappointed after the dye and wash for even though they said the dye result would be lighter in wool I did not expect this. In the photo above the blue tint in the yarn is more than it is in reality for I was trying to get the right shade of the wrap yarns to show. And no, they are not very vivid turquoise either even though they are cotton. The grey is not truly grey anymore, but it has sort of silvery bluish greenish tint to it. Oh, well, I guess I'll leave the yarn dyeing to other people.

Kirjavaihtolankojen taival neuleiksi jatkuu. Casbah on jo neulottu kauluriksi ja nyt on vuorossa Hand Maiden Swiss Mountan Cashmere and Silk (huh, mikä nimi), joka on nimensä mukaisesti kashmiria (65 %) ja silkkiä (35 %) ja niin pehmeää. Törmäsin siitä tehtyyn huiviin, Criss Cross Scarf, ja päätin tehdä sen. Eipä silti, ohje nyt ei mitään ydinfysiikkaa ole, mutta eipä tarvitse kantaa ohjetta mukana. Ja yksinkertainen mallineule sopii pätkävärjättyyn lankaan kuin nenä päähän, lanka pääsee esille mutta saa tehdä jotain hieman joustinneuletta vaativampaa. Tuollainen joka kerroksen mallikuvio on kyllä aika viheliästä jos tiputtaa silmukan, ihan näin kokemuksesta sanottuna.

The story of the book swap yarns continues. Casbah is already knitted and it became a cowl, and now it's time for Hand Maiden Swiss Mountain Cashmere and Silk (whew, what a name). It is, as the name suggests, cashmere (65 %) and silk (35 %) and very, very soft. I ran into this scarf made out of it, Criss Cross Scarf and decided to make it. Not that the pattern itself is any higher math but I don't have to carry any pattern sheets with me. And the simple pattern suits the yarn to a T - the yarn is displayed to its advantage and there's nothing overly fiddly or complicated. Though, I must say, when dealing with patterns that have something happening on all rows, when you drop a stitch it is really a pain to get it back. I know, I've done it.

Lankaa on mennyt jo vähän päälle kerä (minulla on kaksi). Tämä on ollut matka/miittineuleena, mutta kun on käynyt Kotkassa ja useamman tunnin mittaisessa neuletapaamisessa niin onhan se edennyt. Tiistaina se pääsee Leppävaaran tapaamiseen myös. Tylsää neulottavaa, mutta eipä ainakaan mikään häiritse lörpöttelyä. Kyllä tästä talvihuivi tulee ennenkuin huomaankaan. Ai, ja väri on Periwinkle (talvio).

I've knit more than a skein already (I have two). This has been a travel/meet knit but since I've travelled to Kotka and back and spent an afternoon at a knit meet it has progressed nicely. On Tuesday it will go to a local knit meet and will probably be a scarf sooner than I think. Very boring to knit but at least nothing distracts me from talking. Oh, and the colour is Periwinkle.

Aloitin Tomaton joskus toukokuussa innokkaasti. Ja sitten se vähemmän innokkaasti jämähti kun siitä oli kaikesta huolimatta tulossa todella iso. Eilen sitten purin tekeleen ja aloitin uudestaan pienimmän koon silmukkaluvuilla ja tässä ollaan nyt. Tai oikeastaan jo hieman edempänäkin kun neuloin kuvan oton jälkeen tovin. Nyt siitä näyttää tulevan sopivampi. En oikein tiedä vielä laitanko kirjoneuleraidan vai korvaanko sen jollakin pintaneuleella. Jokatapauksessa mitä siihen sitten tuleekin niin ei tule siihen kohtaa kuin ohjeessa vaan hieman alemmaksi. Mutta neulomista häiritsee välineiden huonous. Tätähän sovittelisi välillä kivasti ja minulla on pari pidempää Options-kaapeliakin. Tai on ja on, molemmat ovat viallisia - toisesta lähti metalliholkki heti irti ja toissa on toisen pään kierteet huonot. Hohhoijaa....jonain kauniina päivänä pitäisi tilata pari uutta kaapelia ja jatkopala jostain.

I started Tomato already in May, feeling very eager. But then my eagerness came to a halt when I realized that even though I chose a smaller size it still was coming out way too big. But yesterday I ripped it and began anew, this time with the stitch count from the smallest size. And lo and behold, it seems to be just right. I still haven't decided whether to include the fair isle stripe or replace it with some kind of patterned knit but whatever I will do it won't be where it is on the pattern but a bit lower. I think it's not placed in a very flattering position. But I'm getting a bit of grief from my tools. For this kind of knit is very easy to get to fit since you can try it on as you go. And I have two long cables in my Options set to make it even easier. Or I would if they were ok but they are not. On one cable the metal thingy on the end does not want to stay put and on the other one the threads are not right and the tip doesn't attach properly but keeps on turning. One of these days I'm going to order a few more long cables and a join piece from somewhere.

Lankojakin on tullut hankittua. Marjut toi minulle Juulibugia Turusta (juu, on vielä maksamatta mutta nähdään tiistaina). Kerä on pienempi kuin luulin mutta kaunis sini-ruskea. Sukathan tästä joskus pitäisi vääntää.

I have purchased some yarns too. Marjut brought me a skein of Juulibug from Turku (yes, I've still to pay it but we'll see on Tuesday hopefully). The skein is smaller than I expected but a very nice blue-brown mix. And yes, these will become a pair of socks one of these days.

Ja lisää sarjassamme "jätän värjäykset muille". Satuin olemaan oikeassa paikassa oikeaan aikaan ja sain Markkalankaa. Kotiin tuli kaunista vihreää ja punalilaa. Mitäpä näistä, sukkia vai kaulureita? Aika näyttää...

I was in a right place at the right time and I got some Markkayarn. I got two skeins, one of lovely spring green and other of yummy purple. What shall I make of these, socks or a cowl? Time will tell...

Uusi Ullakin ilmestyi ja minulta on siellä jokunen kirja- ja lanka-arvostelu ja yksi ohje, Herne-pipo. Joo, tiedän ettei vaaleanpunaisesta piposta ole kuvaa, mutta se unohtui...kuvan ottaminen siis. Pipo on jo matkannut muualle.

Verilöyly, tai kun neulojalla keittää pahasti - Carnage, or when a knitter goes bad

Mitä tapahtuu kun laitetaan samaan tilaan mukasiisti vyyhti lankaa ja neuloja? No, jompikumpi siitä selviytyy mutta tällä kertaa se ei ollut se vyyhti, ainakaan kokonaan. Fiskarsit, ja näin siinä sitten kävi. Ei siitä sen enempää.

What happens when you put a mock-nice skein of yarn and a knitter together? Well, one comes out victorious but it was not the skein this time. A pair of scissors and this is what happened. Let's not talk about it again, shall we?

Kaikilla on ilmeisesti oma juttunsa missä he ovat hyviä. No, yksi minun jutuistani on taito saada vaikka kuinka kauniista ja siististä kerästä tai vyyhdistä aikaan hemmetinmoinen sekasotku. Se on nimittäin enemmän sääntö kuin poikkeus että tuhrua tulee jossain vaiheessa - viikonloppuna sekoitin myös täydellisen siistin kerän Hand Maidenin Casbah-lankaa. Sen kyllä sain selviteltyä ihan kiltisti ilman teräaseiden apua. Mutta taipumukseni tietäen olikohan tämä nyt ihan järkevää? Tilasin nimittäin ebaystä Colourmartin off-the-skein langanloppuja, eli jämäeriä kartioilta irrotettuja lankoja, halpoja kyllä. Mutta...saa nähdä mitä näistä jää jäljelle. Tässä on 300 g 100% kashmiria.

It appears that everyone has things that they're good at. Well, one of my things is taking a perfectly fine skein or ball of yarn and making a god-awful mess of it. It is more a rule than a random occurrence that it happens - just last weekend I managed to mess up a perfectly fine skein of Hand Maiden's Casbah. That I managed to untagle too, without resorting to the use of sharp objects. But knowing my affliction I wonder if this was really smart. For I ordered Colourmart's off-the-skein odds and ends from ebay. This is about 300 g's worth of 100 % cashmere.

Se ajaa minut juomaan! - It drives me to drink!

Tänään oli taas yksi niitä päiviä. No niitä, jolloin tekisi mieli kirota viidenteen polveen kaikki sen jälkeläiset joka ikinä keksi opettaa minulle neulomista tai vaihtoehtosesti toimittaa itsensä hoitoon sen vuoksi että ikinä sai päähänsä tehdä mitään langasta. Päivä alkoi ihan tavallisesti...minulla oli koko kämppä itselläni (no, kissaa lukuunottamatta) ja tuijottelin Seasonstorelta tilaamaani pakettia. Sain vihdoinkin lisää mustaa Silanaa, jotta voisin tehdä jotain jo olemassaolevista langoistani ja sitten mukaan hyppäsi jotain muutakin. Punainen kerä on luksussukkalankaa (65% merinovillaa, 15% silkkiä, 16% polyamidia ja 4% kashmiria) ja viininpunainen on Tusshenaa (väri nimeltään - yllätys - tumma viininpunainen, dunkel weinrot).

Today was one of those days. You know, when you want to curse everybody and their uncle for introducing you to the idea of knitting and were seriously thinking of committing yourself for ever having entertained the idea of doing anything with yarn. The day began ordinarily enough. I had the whole flat to myself (well, except for the cat) and I was staring at my box from Seasonstore. I finally managed to get more black Silana so I could do something with the ones I already have and some other stuff too. The red yarn is new luxus sock yarn (65% merino, 15 % silk, 16 % polyamide, 4 % cashmire) and the lovely wine red yarn is Tusshena (funnily enough, called dunkel weinrot, dark bordeaux).

Muut Silanat ovat myös Seasonstorelta peräisin, joku aika sitten tilattuja. Koska mielessä ei ollut mitään erityistä, niin otinpa vain hieman mustaa ja sitten joitain yksittäisiä värejä. Mutta sitten tuli Vogue Knitting-lehden vuoden 2006 juhlanumero. Sieltä malli nimeltään vain 21 (ja numeroltaan myös). VK:n sivut näyttävät olevan alhaalla, joten en saa linkkiä kuvaan, mutta kyseessä on hieman erikoisempi kirjoneule. Muuten sileää mutta toinen hiha ja pala etukappaletta on kirjoneuletta. Onhan se kieltämättä erikoinen, mutta iski minuun kuin 1000 volttia. Ja ohjeeseen sopiva lankakin löytyi, juuri tämä mainittu Silena. Mutta ah, ja voi, sitä ei ollut tarpeeksi. Yksiväristä siis. Ja lanka oli ehditty sopivasti lopettaa tällä välin. Siinä sitten aikani murehdin kurjaa kohtaloani ja mietin muita käyttökohteita langalle kunnes Seasonstoreen ilmestyi lankaa uudestaan myyntiin, ja vielä halvennuksella. Nyt kun sitä siis oli, vihdoinkin, niin eikun töihin. Hommaa helpottamaan muistin että minullahan on neulekone, niin sillähän sujuu nopeasti ainakin sileät osuudet. Kirjoneuleen voisi sitten tehdä käsin, ehkä, tai sitten ei. Kaivelin muutkin langat esille.

The other Silanas are also from Seasonstore, ordered a while ago. But since I did not have anything in mind when I ordered them I just picked some balls of black and a few of the other colours. But then came the Vogue Knitting Holiday 2006 -issue. And the pattern called (and numbered) simply as 21. Their webpages seem to be under construction so I can't link to the photo but it's a bit different kind of fair-isle. Uni-coloured except for one sleeve and a part of the front. It is a bit odd, I'm the first to admit it, but it hit me like 1000 volts. And I had a suitable yarn to make it with too. But, alas, I did not have enough of the main yarn (black in this case) and Lana Grossa had discontinued the yarn already. So I just wallowed in my sorrow and tried to think another uses for the yarn. But then Seasonstore started to sell Silana again - and it was reduced too (last of the stock I think). So now I finally have it. And to make things even more nicer I remembered I had a knitting machine. I could use it to make at least the black pieces with and maybe do the fair-isle by hand. Or not.

Ensimmäinen ongelma - huono muoto. Tällaiset kerät näyttävät kauniilta kaupassa, mutta heti kun tuot ne kotiin niin ongelmat alkavat. Ne päästävät irti järkyttävät määrät lankakieppejä jos niitä edes katsoo vinosti. Ja koska neulekone pitää siisteistä keristä niin kävin töihin lankankerijäni kanssa. Kaikki meni hyvin kunnes se yksi yksilö ilmaantui. Kyllä, valitettavasti. Vietin yli tunnin selvitellen yhdestä kerästä aiheutunutta sotkuvyyhtiä. Ja olin varsin ärtynyt sen jälkeen. Niinpä nautin yhden siiderin. Tosin olisin mielestäni tarvinnut jotain paljon vahvempaa mutta a) minulla ei ollut mitään ja b) tarkoitus oli mennä punttisalille myöhemmin joka ei onnistuisi kohdan a) toteutuessa. Rupesin myös vahvasti inhoamaan langankerijääni. Se näyttää vaativan todella paljon huomiota jotta se ei rupea tekemään omituisia keriä. Mitä se silti teki. Paljon.

First problem - bad shape. That type of ball may look fine, when in the shop, but the minute you get it home it starts to disintegrate. It lets out huge clumps of yarn if you so much as look at it wrong. And since the machine likes neat yarn patties I made out to make them with my yarn winder. It all went just fine until the bad ball appeared. Yes, I spent more than an hour disentangling one ball. And boy, was I seriously peeved after that. So I had a cider to cool my nerves. I felt like I needed something stronger but a) I didn't have any and b) I had hopes of going to the gym later that day and with something stronger that would have been out of the question. I came to seriously dislike the yarn winder in the process too for it seemed to require an awful amount of looking after to keep it making neat balls insted of doing something odd. Which it still did. A lot.

Kun olin vihdoin saanut melkein kaikki langat siivoiksi lankakakkusiksi törmäsin seuraavaan ongelmaan. Koska mustat langat olivat eri tilauksista niin ne myös olivat eri värierää. Joten pidin ne kiltisti omissa laatikoissaan jotta en sekoittaisi niitä. Paitsi sekoitin. Luulin jossain vaiheessa tunkeneeni väärän langan väärään laatikkoon ja vaihdoin sen, mutta en ollut sittenkään. Paitsi nyt se sitten oli. Väärässä laatikossa. Silmä ei ollut avulias tänään joten yritin jopa kameraa avuksi. Kun joskus kamera on tarkempi kuin silmä. Paitsi ei nyt. Mutta joku voisi olettaa että koska en näe mitään eroa kuudessa kerässä niin ei sitä näkyisi neuleessakaan. Mutta se näkyy. Kuitenkin keskellä kappaletta. Mutta sille ei enää voi mitään, jotta olkoon.

After I had finally managed to get nearly all my yarns into neat little yarn cakes I came across another problem. Since the blacks were from two different orders they also came from two different dye lots. So I kept them in separate boxes to keep them separate. Except when I had done almost all of the balls I thought I had placed a wrong one in a wrong box so I switched it. At which point I noticed that I hadn't. But then I had. So now I have a box of six balls one of which is of different dye lot. And I can't figure out which. I even tried taking photos of the box for sometimes the camera can see things the eye can't. But here it didn't. I could assume that since I can't see any difference in the six I have that all would be well. I know better. It'll be visible all right. And in the middle of the piece probably. Not much I can do about it now, though.

Joten aloitin neulomisen. Käytin oranssin kerän tiheys- ja mallitilkkukokeisiin ja päädyin suunnilleen sopiviin asetuksiin ja aloitin neulomisen. Ja onnistuin sekoittamaan vähennykset lisäyksiin ja päädyin purkamaan aloitetun kappaleen. Tässä vaiheessa purkaman lanka päätti sekoittaa itsensä. Tässä vaiheessa, jos minulla olisi ollut ylimääräistä lankaa, olisin heittänyt mokoman kerän parvekkeelta alas ja ottanut seuraavan. Mutta kun ei ollut niin piti sitä selvitellä. Ja se takkuuntui taas. Oli siis aika vaihtaa maisemaa ja päädyin kauppaan. Olisin melelläni mennyt ensin salille mutta tässä vaiheessa oli jo sen verran myöhä että sinne piti mennä. Ja se oli täynnä idiootteja. Niitä, jotka tukkivat koko käytävän poikittaisilla kärryillään. Ja niitä, jotka kun on viattomasti valikoimassa hedelmiä niin parkkeeraavat valtamerilaivan kokoiset lastenvaunut selän taakse niin lähelle että kun kääntyy ympäri niin on vaarassa kompastua niihin. Onneksi en, koska muuten olisi varmasti saanut huudot että pahoinpitelen niiden armasta pilttiä. Tai jotain. Tunti punttisalilla poisti minut aggressioista mainiosti. Niin mainiosti, että kotiintultuani tein puseron etukappaleen valmiiksi. Kunnes huomasin että ostamani avokadot olivat sittenkin liian raakoja enkä saanut ruokaa. Hmph! Juon viiniä nyt. Ja kuka fiksu se oli joka sanoi että neulonta muka rentouttaa?

So I started with my knitting. I used the orange one for swatches and stettled on suitable settings. And got knitting. And managed to mix up decreases with increases and had to rip what I had knitted. At which point the yarn I had ripped managed to get itself all tangled up. Now, if I had yarn to spare I would have chucked the whole damn ball but I didn't. So I triend to untagle it and when it got into another tangle I gave up and went to buy food. I would have preferred to go to the gym first but at this point it was already so late that I had to hit the store first. Which was full of idiots. You know, those that block the whole aisle with their cart sideways. Or those that when you're picking some fruits park their huge suv of a baby carriage behind you so that when you turn you're in danger of falling all over the damn thing? Luckily I didn't, just, or I bet the parents would have yelled at me for attacking their precious baby. Or something. An hour at the gym made me much more mellow. So mellow that I finished the front piece of the sweater. But then I noticed that the avocados I bought were, in fact, too raw and I didn't get any dinner. Bah! Drinking wine now. Whoever thought that knitting is relaxing?

Kesäyön lankaunelma - Midsummer night's yarn dream

Näin juhannuksen kunniaksi onkin hyvä tehdä katsaus uusiin lankoihin ja paljastaa kaikki mitä on jäänyt kertomatta. Ensimmäiseksi esittelen Tallinnasta mukaan tarttuneet ja viime kirjoituksesta unohtuneet ohuet Titan Woolin merinovillat. Tuota mustaa ajattelin Mystery Shawl 3:een (kyllä, liityin siihenkin, pitäisi muistaa nappi lisätä), mutta Midorin kokemuksia luettuani en ole enää ihan varma. Voisihan sitä tietysti sen mallitilkun tekaista ja katsoa sitten.

A good way to honour Midsummer is to have an overwiev of stash-additions that I've forgotten to mention. First, here's the Titan Wool's merino yarn that I got from Tallinn and forgot to post about. I had thought that I'd use the black one for Mystery Shawl 3 (yes, I joined that, must remember to put in the button too). But reading Midori's experiences with the yarn I'm not so sure anymore. I guess I could make the swatch and decide after.

Tässä toinen kandidaatti huivilangaksi. Colourmartin 100% silkkiä. Paksumpaa kuin edellinen ja ah, niin kaunista. Kyllä silkin kiilto on sitten hurmaavaa. Ja viime lauantaisen matkani ansiosta minulla on sopivan värisiä helmiä molempiin lankoihin. Nyt pitää vaan tehdä päätöksiä. Ja mallitilkkuja.

Here's the other possibility for the stole yarn. 100% silk from Colourmart. It's thicker than the merino and so pretty. I do like the shine silk has, it's very elegant. And thanks to my trip last Saturday I have suitable pearls for both yarns. Now I just have to make some decisions and swatches.

Sukkalankavarasto on myös lisääntynyt näillä kolmella kerällä Opalia. Vaikka omakohtaiset kokemukseni Martinan verkkokaupasta eivät olleet turhan mieltäylentäviä, niin osallistuin taas joukkotilaukseen. Se kun on niitä harvoja kauppoja joista saa Addin metallisia sukkapuikkoja pieniä välikokoja. Löytyihän niitä viime viikonloppuna Tallinnastakin, mutta enpä sitä silloin tiennyt kun tilaukseen osallistuin. No, tulivathan ne puikot viimein ja koska on turhaa tilata pelkkiä puikkoja niin nämä päätyivät kavereiksi. Pienin omistamani sukkapuikkosetti on tällä hetkellä 1.25 mm. Hulluuttako? Ehkä.

My sock yarn stash grew with these three balls of Opal yarn. Although my own experiences with Martina's web store were'n too positive, I decided to take part in a group order nonetheless. It happens to be one of the few stores that sell metallic Addi dpn's in small sizes. I did find them from Tallinn also but when this order was being thought of I didn't know about that. But, eventually the order did arrive and I got my needles and these yarns. The smalles set of dpns I currently own is 1.25 mm (0000 for US). Madness? Perhaps.

Sainpa minäkin ensimmäiset Jitterbugini. En hirveästi ihastunut täällä saatavilla oleviin kirjaviin lankoihin, ja sopivan tilaisuuden tullen osallistuin tilaukseen suoraan Colinettelta. Kaipasin niitä lähes yksivärisiä lankoja. Mutta huolimatta innokkaasta photoshoppauksesta vihreän ja violetin yhdistelmä ei tullut kunnolla esille ja olen liian laiska jaksaakseni nyt ottaa uutta kuvaa. Joten katsokaa edellä mainitusta linkistä (ja kuolatkaa). Värit ovat Velvet Olive ja Velvet Billberry. Vihreästä tulee Sockapalooza sukat.

I finally got my first Jitterbugs. I'm not too fond of the variegated colourways they offer here and once a suitable opportunity arose I got mine straight from Colinette. I liked their almost-solid colourways and that's what I got. But despite enthusiastic photoshopping the combination of green and violet proved to be too much and I was too lazy to take another photo in a more suitable setting. So view the forementioned link (and drool). The colours I have are Velvet Olive and Velvet Billberry. The green one will become socks for my Sockapalooza pal.

Ja jotta ei menisi ihan lankapornoksi niin tässä eilisen aleshoppailun tulosta. Omasta jalasta on edelleenkin vaikea ottaa kuvia, mutta eiköhän näistä idea tule selväksi. Näyttääkö malli tutulta?

Vähän kaikkea - A bit of everything

Koska en onnistunut tuomaan Venetsiasta lankaa niin korvasin sen puutteen ostamalla perjantaiselta Tallinnan reissulta nämä kolme kerää. Suosittelen muuten Tallinkin järjestämään Tallinna-kiertoajelua. Ainakin meidän oppaallamme oli hyvin selvät mielipiteet asioista. Parasta viihdettä aikohin.

Because I did not manage to get any yarn from Venice I corrected that mistake by getting these yarns from my trip to Tallinn on Friday. I do recommend the Tallink Tallinn tour, at least our guide had very particular opinions on matters. Best entertainment in a while.

Aloitin myös uutta neuletta vaikka kesken on ties mitä. Mutta tämä on tilaustyö, ja se pitäisi saada valmiiksi kesäkuun loppuun mennessä. Jotta ei tule ihan kiire, niin parempi aloittaa ajoissa. Tehtynä on nyt vajaat puoli metriä, joten ihan hyvin tässä menee. En edelleenkään kyllä pidä mohairlangoista. Mokoma karvaa aivan hirveästi ja paksuilla puikoilla reikäneuleen tekeminen ei sekään ihan miellyttävää ole. Mutta helppoa ainakin.

Even though I have so many things on the needles I still started a new one. But this is for someone else and has to be finished by the end of July so I thought I'd start early to avoid panic. I've finished now a couple of cm short of half a meter so all's well. Mohair is still not one of my favourite yarns since this sheds like crazy. And 9mm needles and holey pattern do not a very happy Niina make. But at least it's easy.

Nysväämistä - Tinkering

Minäkin sitten siirryin betan käyttäjäksi ja pitihän se templaatti tietysti heti päivittää. Päätin pitää saman ulkoasun, kun olen siihen tottunut, mutta tietysti kaikki blogirinkikoodit hävisivät pois. Eli vielä pitää säätää - ja kehyksetkin haluan kuviini. Eli jos tulee haamupäivityksiä seuraavina päivinä, niin ne johtuvat sitten siitä.

I switched over to beta also and of course I had to upgrade the template. I decided to keep the outlook the same since I've gotten used to it and it is quite ok but of course I lost all my blog ring codes. Need to figure out how to put the frames back to my photos too. So some more tinkering is needed and it will probably cause some phantom updates, just so you know.

Yesterday I managed to take some photos while there was still some light outside. So, more of the fair-isle cardi. It looks like the pattern calculations were spot on, it seems to be at the correct height on both the body and sleeve pieces. Right on!

Roguepalmikkoa, se kainalon alle tuleva. Mokoma on taas jäähyllä, kun lievä lämpö on pehmentänyt aivot ja onnistuin lukemaan yhden "at the same time"-kohdan ohi ja nyt pitäisi ehkä purkaa jokunen rivi tai tehdä kikka kolmonen. Ei jaksa...ja kurkkukin on kipeä (valivali).

Rogue cables, this time the one under the sleeves. The darn thing is on hold again since the slight temperature I have managed me to miss one "at the same time"-line and now I should rip three-four rows or think of something else. Too strenuous what with having a sore throat and all (whine).

Mutta lo, uutta lankaa on silti tullut tähänkin taloon. Hotpinkkiä hapsulankaa myöhempää käyttöä varten, lisää Schoppel-Wollen Samosta jotta voin jatkaa huivitusta ja neljä kerää OnLinen Solo-lankaa. Tämä pääsi nyt puikoille ja on muotoutumassa hörhöhuiviksi. Teen kymmenellä silmukalla ja ööö...3.5mm:n puikoilla ja silti jotenkin näyttää kapealta. HHhhhmm....

But lo, there's new yarn in the house. Hot pink eyelash yarn for later designs, more Schoppel-Wolle Samos so I can lengthen the scarfy a bit and four balls of OnLine Solo. That's already on the needles and about to become a frilly scarf. I'm using ten stiches and about 3.5 mm needles and it looks a bit narrow. Hhhhmm....
