Ronnie ja salainen ystävä - Ronnie and Secret Pal

Viimeinkin jotain valmista. Minäkin olen kärsinyt "ääh, en mä viitsi blogata kun mulla ei ole mitään näytettävää"-syndroomasta kuten jossain muussakin blogissa. Minustakin tuntuu siltä että kukaan ei viitsi lukea minun kuvattomia jorinoitani. Voin tietysti olla väärässäkin, mutta nyt on ainakin kuvia. Ronnie on valmis! At last something finished. I've suffered from "nah, I can't be bothered to blog since I don't have anything to show"-syndrome as someone did in some blog too. I also have a feeling that nobody wants to read my pictureless rantings though I might be wrong. But now I have at least pictures. Ronnie is finished! (and the pictures are clickable)

Tekisinkö uudestaan?: No, olen nyt tehnyt kaksi neuletta Jaegerin ohjeilla ja ne ovat mielestäni hyvin kirjoitettuja ja istuvia. En tiedä neulonko Trinityä uudestaan...sitä kun pitää neuloa niin turkasen pienillä puikoilla mutta lopputulos on kyllä kevyt ja miellyttävä. Tätä tulee kyllä pidettyä, tykkään!

Size: With the stitch counts from the size 36 I got a garment sized about 40
Opinion: This was my first time with Trinity and I at least had tremendous difficulties with the gauge. In the ball band they recommend size 4mm needles, but I knit this with 2.5mm needles and still did not get the recommended gauge, that's why the odd sizing. But I do not think this looks too loose.
Would I do this again?: Well, now I've made two knits from Jaeger books and I have to say that they are nicely written and fit nicely too. I don't know if I'll knit Trinity again because I have to knit it with such small needles, but the end result is light and nice. I'll probably wear this a lot, I like it!

Ja salainen ystäväni yllätti iloisesti. Luulin nimittäin että saamani paketti oli se ainoa, siinä kun oli niin paljon lankoja ja kaikkea, mutta sainkin vielä kirjeen. Hyvää vuosipäivää - Happy anniversary

Ei blogilleni (vaikka sekin tulee kohta), vaan meille. Tänään tulee x vuotta kun ollaan oltu kihloissa (eihän sitä moisia lukuja paljasteta...eikös se ole vähän sama kuin kysyisi naiselta ikää?). Noh, juhlan kunniaksi on tarkoitus mennä Lehtovaaraan syömään. Kerran siellä olen käynyt ja palvelu oli silloin ihan mallikasta. Mutta, ehkä me ei näytetäkään nuorilta akateemisesti koulutetuilta?

Not to my blog (although it is soon too) but to us. Today it's been x years since we got engaged (that's one of those numbers that should not be revealed...isn't it a bit like asking how old a woman is?). Well, to celebrate the occasion we're going to Lehtovaara for dinner. I've been there exactly once before and the service was excellent then. But maybe we don't look like young academically educated persons?

Neulerintamalla ei ole tänään tapahtunut mitään, eikä todennäköisesti tapahdukaan. Kun illalliselle meno hieman venyy lentokoneen myöhästymisen vuoksi (täällä sitä töissä vaan istutaan). Mutta sain kyllä vihdoinkin tilaamani Loop-d-Loopinkin. Se oli kuulemma viettänyt ainakin päivän Hannun repussa eikä mulle ollut kerrottu mitään. Ihan yhtä kivalta se näytti kuin aikaisemminkin. Hieman himottaisi se samettilangasta tehty pusero (braided-bodice wench blouse) niinkuin tyyliin "hetiheti, tahtoo!". Mä tarvitsisin jonkun joka näppäisi sormille jos innostun liikaa jostakin kun on keskeneräisiä töitä ja luvattuja aloittamatta. Mutta kun sitä on niin häilyväinen luonne...se on varmaan MTV:n ansiota, se! Ja tähänhän ei mitenkään liity se, että MTV näkyi meillä viimeksi ties milloin enkä ikinä sitä nyt niin tarkasti seurannut...

On the knitting front nothing has happened today and is not likely to. Because the dinner plans were a bit delayed because a delay in flight from Oulu (and here I am still at work). But I did finally get my Loop-d-Loop. It had apparently enjoyed a bit peace and quiet inside Hannu's backpack and I wasn't notified of this. But it looked just as nice as I remembered. I almost feel like knitting the chenille blouse (braided-bodice wench blouse), almost as in "nownow, want!". I could use someone to slap my fingers when I get too excited about knitting something new when I still have unfinished knits and some promised ones need doing also. But I'm so fickle...I guess MTV is to blame! And it has nothing to do about anything that we haven't gotten MTV on our flat for ages and I never did watch it that much...

Sunday - Sunnuntai

Otsikko ei nyt ole laulunsanoja, kun ainoa sunnuntaiaiheinen laulu mikä nyt tuli mieleen on U2:n Sunday, Bloody Sunday ja se ei mielestäni oikein sovi tähän. Siispä pidän otsikon tylsänä, mitä viikonloppu ei suinkaan ollut.

Perjantaina harrastin dragonmelontaa (joukkueemme pääsi finaaliin), katsoin ilotulituskisoja ja söin tex-mex-ruokaa. Lauantaina mentiin Hannun vanhempien mökille (puoli tuntia bussilla) ja siellä tehtiin sitä normaalia, eli syötiin, sienestettiin, saunottiin ja syötiin lisää. Sieniä löytyi ihan kohtalaisesti: tatteja ja kantarelleja pääasiassa. Mustikatkin olivat vielä aika hyviä ja puolukoita olisi ollut todella runsaasti, mutta en pidä niistä. Siispä metsään jäivät. Sunnuntaina tein pikakääntymisen kodin kautta ja painelin Kristelille pelaamaan roolipeliä, elämäni ensimmäistä sellaista (mä olen Slayer, jee!). Se oli ihan hauskaa. Mutta...eikös sitä aina sanota että roolipelaaminen on nörttipoikien hommaa? Mitenkäs tämä nyt sitten menee kun meitä oli siellä kuusi naista...?

The title is not song-related now because the only Sunday-song that came to mind of was U2's Sunday, Bloody Sunday and I think that's not good here. So, I decided to keep the title boring which the weekend surely wasn't.

On Friday I engaged in dragon boat racing (our team got to the finals), watched the fireworks competition and ate tex-mex food. On Saturday we went to Hannu's parents summer place (about half an hour by bus) where we did the normal things: ate, went to hunt mushrooms (they are devious things), went to sauna and ate some more. We did manage to catch a reasonable amount of different kinds of mushrooms: chanterelles and porcini mushrooms mainly. The blueberries were still okay and there were lots of lingonberries but I do not care for them. So we left them in the forest. On Sunday I did a quick pit-stop at home and continued to Kristel's where I took part in my first-ever roleplaying game (I'm the Slayer, yay!). That was fun. But...don't they say that RPG's are what nerd boys play? How do you explain that there were six women...?

Ja kaiken ympäriinsä ryntäilyn lisäksi olen neulonut. Ronnien kaikki osat ovat valmiina ja aloitin niiden ompelua toisiinsa. Lisäksi tein Mystery Shawl-tekeleestä ensimmäisen vihjeen. Mutta koska niistä ei nyt ole kuvia, niin toteutan Annen (5v) toiveen: kuvia Gjestal-vihkosesta.

And after and amongst all that running around I have managed to knit too. The pieces of Ronnie are finished and I've started the sewing together part. Also I did the first clue of the Mystery Shawl. But because I do not have any pictures of them now I'll fulfill a request Anne (5 years) made: pictures from the Gjestal-leaflet.

Well I'll be... - No jopas...

Toissapäivänä oli postiljooni yrittänyt tuoda pakettia kotiin mutta kukaan ei ollut halukas vastaanottamaan sitä (kyllä kissan pitäisi pystyä hoitamaan moisia pieniä hommia). Siispä haetutin sen tänään postista. Olin noin 100.1%:sen varma että paketista putkahtaisi jo ammoin tilaamani Loop-d-Loop-kirja. Suuripa olikin hämmästykseni kun paketti paljastui kullanväriseksi, pehmeäksi ja pitkulaiseksi. Ja kun ei tiedossani ollut että ko. kirjasta olisi mitään pehmopainosta otettu, niin mysteeri oli valmis.

The day before yesterday the postperson had tried to deliver a package but nobody was willing to receive it here (I really do think the cat should be able to handle small matters such as that). So I had somebody to get it for me from the post-office. I was about 100.1% sure that what I would find in said package would be the Loop-d-Loop-book I ordered ages ago. Great was my surprise when I discovered that the package turned out to be gold-coloured, soft and narrow. And since I wasn't aware that they had published any soft-version of the book the mystery was ready.

Tämmöistä sieltä löytyi: Gjestalin ohjelehtinen (nättejä kirjoneuleita), kolme kerää Juvel-lankaa eri sinisen sävyissä ja yksi kerä kirjavaa Sisu-lankaa. Ja tämän minulle toimitti Line Norjasta. Kiitoksia Linelle!

And this is what I found: A Gjestal pattern leaflet (pretty far-isle patterns), three balls of Juvel yarn in different shades of blue and a ball of multicoloured Sisu. This came from Line from Norway. Thanks a lot, Line!

Kyseessähän oli siis NHV3 (Nordisk Hemmelig Venn). Mutta mysteeriksi asian tekee se, että luulin jääneeni pois koko hommasta, tai ainakin ensimmäiseltä kierrokselta ihan vaan yksinkertaisen erheen vuoksi. Nytpä minulla ei ole ketään jolle lähettää pakettia. Hmm....toivottavasti asia selviää.

What we have here is NHV3 (Nordic Secret Friend). But what makes it a mystery is that I thought I did not get on, at least on the first round because of a simple mistake. Now I don't have anyone to send a packet to. I sure hope we'll get this mix-up cleared soon.

Sulle luvannut en ruusutarhaa - I never promised you a rose garden

Mutta lupasin kuvia San Franciscon langoista. Eli nyt langat jonoon ja esittelyyn!

But I did promise you some pictures of the yarns I brought back from San Francisco. So, let's get on with the show!

Nämä kaunokaiset odottivat minua jo hotellissa kun sinne saavuin: Knitpicksin Shimmer-lankaa, väreinä Flower Garden ja Turquoise Splendor. Ah, niin ihanan pehmeää ja kauniit värit. Lisänä vielä himmeää kiiltoa. En tiedä mitä näistä vielä tulee, mutta jonkinlaista huivia/shaalia on mielessä. Punaista lankaa on kolme kerää ja sinistä neljä. Eiköhän niistä saa jotain aikaiseksi.

These beauties were waiting for me at the hotel when I got there. And they are Shimmer from Knitpicks in the colourways Flower Garden and Turquoise Splendor. Ah, so soft and lovely colours. And as a plus there's a shoft shine to it. I do not yet know what to make of them but some kind of scarf/shawl I think. I have three skeins of the red yarn and four skeins of the blue. Should be enough for whatever I think of.

Seuraavana Artfibersista ostettua lankaa. Valittelen punaisen outoa sävyä mutta oli pakko käyttää salamaa kun Hanan värit eivät muuten onnistuneet tarttumaan muistikortille. Eli vasemmalla on siis Hana, 100% silkkiä, myöskin ihanan tuntuista ja kiiltävää. Tätä en raaskinut ostaa kuin kaksi kerää (se maksoi $14.25/50g) eli huivi taitaa tälläkin olla tulevaisuudessa. Oikealla on nimetön puuvilla/alpakkasekoitelanka. Nimettömyys johtui siitä että ostin sen takahuoneen 2-laatua -hyllyltä. Luulen kuitenkin että kyseessä on Paco, koska tuo väri Rhododendron on juurikin tämän värinen. En kyllä tiedä mikä langassa on vikana kun ei se minusta mitenkään vialliselta vaikuta. Tästä voisi tulla joku neuletakki palmikoilla.

Next is the yarns I got from Artfibers. I'm sorry for the oddness of the red yarn. I had to use a flashlight because the colours of the Hana were difficult to catch on to the memory card without it. So on the left we have Hana, 100% silk yarn, also very soft and with a nice shine. This I got only two balls because of the price ($14.25/50g) so I see a scarf in its future also. On the right is a no-name cotton/alpaca blend yarn. It's nameless because I got it from the backroom (discount yarns) and something went wrong when making it. I suspect it might be Paco because the colour Rhododendron looks pretty much similar to this one. I do not know what is wrong with this yarn though because it seems ok to me. But it could become a cardigan with cables or something.

Jorinaa - Rambling

Nyt on jo kolmatta päivää housut märät ja vähän rupeaa kyllästyttämään. Maanantaina kävelin sateessa juna-asemalle ja tänään oli vuorossa bussipysäkki. Sateenvarjosta ei kyllä ollut kauheasti apua, mitä nyt hiukset pysyivät kuivana. Tosin sadetakkikaan ei ole välttämättä voittajan valinta...eipä ole lahkeet ikinä olleet niin märät kuin silloin kun valitsin sadetakin työmatka-asusteeksi. Kaikki sade nimittäin kerääntyi takkiin ja valui siitä sitten iloisesti housuille. Joku sadeteltta se olla pitäisi.

Eilen sitten olin punttisalilla ahkeroimassa ja hikoilemassa. En tiedä aiheuttiko hikoilemisen kova treenaaminen vai se, että siellä oli hirveän huono ilmastointi. Liekö taas ollut mennyt rikki. Eipä kyllä sen puolesta jää vanhaa salia ikävä kun Elixialle vaihdan vuodenvaihteen jälkeen. Mutta piti sitten keskeyttää treenit vähän aikaisemmin kun oli suunnitelma ehtiä postiin viemään SP5:n toista lahjaa. Suunnitelma oli hyvä mutta käytännön toteutus vähän ontui. Juuri kun pääsin ulko-ovelle kuului korviahuumaavaa rymistelyä ja silmien eteen avautui oikein kunnollinen rankkasade! Siis se kuuluisa eilinen ukkoskuuro. Ja arvatkaa kenellä ei ollut sateenvarjoa mukana? Eipä silti, ei siitä moisessa ilmassa varmaan mitään hyötyä olisi ollutkaan. No, odottelin siinä sitten tovin kunnes sade laantui ja lähdin matkaan. Kuivin jaloin en selvinnyt kuitenkaan kun alikulkukäytävissä sadevesiviemärit tulvivat ja ne näyttivät enemmänkin lammikoilta kuin jalkakäytäviltä. Ja se perhanan sadekin alkoi uudestaan. Tästä siis ne toiset märät housut (ja muutkin vaatekappaleet). Enpä ollut mitenkään herttaisella päällä päästessäni kotiin (märkä ja ärtynyt ennemminkin) kun postiinkaan en ehtinyt. Onneksi Hannu oli keittänyt teetä (kun sitä tilasin) ja pääsi lämpimään suihkuun.

Now is the third day that I have wet trousers and it's really starting to get old. On Monday I walked to the train stop in the rain and today it was to the bus stop. The umbrella was really quite useless but at least my hair remained dry. Although a rain-coat is not necessarily the optimum choice either...I've never had more wet trouser legs than the time I decided to wear one when going to work. All the rain collected by the rain-coat pooled together and ran down to get soaked by my pants. I think it should be a some kind of rain-tent to be of use.

Yesterday I was at the gym doing my workout and sweating. I do not know which contributed more to the sweating, the workout or the poor air-conditioning. I guess it broke down again. That's one thing I won't miss when I change to a different gym at the start of the next year. But I had to cut my workout short because I wanted to go to the post-office to mail a second present to my SP5. The plan was a good one but the excecution was lacking. Just as I arrived at the door I was greeted by an ear-shattering noise and quite a rain. It was the famous thunderstorm that disturbed the championship games yesterday. And guess who did not have an umbrella with her? Not that it would have been any use anyway. So I waited in the lobby for a while and decided to leave once the rain had diminished into a drizzle. I did not manage to go far dry-footed though since the drains were overflowing and the underpasses looked more like small lakes than pedestrian walkways. And the darned rain started to pick up its speed also. Here was the second case of wet pant-syndrome. I was feeling less than cheerful once I got home (damp and irritated is what I was) because I did not even get to the post-office in time. But luckily Hannu had made me some tea (I asked for it) and the shower was nice and warm.

Illan kruunasi saapuneen postin lueskelu. Sain jopa kaksi neulelehteä, uuden Rowanin ja Vogue Knittingin. Niitä oli mukava selailla teetä nauttiessa. Paitsi että en ollut kauhean ihastunut tuosta Rowanista. Omituisia vaatteita (kaikenmoisia keeppejä ja huovan oloisia hameita) ja paljon asusteita (minä nyt vaan en pidä hörhökukkasista ja kaulahörhöistä). River kiinnosti, tosin lähinnä sen vuoksi että minulla sattuu olemaan kaksi kerää Kid Silk Hazea ja Eowyn pisti silmään ja miettimään että saisikohan maanantaisesta lahjalangasta jotain. Kuvat nyt olivat Rowanin tapaan nättejä. Muuten pidin enemmän Vogue Knittingin syysnumerosta (kuvia näkee täältä). Siinä oli aika kivoja malleja, varsinkin tuo Colour Theory-osuus kiinnosti ja ne shaalit. Omituisia hörhelöitä löytyi kyllä sieltäkin, mutta ei ihan niin paljon kuin Rowanista. Olen siis Minnan kannalla ja katselenkin vielä sen yhden numeron joka tulee ja jos ei parannusta tule niin teen samoin kuin Nanna...eli vaihdan Rowanit Blissiin.

The top of my evening came when I noticed what had come in the mail that day. I got not one, but two, knitting magazines, the latest Rowan and Vogue Knitting. Those I enjoyed with my tea. Except that I was less than impressed with the latest Rowan. Weird knits (all kinds of capelets and such and skirts that look like blankets) and a lot of accessories (I just don't like fluffy flowers or neck-things). River did catch my eye but mainly because I happen to have two balls of Kid Silk Haze and Eowyn made me wonder if I could make those with my present I got on Monday. Other than those I much preferred the new Vogue Knitting (pictures can be seen here). There were quite nice patterns especially the Colour Theory portion and the shawls. Strange fluffy things were found there also but not quite as much as in Rowan. I'm of the same opinion as Minna and I think I'll see what the other issue is like that I've already paid for but if things do not improve I think I'll switch Rowan to Bliss.

Neulon eilen valmiiksi Ronnien toisen hihan. Tässä vaiheessa tarkkaavaiset lukijat voivat ihmetellä että mitenkä minä nyt tein vain toisen hihan valmiiksi kun neuloin niitä samalla puikolla molempia. Noooo...sitä välillä sattuu että kääntyykin ns. väärään suuntaan ja neuloo vain toista hihaa. Niinpä oli helpompi jatkaa sen toisen neulomista. Vauhti on siis hidastunut, mutta lähinnä sen vuoksi että ei ole ollut aikaa neuloa. Eipä ole tänäänkään kun töitten jälkeen pitäisi mennä harjoittelemaan Dragon-melontaa (taitaa olla minulla jo viides kerta tiedossa) ja saunomaan. Sää nyt ei mitenkään houkuttele soutuharjoitteluun mutta johan sitä tässä on farkut melkein kuivat...

Yesterday I finished the other sleeve of Ronnie. At this point careful readers might wonder how I managed to do that since I was knitting both at the same time and with the same needles. Welllll...sometimes it happens that one turns at the wrong point and ends up knitting only one sleeve. So it was easier to continue with just the one. Ronnie's progress has slowed down considerably but only because I have not had time to knit. And I do not have time to do that today either. I'm going to a Dragon boat practice (I think it's my fifth time to race this year) and then a sauna. The weather does not really tempt me to go on the water but my jeans are almost dry already...

Ankea päivä - Dreary day

Tänään oli ankea päivä. Loma loppui, piti taas liittyä työmatkalaisten joukkoon. Ja siihen sainkin oikein oivan aloituksen: unohdin kuinka surkeat aikataulut kesällä ovat (minun kun pitää mennä kahdella bussilla töihin) ja sain odottaa noin puoli tuntia Mannerheimintiellä toista bussia. Sateessa. Onneksi sentään bussipysäkillä oli katos. Ja ankeus senkun jatkui vaan...unohdin että olin luvannut tavata Tiitin (neulontalistalta) Helsingissä viideltä kaupankäynnin merkeissä enkä tietenkään ottanut lehtiä mukaan töihin. Siis eikun aikaisin töistä kotiin (no, jotain hyvää siis), pikakääntyminen kodin kautta ja taas menoksi. Vettä satoi tässä vaiheessa jo vaakasuoraan ja kävelymatka juna-asemalle aiheutti farkkujen ja kenkien melkoista kastumista. Inhoan märkiä farkkuja! Niistä tulee kylmännihkeät peltipöksyt. Ja farkutko muka mukavat housut, hah!

Today was a dreary day. My holiday ended and I had to join the rank of commuters again. And I got a nice reminder: I forgot how bad the connections are during summertime (I have to take two buses to work) and I had to wait for my next bus for half an hour. In the rain. At least the bus stop had a roof over it. And the dreariness continued...I forgot I had made arrangements to meet Tiiti (from a knitting forum) in Helsinki at five pm in order to perhaps engage in a bit of bargaining and of course I did not have the magazines with me. So I had to leave work early (well, perhaps something good after all) make a pit-stop at home and then continue the race. The rain was pretty much horizontal at this point and the walk to the train stop caused considerable build-up of moisture in the jeans and shoes department. I hate wet jeans! They become cold and clammy armour-like pants. And they call jeans comfortable, hah!

Kaikesta huolimatta löysimme toisemme (pitelin Burda-lehteä kädessä ruusun puuttuessa) ja jokunen lehti ja yksi vanha kirja löysivät uuden kodin. Meillä oli oikein mukava juttutuokio ja sain oikein tuliaisiakin, itsekehrättyä lankaa. Päivän väriläiskä todellakin.

We did manage to find each other (I held a Burda-magazine in my hand instead of a more traditional rose) and a couple of old magazines and a book found a new home. We had quite a nice chat and I even got some presents: some hand-spun yarn. The colourful spot of the day indeed.

Thank you for the birthday wishes for everyone. Even though I did not eat strawberries at that day I did enjoy a couple of glasses of sparkling wine and ate some cloudberry cake. Both were yummy!

Ja nyt kun kamerani ja minä olemme taas samassa osoitteessa niin laitanpa nyt niitä lupaamiani kuvia. Ensiksi salaisen ystäväni lahja. And now that my camera and I are back in the same address here's some photos I promised. First the secret pal-package. In the picture from left to right are Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran and Maya and then the Rowan yarns. The colours came out quite lifelike. Pretty, aren't they?

Seuraavana vuorossa Ronnie ja hihat. Trinityä on mukava neuloa vaikka pitääkin käyttää aivan eläimellisen pieniä puikkoja (taitaa olla 2.5mm mulla käytössä) jotta saa nätin näköistä. Lanka on myös aika haurasta, eli ei kestä kauheasti vetämistä vaan katkeaa. Eipä tuosta kyllä ongelmaa neulomisessa ole ollut muuten kuin silloin kun langat takertuvat toisiinsa kiinni. Pitää pysähtyä selvittelemään solmua eikä voi vaan nyiskellä lankaa mielensä mukaan. Efektiväriä raitaan menee todella vähän eli minulle jää melkein täysi kerä pinkkiä lankaa. Hmm....pitäisiköhän käydä ostamassa sille kavereita ja neuloa joku toppi?

Next is Ronnie and the sleeves (sounds like a band, doesn't it?). I like to knit with Trinity even though I have to use too small needles (I think it's 2.5mm for me) to get a nice-looking surface. The yarn is also a bit fragile meaning that if you pull it a bit too much it'll break. Not that that has been a problem while knitting it's just that I have to be a bit careful when the yarns tangle and take time to untangle them and not just pull at the yarn with my usual fashion. The amount of the efect colour is quite small meaning that I'll be left with almost an untouchable ball of pink yarn. Maybe I should go buy it some pals and knit a top or something?

Vuorossa ensi viikolla: ainakin San Fransiscon tuliaisia. Nyt pitääkin laittaa kamat kokoon ja suunnata bussille. Pikkuserkku menee huomenna naimisiin Kotkassa ja suuntaamme siis sinne. Ensi viikonloppuna kyllä en tee mitään muuta kuin löhöän ja neulon!

On next week's episode: at least yarns from San Francisco. Now I have to put my things together and go catch a bus. My second cousin is getting married tomorrow in Kotka and that's where we'll be going. Next weekend I'll do nothing but sit and knit!

Juhlan aihetta - Party time

Muistatteko että sanoin että valokuvia ei tule ennen ensi viikkoa? Noh, valehtelin, hieman vaan. Minun oli tarkoitus laittaa tähän kuva siitä miten Ronnie oli edistynyt ennen lähtöäni ja minkä värin siihen valitsin limenvihreän ja farkunsinisen lisäksi (pinkin) ja kommentoida että miten hyvältä noin oudon kuuloiset värit itseasiassa näyttävätkään yhdessä mutta en löytänyt sitä. Se on varmaan varmassa tallessa Hannun läppärissä USA:ssa. Eipä sitten. Mutta sen voin kertoa että takakappale on valmis ja olen tekemässä hihoja (molempia yhtä aikaa). Ja hyvältä näyttää vieläkin! Itse asiassa paremmalta kuin se takakappaleen alaosa...ehkä se pitää purkaa ja tehdä uudestaan. Ilmeisesti Trinity vaatii vähän totuttelemista että siitä saa kauniinnäköistä pintaa.

Do you remember that I said that there will be no photos before next week? Well, I lied, just a bit. I had meant to put here a photo of how Ronnie had progressed before I left and what colour I picked to go with the lime green and jeans blue (pink) and to comment on how well such strange sounding colours actually go together but then I couldn't find it. I think it's probably sitting safely inside Hannu's laptop in the USA. So I won't then. But I can tell you that the back is finished and that I'm doing the sleeves (both at the same time). And it's still looking good! Actually better than the bottom half of the back piece...maybe I have to rip it and re-knit it. Apparently Trinity takes a bit getting used to to obtain a nice-looking surface.

Ja mitä lankaa nyt sitten sain:

Kuva ensi viikolla, kun saan kameran. Rowanin langoista teen kyllä huivin (hmm...pitäisiköhän minunkin ostaa tuo Scarf Style-kirja kun nyt on kerran huivilankoja moneen huiviin?). Muista en tiedä, mutta nyt vaan ihastelen niitä.

• 1 skein of Debbie Bliss Maya in...well...hard to describe, but the colour is nr. 07
• 3 skeins of Rowan Lightweight DK yarns in lovely autumn colours that go together very well.

I promise to post a picture next week when I have my camera back (and I'm back too). The Rowan yarns will probably become a scarf (hmm...maybe I should buy the Scarf Style book too now that I have lots of yarns for scarves?). I don't know about the others, I'll just fondle them for now.

Suomessa taas - In Finland again

Olo alkaa olla taas jo hieman ihmismäisempi. En normaaliin tapaani saanut nukuttua paluulennolla ollenkaan - tosin ne vieressä alkumatkasta kaksinkäsin votkaa ja mehua kitanneet venäläisen oloiset miehet ehkä vaikuttivat jotenkin siihen - joten eilen meninkin nukkumaan jo yhdeksältä. Noin yksitoista tuntia myöhemmin heräsinkin sitten jo suhteellisen pirteänä. Matkalaukku on jo melkein purettu (sen sisällä olleet tavarat ovat vallanneet eteisen) ja kävin jopa punttisalilla tänään. Jaksoin tehdä melkein koko ohjelman mutta pari laitetta jäi tekemättä kun isot kaapinkokoiset huutavat miehet vähän häiritsivät - tosin kai minäkin huutaisin jos yrittäisin nostaa kyykystä 160 kiloa ja varmaan reväyttäisin lihaksia mielenkiintoisista paikoista näin sivuhuomautuksena. Hieman on vielä "mikä maa, mikä valuutta"-olo varsinkin kun lompakko on vielä täynnä dollarin seteleitä. Mutta eiköhän se siitä.

I'm starting to feel a bit more human again. Following my usual fashion I got no sleep on the plane on the way back - though the two Russian-type men who drank quite a lot of vodka and juice at the start of the journey and sat next to me may have had something to do with that - so last night I got to bed at nine. And woke up about eleven hours later considerably more refreshed. I've almost finished unpacking my suitcase (the things that were inside it have taken the hallway hostage) and I even went to the gym today. I managed to do almost the whole program but I skipped a couple of machines when the closet-sized shouting men got on my nerves - though I guess I'd shout too if I tried to do a squat with 160 kilos and I'd probably sprain or burst something somewhere too. I still have that "what country, what currency"-feeling especially since my wallet is still filled with dollar bills. But I guess it'll get better.

Mutta sitten itse asiaan, eli neulomiseen. Matkalla en neulonut lainkaan, en silmukan silmukkaa. Jätin neulomukset kotiin ja lepuutin sormiani. Eipä silti, ei minulla mitään aikaa neulomiseen olisi ollutkaan. Liikaa tekemistä. Mutta onnistuin käymään yhdessä lankakaupassa. Siis yhdessä ainoassa. Ennen matkaa etsin kyllä lankakauppojen osoitteita ja löytyihän niitä, mutta en sitten viitsinyt tuhlata päivää matkailemalla ympäri kaupunkia ja etsimällä kauppoja. Yritin löytää kaupan nimeltä An Elegant Piece (1404 Irving St) samalla kun kävin Golden Gate-puistossa, mutta ei tuossa osoitteessa mitään lankakauppaa ollut. Ehkä se on sitten muuttanut.

But then to the point itself, namely knitting. I did not knit at all during my trip, not even a knit. I left my knitting at home and gave my fingers a rest. Not that I'd have had any time to knit. Too much to do. But I did manage to go to a yarn store. That is just one. Before my trip I did search for yarn store addresses and I did find plenty but then I did not want to spend a day traveling around the city looking for them. I did try to find a store called An Elegant Piece (1404 Irving St) while I visited Golden Gate Park, but I did not find any such store at that address. Maybe it has moved.

Mutta kauppa jossa kävin on tietysti Artfibers. Mukavasti keskustassa ja bonuksena vielä lankoja joita ei muualta saa. Siellä vietinkin tovin ihastellen lankoja ja neuloin pari koetilkkuakin. Mukaan tarttui kahta lankaa: kaksi kerää Hana-silkkilankaa ihanaa sini-lila-purppura-sekoitusta ja takahuoneen 2-laatulankahyllystä 13 kerää jotain puuvilla/alpakka-sekoitusta. Niissä ei ole lappua, mutta luulisin että kyseessä on Paco koska sen koostumus on sama ja tuo väri 6, rhododendron, näyttää tutulta. Lisäksi kun saavuin San Franciscoon minua odotti Knitpicksin tilaukseni (maksoin pikatoimituksen), eli siis Shimmeriä. Värit ovat kauniit ja lanka tuntuu pehmeältä. Kyllä kannatti!

But the yarn I did go to was of course Artfibers. It has a nice downtown location and as a bonus it has yarns you can not get anywhere else. There I spent a while drooling over the yarns and I did knit a few samples also. I brought with me two yarns: two balls of Hana silk yarn in lovely blue-violet-purple-mix and from the second class quality section in the back room I got 13 balls of some cotton/alpaca blend. They do not have a label on them but I think they might be Paco because the fiber content seems the same and the colour nr 6, rhododendron, looks familiar. Also when I got to San Francisco the Knitpicks order was waiting for me (I did pay for the fast delivery), that is Shimmer. The colours are lovely and the yarn feels so soft. It was worth it!

Ja jos ihmettelette vähäistä kuvatarjontaa niin siihen on syy. Vaikka en jättänyt sydäntäni San Franciscoon jätin sinne kamerani (tarkoituksella). Joten ajankohtaisia kuvia löytyy blogistani vasta kameran palattua tänne. Mutta lähden Ouluun perjantaina, joten eipä tässä paljoa ehdi bloggaillakaan sitä ennen (juu, maailmanvalloitusoperaationi jatkuu). Mutta tässä kuva Golden Gate-sillasta. Tämä on enin mitä siitä näin, mokoma oli sumun peitossa aina kun olisin nähnyt sen lähempää. Mutta ainakin voin sanoa että näin sen.

If you are wondering about the lack of photos in this blog there's a reason for that. Although I didi not leave my heart in San Francisco I left my camera there (intentionally). So up-to-date photos will come back to my blog once the camera gets here. But I'm off to Oulu on Friday so I don't have that much time to blog anyway (yeah, my world-domination plans are progressing). But here's a picture of the Golden Gate bridge. This is the most I saw of it because the darned thing was covered in fog every time I would have had a chance to get a closer look at it. But at least I can say it's there, I've seen it.

Urgh, pakkaus ei suju hyvin...mitä sitä nyt ottaa paikkaan jossa lämpötila voi vaihdella yli +30 asteesta johonkin noin kahteenkymmeneen riippuen paikasta ja kellonajasta? Mutta bloggailu ei välttämättä ole tauolla, määränpäässä on kaikki kodin mukavuudet kuten läppäri ja internetyhteys. Mutta nyt nukkumaan!

Yah, soon I'll be on my way. Today as a matter of fact, later...or earlier, whichever you think is more correct. Ugh, my packing is not going well...what kind of clothes do you take to a place where the temperature can be something from over +30C to something close (or under) +20 depending on the place and the time of the day? But blogging is not necessarily on break since I'll have all the conveniencies of home where I'm going including a laptop and an internet connection. But now to bed!

Lammastelua - Sheepy

Now, I don't normally post twice a day but I felt that I had to. Look what the nice postperson brought to me today f rom my blogpal Mira: a sheep lollipop. Isn't it the cutest thing? Awww...thanks, Mira! It was a nice way to start a day.

Oli pakko! - I had to!

Jaa ja mitähän oli pakko? No tilata tietysti vähän ylimääräistä lankaa. Tilasin Hannulle lankaa San Franciscoon hotelliin, Knitpicks Shimmeriä värejä Turquoise Splendor ja Flower Garden. Ja se ylimääräinen tässä oli juurikin tuo Flower Garden. Kun heillä oli ilmainen toimitus jos tilasi yli 30 taalalla, niin siitä se sitten lähti...

I had to what? Well, order a bit extra yarn of course. I ordered some yarn to Hannu in San Francisco, Knitpicks Shimmer colours Turquoise Splendor and Flower Garden. And the extra yarn here was the Flower Garden. Because they promised a free delivery if the order was more than 30 dollars so what is a girl to do...

Lomaneulontaa - Holiday knitting

Ah, lomalla. Ja kun on lomalla, pitää tietenkin neuloa lomaneuletta. Joten aloitin eilen neuletta Jaegerin Trinity-langasta jota ostin joskus keväällä (kun Menitassa oli sitä tarjouksessa) limenvihreänä ja farkunsinisenä. Alunperin langasta piti tulla Toni kirjasta JB34 mutta kun huomasin sen olevan mallia laatikko ja vielä leveä sellainen, suuntautui katseeni toiseen malliin kirjasta, nimittäin Ronnieen. Nyt vaan tarvitsen vielä sen kolmannen värin...pitää siis käydä Menitassa tässä joku päivä. Enhän minä muuten mutta kun on pakko!

Ah, I'm on holiday. And when on holiday one has to have a holiday knit. So I started to knit a sweater out of Jaeger Trinity which I bought sometime in the spring (when my local LYS had it on reduced introdutory price) in lime green and jeans blue. Originally the yarn was supposed to become Toni from JB34 but once I discovered that it was of the wide and boxy design I started to look at the other patterns, namely Ronnie. Now I have to get the third colour...so I have to visit my LYS again one of these days. Not that I would ever do such a thing but I have to!

Tässä kuva Ronniesta lepäämässä parvekkeella rankan neulontatuokion jälkeen. Lanka ja minä emme kyllä heti päässeet yhteisymmärrykseen. Minulla on (taas) tiheysongelmia. Onko minulle kehittynyt ajan myötä todella löysä käsiala vai mikä mättää? Aikaisemmin pystyin katsomaan suoraan langan vyötteestä suositellun puikkokoon ja neulomaan sillä ja hyvä tuli. Nyt ei kyllä ihan niin käynyt. Puikkokooksi suositellaan neljää milliä ja tavoitetiheys on 22s ja 30krs kymmenellä sentillä. Hah! Minä neulon tällä hetkellä 2.5mm:n puikoilla ja silti pääsin vain 19s ja 30krs:n lukuihin. Ja 2mm:n puikoilla en kyllä neulo. Siispä teen kahta kokoa ajateltua pienempää...

Here's a picture of Ronnie relaxing on the balcony after a busy session of knitting. The yarn and I didn't see eye to eye straight away. I had gauge issues (again). I don't know what has happened, have I developed a really loose hand or what is the matter? It used to be so that I could just look at the recommended needle size and knit with those and everything would go smoothly. Now it didn't go quite like that. The recommended needle size is 4mm and the gauge is 22sts and 30rows in 10 cm. Hah! I'm knitting with 2.5mm needles at the moment and even now my gauge is only 19sts and 30rows. And since I absolutely refuse to knit with 2mm needles I'm knitting with instructions for two sizes smaller that what I want.

Tässä vielä loppukevennykseksi kuva chileistäni. Kissaa en valitettavasti saanut mukaan kokovertailun avuksi, mutta taustalla näkyy parveketuoli. Ehkä siitä saa jotain käsitystä koosta? Näitä on kahta eri tyyppiä samassa ruukussa ja kukkivat kuin hullut.

And here's a picture of my chilies. Unfortunately I did not get the cat in the picture to get an idea of the size but there's a chair in the background. Maybe that'll give you an idea of the size. There's two different kinds here and they bloom like crazy.

Ystäviä vanhoja ja uusia - Friends old and new

Tänään oli taas Helsinki-tapaamisen aika. Meitä olikin heinäkuun lomasesongista huolimatta huimaava määrä, peräti 11 henkeä. Vanhojen tuttujen joukossa oli myös Kristiina ja ulkopaikkakuntalainen Terde. Kristiinaan tutustuinkin jo Tallinnanmatkalla, mutta Terdeen olin tutustunut vain blogin välityksellä. Kiva saada parempi "naama" blogille. Juttua riitti taas mukavasti ja lehtiä ja lankoja hiplattiin oikein urakalla. Marjutin ja Kristelin ihanat langat olisivat kyllä kelvanneet monelle...ja se Marian monivärinen villalanka oli oikein ihq!

Today was the time for a Helsinki meet - again. Even though it is the best holiday season we had managed to get together eleven knitters. Amongst old faces was Kristiina and Terde, an out-of-towner. Kristiina I had already met during our Tallinn trip but Terde I had met previously only through her blog. Nice to put a better "face" to the blog. We chatted a lot and looked at some magazines and fondled yarn. The yarns of Marjut and Kristel could happily have found a better home amongst anyone of us...and that variegated wool yarn that Maria brought was quite splendid!

Selasin tapaamisessa myös Novitan uutta lehteä ja joo-oh...olen vieläkin sitä mieltä että se on tylsä! Lehtiä taisi tulla tämä vuosi, mutta sitten pitää kyllä lopettaa. Ja mikä juttu se on että Novita on "kääntänyt" Stitch'n'Bitch-kirjan ohjeet Novitalangoille sopiviksi. Siis hä? Onko se kirja nyt sitten käännetty suomeksi (mikä sinänsä olisi ihan hyvä juttu) vai ei? Ja miksi siitä pitää tehdä joku Novita-käännös, kysyn mä? Omituista suorastaan. Mutta Interweave knits löysi taas Akateemisesta kirjakaupasta minun luokseni. Eipä siinäkään nyt NIIN ihmeellisiä malleja ollut, mutta se palmikkolukunuttusysteemi (Cabled Shrug) pääsee kyllä toteutuslistalle. Pitäisiköhän minunkin tilata ko. lehti?

I looked at the latest Novita magazine at the meet also and yeah, I'm still of the opinion that it is boring! I think I got the subscription for this year but after that I do have to cancel. And there was some information that Novita had "translated" the Stitch'n'Bitch-book for Novita yarns. What? Have they gone and translated that book to Finnish then (if true that would be a good thing) or not? And why did they feel like they had to make a Novita-translation is all I ask. Peculiar is what I think. But the latest Interweave knits managed to find its way into my home again. Though the patterns in that weren't SO special but the Cabled Shrug will definitely go on the to-do -list. Maybe I shoud order the magazine?

And thanks for the good present suggestions. Maybe I'll go with the stuffed toy+socks/mittens -combo. Nothing more massive than that I do not feel like knitting since I do have yarns waiting to be knitted into a sweater for said princess already.

Virkkausta - Crocheting

Mikä neuleblogi tämä tällainen on...enpä ole neulonut viime aikoina paljoa, mutta virkattua on tullut jonkin verran. Niitä kukkasia ja sitten olen tuhonnut kokoelmaa epämääräisiä puuvillalankoja. Kukkia on nyt 68. Olisi varmaan aika miettiä mitä niistä saa...ai mikä toppi? Ei täällä mitään toppeja tehdä, olen kehittynyt jo topin yläpuolelle!

What kind of a knit blog is this supposed to be...not much knit has happened here but instead I've been crocheting. I've done the before mentioned flowers and trying to get rid of my collection of odd balls of cotton yarns. I have 68 flowers now. I guess it's about time to start thinking about what I can make of them...oh, what top? There's no top-making here, I've evolved beyond the top already!

Mutta jos nyt jotain neulomisesta pitää puhua niin puhutaan sitten vaikka Novitasta. Olen katsellut syksyn lehden malleja (Novitaklubin kautta) ja jaa-ah, eipä kyllä voi muuta sanoa kuin: tylsää! Tylsää, tylsää...tylsää. Mikään ei oikein suoraan pompannut silmille ja sanonut että "Neulo minut!". Enpä taida uusia Novita-lehden tilausta enää, käytän senkin rahan sitten suoraan lankaan.

Ja asiasta viidenteen: minut on kutsuttu ensi viikolla 1-vuotissynttäreille. Siis mitä ostaa lahjaksi yksivuotiaalle??

Sorry, the knit-related talk of this post concerns the Finnish yarn company Novita and its upcoming autumn patterns.

But let's move to another matter: I've been invited to a 1-year birthday next week. So what do I get as a present for a 1-year old??

Lehtiä - Magazines

Eilen tuli ajeltua bussilla ihan kiitettävästi. Ensin töihin Vantaan perukoille (kaksi bussia) ja iltapäivällä töistä Tapiolaan (myöskin kaksi bussia), Tapiolasta lentoasemalle (taas kaksi bussia) ja lentoasemalta Helsingin keskustan kautta kotiin (vieläkin kaksi bussia, matka lentoasemalta keskustaan kesti 40 minuuttia!!). Joskus sitä tuntuu siltä että auto olis kiva...

Yesterday I did a lot of sitting in buses. First I went to work (two buses) and after work I went to Tapiola (two buses also) from there I went to the airport (two buses again) and from the airport to home via the Helsinki center (two buses yet again, the trip from the airport to Helsinki took 40 minutes!!). Sometimes I do feel that a car would be nice...

Mutta mitäkö minä tein lentokentällä? Ei, en mennyt sinne fiilistelemään ja katselemaan lentokoneiden lähtöä ja jännittämään tulevaan San Franciscon matkaa. Kävinpä vaan kahvilassa juomassa kupin teetä ja nautin siinä samalla suklaata...ja mukaan tarttui myös allaolevia lehtiä, Phildaria eri muodoissa. Ennenkuin Suomen neulojat ryntäävät Helsinki-Vantaalle neulelehtien toivossa voisin mainita että näitä ei suinkaan saa sieltä lehtihyllystä, vaan minulla oli treffit Annen kanssa. Hän oli ystävällisesti käynyt hakemassa minulle lajitelman lehtiä ja oli nyt tulossa kesälomalle Suomeen. Ja kuten kunnon neuloja ainakin, hän oli matkan varrella käynyt ryöväämässä Kööpenhaminan lankakaupat tyhjiksi.

But what was I doing at the airport? No, I did not go there to get into the feeling by watching airplanes take off and land and think about my upcoming trip to San Francisco. However, I did go there to drink some tea and eat some chocolate with it...and while there I picked up these Phildar magazines in different styles. And before the Finnish knitters swarm to the airport in hopes of getting foreing knit magazines, I should probably tell that these are not for sale there. I was meeting Anne there. She had kindly promised to look for these for me and she came to Finland for her holidays. And like a good knitter she had gone and emptied the yarn stores of Copenhagen of their wares on her way here.

Minähän olen, 15. pvä heinäkuuta (juuri ostin lentoliput). Mutta täytyykö minun tehdä se kukkajuttu? Onko se pakollista ja mikä kukka sen pitää olla? Hahaa, Artfibers, täältä tullaan!
