Puuhastelua - A Little Bit of This and That

Täällä on vähän puuhasteltu kaikenlaista viimeaikoina.

I've done a little bit of this and that lately. I dug out and old ufo that I made a while ago at the machine knitting class. All the parts are done and I've sewn almost all together but I had some difficulties with the edges. The pattern is such that the wrong side is the right side so the edges roll to the wrong side. I made some strips for the edges but that didn't work so well with the collar so I abandoned that - and the whole knit for a while. Now that the autumn is coming I dug it out again since it's won't take so long before a 3/4-sleeve cashmere sweater is just the thing. So, I ripped the cast-on edge and picked up the stitches on 2 mm needles and knit some rows of stockinette to make it curl on the right side. I will do the same with sleeves but I'm still not sure what to do with the collar.

- -

I've also knitted a pair for the yellow sock. I left out the nupp on this one and I'm thinking of replacing it with a mother of pearl button. I still feel it needs something on the center of the diamond.

- -

Last a practice piece. A friend's bracelets get a lot of use and one gave up the ghost. The wire snapped. So, I practiced wire-wrapping since I haven't done it much and this is what I came up with. It's not perfect but passable and at least this won't break easily. The wire I used was quite thick so twisting it took some work, and tools. It's silver and hematites. I got the beads that were left over and I think I might make one for myself too, for it turned out quite pretty.

Äidille ja tyttärelle - For Mother and Daughter

- -

My blog shows some signs of oddity but since I can still log on I decided to take advantage of that and update. After all, one never knows when the same thing happens that has happened to many but so far I can still comment on blogs and log into my own.

- -

My last knit is still stewing in its own liquids - the Vanish gel helped much but did not make the knit totally unicoloured I'm trying something else now. Hopefully I can get to dye it again tomorrow. But because my knits are a bit blah at the moment I'll show you a couple of pieces of jewellery I made. Last weekend I visited a friend of mine where both the mother and daughter celebrated their birthdays this month. For the daughter I made a necklace using elastic cord and some glass and plastic beads. I even managed to include some heart-shaped glass beads. Pretty and since the little lady was into pricesses that day the necklace got into use straight away.

- -

Kaulakorun kaveriksi päätyi Roomasta ostettu Minni-laukku. Olisi melkein kelvannut itsellekin, hieman isommassa koossa.

With the necklace went a Minnie-bag I found in Rome. I would not have minded one myself if they had offered it in larger size.

- -

Äidille lasihelmiä ja kullanvärisiä makeanveden helmiä solmittuna mustaan keinokuitunauhaan.

And for the mother glass beads and gold-coloured freshwater pearls knotted into a black pearling cord.

- -

The colours are more real in this photo. The glass beads are lovely gold-based tubes with spots of black and colour. The shop called these Picasso beads.

Ehkä seuraavaksi kesäkoru itselle?

Maybe next a summer necklace for me?

Odds and ends

Väri on nimeltään Celeste, sellainen aika haalea vaaleansininen.

I would have updated on Friday, but Blogger was out of order and then I spent the weekend in Eastern Finland. So, update was waiting to happen after I got home, which is now.

On knitting front things have been a bit boring lately. I've knitted a shirt out of browinish grey yarn, so a really boring and unphotogenic piece. Then I've knitted a part of sock or another and slowly calculated, with the help of a swatch, a sweater pattern. The yarn I wanted to use for the pattern is in the photo above, it's Colourmart's 2/9NM fingering weight silk/cotton which I bought in a 300 g cone from ebay a while back. The colour in question is called celeste, a bit wishy-washy sky-blue.

- -

Viikolla otin itseäni niskasta kiinni ja tein laskelmat valmiiksi. Sitten hurautin osat parissa illassa koneella valmiiksi. Tässä etu- ja takaosa kiinitettyinä toisiinsa. Reunat teen käsin, koska palmikkojen kääntäminen koneella on hieman tylsää enkä jaksanut mallitilkustella joustinta.

Odottamassa oleva väri on Dylonin Bahama Blue.

During the week I finally decided to finish the pattern and start knitting. The machine performed nicely and I got the pieces finished in couple of evenings. Here's the front and back pieces sewn together. The edges I will knit by hand for cables from cotton with the machine are not so easy. And besides, I was too lazy to swatch rib. Oh, and I have sleeves too, and I've knitted the edges for those already.

The knitting machine is really handy for stockinette stitch pieces and cone yarns are perfect for then there's not so many ends to weave in. Once finished this knit will get a dye bath to become something that is more "me". The colour waiting is Dylon's Bahama Blue.

- -

Pistelin myös ajankuluksi siimaan helminauhan. Tähän valittiin helmiä yhdessä ystävän 6-vuotiaan tytön kanssa, jolle helminauha piakkoin päätyykin. Kyseiseen helminauhaan vaadittiin kaksi yritystä, kun ensimmäistä päätellessä huomasin että puristushelmet eivät siiman kiinnittämiseen olekaan hyvä idea, sillä siima katkesi ja jouduin aloittamaan homman alusta. Toiseen versioon laitoin sitten vaan solmuja.

I also made long necklace using various beads and transparent fishing-line. The beads used I chose together with a friend's 6-year old daughter, who will be the recipient of this necklace. I had to bead the necklace twice for when I was trying to finish the first one I discovered that fishing line and crimp beads don't mix - I just ended up cutting the wire and had to start again. The next time I just used knots and they worked better.

- -

The pearls used were a bit of a mixed lot. There's two different blue and one lilac glass rondelles, frosted round glass beads, bluish-grey odd-shaped left-over pearls, irregular shaped mother-of-pearl nuggerts, very ugly pearl coins and bluish coloured smallish sea shells. And small transparent glass beads were used in between. The end result is surprisingly nice and will make a nice summer necklace.

I did not measure the necklace but it goes nicely twice around the neck.

Käsitöitä - Handicrafts

Käsityöt ovat olleet kovin sukkapitoisia viimeaikoina. Ensimmäinen Rhombus-sukka on edennyt jo kantapäähän.

My knittings have been quite sock-based lately. The first Rhombus sock is beyond the heel turn already. I'm knittig these with square needles from Kollage. I got my first pair of square needles a while back from New York but they are a bit too short to use with thin sock yarn. So I got a few 18 cm ones and they're much better length. I can't say that I notice any difference in how my knitting looks depending on whether I use square or round dpn's for I knit quite evenly with both.

- -

Toiset sukat ovat hieman värikkäämmästä langasta. Kyseessä on Spunky Eclectic Spunky Speckled-lanka jota sain pari vyyhtiä sukkavaihdossa muinoin. Väri on aika...värikäs.

Onneksi on useampi projekti tekeillä samaan aikaan.

The other pair I have on the needles is of a bit more colourful yarn. The yarn in question is from Spunky Eclectic and is called Spunky Speckled. The colour is called Azted although when I look at it I think more about an explosion in a candy store than about an indian tribe. But, it sure is cheerful.

The first sock is finished and the second stopped here. For I ran out of yarn and have to locate the other skein. However, I have no idea where I put it and haven't been bothered to look yet. So I just knitted the other pair. It's good to have many ongoing projects.

- -

Helmien reiät olivat hieman suurenpuoleisia, joten kokoa suurempi silkki olisi toiminut ehkä hieman paremmin.

I've done something else too. For I wanted to try pearl knotting. So I chose these 10 mm big lapis lazuli stone beads and made this long necklace. As it was my first try my end knots do not look that nice - so no closeup of those. I did not have any suitable glue at had so I used clear nailpoish. It did not work too well and the ends of the silk show a bit. Other than that it looks quite good but I'm somehow still not very pleased with it. I think it's because of the length. I got about 122 cm long necklace with the beads I had and I think I'd prefer a bit longer. So now I'm pondering what to do with it. Maybe I should take it apart and try making another using silver wire and wrapped links. That way I could make it a bit longer.

But, I used two-thread method here and used 0.7 mm thick silk thread. The holes on the beads were a bit on the large side so I think size thicker might have worked a bit better.

- -

I've done some bits and pieces of jewellery during the autumn and winter and since I haven't shown them all I thought I'd make an update just for them. (And as a side note, I decided to go with thinner stripes).

- -

I offered to make a necklace to a friend as a xmas present and I found suitable stone beads at the Tampere fair: these geen-grey-black coin-shaped beads. Unfortunately the girl who was handling the stand didn't know what stone these were so that remains a mystery. I also bought some small round matte onyx beads but I did not manage to get the combination to work and ended up ordering some mixed silver beads and made this.

- -

Kivien välissä on pieniä hopeadonitseja.

There's also some small silver rondelles between the beads. To give some idea of the size, the silver beads are about 8 mm wide. And the colour of the beads was really tricky to get right. In real life they're a bit lighter than in the photos and they have a nice, natural khaki-green colour.

- -

Laitoin koruun hieman erikoiseman lukon. Harmillisesti en ole saanut tätä annettua vieläkään vaikka joulusta on jo tovi. Olemme olleet vuorotellen sairaina joten tapaamisaikaa on ollut hankala sopia. Mutta, Lotta, tällainen siitä nyt sitten tuli.

I don't have that much practice in jewellery making yet, so I did not realize that I should have bought two strings of beads. So I ended up using a couple of not-so-perfect beads to get long enough necklace. Luckily they were just a bit rough on the surface so they don't stand out from the rest of the string that much. I put a bit decorative clasp on it. Unfortunately I haven't manage to gift my friend with the necklace yet even though it's been a while since xmas. We've been ill in turns so it has been impossible to meet. Hopefully we'll manage it soon though.

- -

This next piece started from an existing bracelet a friend of mine got from Barcelona. It was said to be silver with Mallorca beads. The beads had started to show signs of wear after only a couple of months so I offered to change them to stone beads for better wearability. Then one time she was here the bracelet conveniently broke and we moved the project forward. The original plan was to use the rest of the bracelet parts and just change the beads but as I started to put it back together I noticed that the parts that were said to be silver were anything but I didn't want to use them.

- -

Päädyimme vihreään kiveen - New British Columbia jadeen tarkemmin sanottuna (nefriittiä) ja koossa 10 mm.

We ended up using a green stone - New British Columbia jade (nephrite) to be exact in the 10 mm bead size. The stones in the string had a nice moss-green base colour and were a bit different shades - darker and lighter. I chose about same shade beads to the bracelet and ended up using the tubes from the original bracelet for they looked to be ok without any signs of wear or copper colour showing. Who knows, they might even actually be silver. On both sides of the beads I put some silver bali rondelles and used thicker wire than the original had. The bracelet ended up a bit stiffer but it will hopefully withstand wear a bit better.

- -

Because I had plenty of beads left over and green is not really my colour I decided to make a necklace to go with the bracelet. Here I used black 6 mm onyx beads (or they might actually be agate), 2 mm silver beads and the same bali rondelles as in the bracelet. Not too fancy, suitable for every day wear but not too boring either.

- -

A bit afterwards I decided to make a pair of earrings to go with the set too. And what's best, I've seen all of them being worn. I like making gifts when I manage to make something that matches the style and taste of the receiver.

- -

Lahjakorukavalkadi siis tällä kertaa. Pitäisiköhän seuraavaksi tehdä jotain itselle?

- -

Gift jewellery show this time. Maybe I should whip up something for me next time?

Yksi sormus - One ring

Here it is, my two-and-half times ring all polished and pretty in its case. It came out all "plain and simple" mainly due to time constraints. I'm a bit worried that it is a bit...dull, or should I just be pleased with myself and announce that it is classic and elegant.

- -

It's certainly not cute and ladylike, which suits me just fine. It's made out of 2 mm thick silver and the width is about 7 mm. The style is simple, flat, kid of like a piece of pipe, really. Not a bad job as a first ring.

- -

Kurssilla oli kynsilakasta muutakin kuin visuaalista hyötyä.

Nail polish turned out to be useful instead of just decorative.

12.2.11

On se pyöreä sittenkin - Yes, it is round after all

I continued working on my ring last Monday, if you could call the black oval thing a ring. The evening started with an acid bath after which it looked like this. It still doesn't look much like silver but at least it is cleaner. The seam is clearly visible here and the first thing I did was file away the solder remnants.

- -

Sitten hieman vasarointia, sivujen tasaus ja viilailua. Nyt se näyttää enemmän sormukselta jo.

Then some hammering, filing the edges and top and it starts to look more like a ring.

- -

After filing it was time for polishing. And yes, it will be a ring, after all - even though my metal stamping skills need some improvement. I had trouble getting the sides to shine nicely, so I had to file them a bit more. Next time it's more polishing and then - something. Since it is the last time (I missed two classes) I won't have time to do what I had originally planned but I think I might have time to do some decorations if I can think of what to do. On the one hand I like the simplicity of a thick, heavy, shiny ring but on the other hand it would be nice to decorate it with something.

The ring is quite massive, I used 2 mm silver plate and the width of the ring is 7 mm. But I've never been a fan on small, dainty things.

31.1.11

Kaunotar ja hirviö - The beauty and the beast

Today when I left for work it was really beautiful and I was a bit disappointed I only had my cell phone camera for it is not that good. I have to start carrying my digital camera around in my bag again.

- -

I was in a waiting list and managed to get a place in a ring-making class. The class has five sessions but mine started badly: first I had the cold and then work happened. But I managed to get there today and got something done. Here the abused start of a ring is waiting to be soldered.

- -

Here it is after soldering all black and out of shape. You would not believe it was silver by the look of it. Next time I hope to make it a bit more ring-like and shinier.

14.11.10

Hieman blingiä - A bit of bling

I persevered and started the Wool Stretch sweater a second time. Now I'm making a top-down raglan and I almost managed to make it too big this time. But, fortunately, it seems like it will be ok after all. I don't think I could have managed to start it a third time.

- -

Sain niihin vihdoinkin lukot kiinni.

But because my knits are yet again boring and difficult to photograph, I thought I'd show you something else. The jewellery I started on the chain course and finished at home went through some polishing and returned to me a few weeks ago. I finally managed to attach the clasps. The chain is quite massive, about 1.5 cm in width so the clasps are not exactly dainty either. I bought these clasps from the teacher and they remind me of the infinity symbol.

- -

Tästä näkee miten ranneketju asettuu. Painoa sillä on lukkoineen hieman päälle 50 grammaa.

Here you can see how the bracelet looks. It is nice and heavy, about 50 grams in weight, and it lies nicely flat.

- -

Kaulakorukin on mukavan raskas, luokkaa 130 grammaa.

The necklace is also nice and heavy, about 130 grams. I wanted to make a flat chain and this is a perfect type. I like the way it lies nice and flat against the skin and is somehow airy despite its weight. The pieces are not by means perfect, but as first chain things they are quite ok. I might try this again sometime.

The chain is called vertebrae and was made using 1.5 mm sterling silver wire. It has three size rings, 9, 6 and 5 mm. The chain was quick to make but I felt I was always out of some size so the sawing of rings took time.

- -

Näpräsinpä myös korvakorut. Niissä on valmiina ostettuja osia ja hieman lankanpyörittelyä. Mallin on Fusion Beadsin sivuilta, Nocturenelle. Tosin en näytä tässäkään osaavan noudattaa suoraan ohjeita, joten pallossa käytetyt ovat hieman pienempiä, muistaakseni 4 mm ja Cosmic-kristallin tilalle vaihdoin 8 mm biconen. Hauskat heiluvat.

I also made a pair of earrings. They consist of ready-bought parts and a bit of wire wrapping. The instructions are from Fusion Beads' website and the pattern is called Nocturnelle. Though, I seem to be incapable of following instructions on this too, so I had to modify them a bit. The ball is made out of 4 mm bicones instead of 6 mm and instead of Cosmic crystal I used an 8 mm bicone. They are nice and dangly. A bit longer than I normally wear but I liked the model and wanted to make them. I think they will get some wear. Parts either sterling silver or Swarovski crystals. I guess that if one knits with quality yarn one uses quality parts in other crafts too.

- -

One of the reasons I liked those earrings were the little balls dangling on them. I had to try to make them. The dark indigo crystals are a bit difficult to photograph but I hope you get some idea from the photo. I sew the crystals together with beading thread and put the yarn through multiple times to make the balls sturdy. This technique could be used to make christmas ornaments, for example, out of something larger.

Tarvekaluja - Handy tools

- -

When I was at the silver chain course a while ago I did not have enough time to finish my chain or, as it turned out, have enough time to saw enough links to finish I had to come home with some spirals. I firmly intended to get to a shop and buy a saw and some blades as soon as possible so I could finish the chain and use it. Well, I did not get to go for I caught half of a medical textbook - or so I felt. To top that with the fact that I work on the other side of Helsinki-region than the shop I wanted to visit, my work hours/week is a bit more than normal, I'm not an early riser and the shop is only open until four and only on week days the logistics can be a bit of a challenge.

- -

Not that I couldn't get the actual saw frame from plenty of places, but the blade was the problem here. As I gathered they are a bit finer than normally used by carpenters and such. And you need quite fine blades to cut silver rings nicely.

So, last Friday I finally managed to get to the shop before it closed - just. There we, the shop keeper and I, chose the saw frame (no, it does not have to be the deluxe 25 euro model, the cheaper economy one will do nicely, thank you) and I also got a pack of blades and pair of pliers. And then I discovered that they only take cash. I never carry cash. Luckily there was an ATM near the shop so I could take my purchases home.

- -

Then a while spent in repetitive motion and I got myself a whole new pile of silver rings (photo contains only part of them). And I managed to break only one blade while doing it! I was a bit worried for I only bought one pack of saw blades and that was only a gross.

- -

Mies toi minulle eilen jotain kivaa kaupasta.

My husband brought me something nice from the store yesterday. Some girls get flowers, some get...a caliper. I've wanted one for ages, though one of those nifty digital ones. But the darned things are so expensive, the proper ones, so I'll just have to make do with the more basic type.

Syyskuu - sairaskuu - September - sicktember

Syyskuu meni ohi sairastellessa.

September was a real sicktember for me, for I managed to spend six days at work in three weeks. First I had a stomach flu and then tonsillitis. Oh, joy. I managed to knit occasionally, sometimes I was just too feverish and achy to do more than nap on the couch.

Between the diseases I managed to dig out some yarn from my stash. Alvita Silkid, a silk-mohair blend I bought from one of my many trips to Tallinn. I took a liking to a mohair wrap-around cardi I saw in a knitting magazine and I had to have it. I had five skeins in my stash and it should have been enough for the thing, just. But, apparently something ate up more yarn than it should have for I'm now in my fourth (or fifth, not quite sure) ball and I've managed to make both sleeves and I'm about half done with the body. So this equation adds to too little yarn and possibly a trip to Tallinn. Note the matching nail polish.

On the time bd (before deseases) I visited a friend of mine, Zeska, who is organizing a stitch-marker workshop in the upcoming knitting retreat. She wanted to try out the different types with novice marker makers and invited a couple of test subjects over. We had three different types to choose from, but I didn't manage to get the ones with beading wire to behave so I concentrated on the two other types. Meaning the hanging ones that need wire bending and the plain and simple ones with one bead. We soldered the rings closed so they are nicer to use since the yarn can't get inside the stitch marker no matter how thin it is. The three of us managed to make quite a pile of stitch markers. The most of mine are in the photo above, though I think I had still some one-bead markers that I didn't photograph.

And as for the knitting retreat, I won't be going there this autumn. For I managed to completely forget the sign-in even though I had talked about it the previous day. The big day was on a Sunday and I remembered the whole thing on Tuesday. And that, as they say, was that. It is very unlikely that I can get on from a waiting position. But, I have managed to come up with something to do during that weekend an I hope there is another one coming next spring.

Somewhere bd (between diseases) I spent two days, Saturday and Sunday, on a silver chain workshop. I have used to courses where people meet before the actual course day to have an introduction, order supplies and plan what to do. This one, however, did not have such a day mainly because the tools and supplies were available on the course itself. Though that did cut a bit on the actual work time for on Saturday morning I had to think of what to do.

I wanted to do something flat and massive so I chose vertebrae chain. And to make it big and pretty I chose 1.5 mm (14 gauge) silver wire. Unfortunately the teacher had not noticed that she was low on that particular thickness so I had to make it from a thicker wire. And since there is three different ring size in that particular model there was plenty of pulling and sawing to do for I seemed to be out of one of the sizes all the time. Saturday was thus spent mostly on the pulling and sawing business and very little chain got done. On Sunday then I decided that the chain is way pretty and I wanted to make both necklace and bracelet. So, more sawing was in order. And of course I ran out of time. I now have about 30 cm made of the chain and I'm out of rings. I have the material but I need a saw. And the place I now that sells the saw blades closes ridiculously early. But, I have to try to make it there next week for I want to finish this and get to wear it. The chain is by no means perfect, since it's the first one I've ever made, but it will be pretty.

Islantia - Iceland

I had meant to update straight after the Copenhagen piece, but then work happened and I got ill and stuff. The flu lingered for quite a while but now I feel quite well again. I have material for updates but I'll start with the oldest, that is Iceland.

I did not take that much photos while we were there, for the hubby has a proper digital camera with different lenses. I let him take the photos and concentrated more on other things. I had no special shopping plans for Iceland, but it is always nice if I manage to find something local and visit a yarn shop or two. I thought about buying a traditional Icelandic sweater, but after I saw them everywhere I got totally sick of them. And I doubt I would have had much use for such thick sweaters for I am not in the habit of wearing sweaters as outdoor wear. I almost bought this practical sweater/softshell jacket combo, but then I saw this thin merino cardi. It is black and white and practical for office wear also and it is soft. I saw them only on this one store and they said it was their own model. Machine knit, with traditional fair-isle pattern on collar, underside of sleeves and at side seams. A nice idea for a machine knit sweater for sometimes it is difficult to get a whole piece on the needle bed when using thin yarn.

Because my birthday happened conveniently while we were in Iceland, I decided to use the birthday money I got from my Mom and buy myself something nice. And this time something nice was a pair of earrings. As with the sweaters I also got tired of lava stome jewellery. First, very few stated that the stones used were actually from Iceland and second, I just saw too much of them. These I got from a shop called Aurum. I think they're from Heiða-series, even though I couldn't find them on the website.

- -

I went past Nálin many times but it was always closed. However, when I actually made time to go there, this had happened. Apparently the small sign on the shop window that I thought meant some things were on sale, was talking about a moving sale. But, since my Icelandic skills are what they are (or aren't in this case) I did not understand it. So, I did not visit that shop.

- -

Kuka ties. Ostin kuitenkin muutaman kerän pitsihuivilankaa ja parit Addi click-päät ja kaapelisetin. Addin irtopuikkoja olenkin halunnut kokeilla.

Instead I went to Storkurinn - and got service in Finnish. Maybe I look too Finnish, or maybe it was the Marimekko reflector on my bag that gave me away, or maybe I cussed a bit too loud after dropping a few balls of yarn, who knows. But, I got a few balls of lovely dark teal lace yarn and a couple of Addi click tips and some cables. I've wanted to try Addi click needles a while now.

- -

Törmäsin myös seuraavaan opukseen erään kaupan ikkunassa. Liekö tuolla suurta menekkiä Islannissa...

I also came across this book on a shop window. I think it might not have that much need in Iceland...

Prinsessa Leia ja kumppanit - Princess Leia and companions

It has been a bit too hot to knit lately and anyhow all I've been knitting is this scarf that is quite boring and seems to take forever to finish (mainly it has been a knit-meet knit). So, I've made some jewellery instead. Last autumn I bought these large glass foil squares. I bought three bags because I they were pretty and I got them for the price of two. I've been mulling over what to make of them and finally I used them.

- -

Rannekorun pistelin taas kuminauhaan jonka suljin krimppihelmellä. Helmi sujahti näppärästi piiloon lasineliön sisälle, joten liitoskohta jäi kätevästi näkymättömiin.

Sometimes it is nice to wear big jewellery, but I like it to be simple. When I played around with the pieces I was instantly reminded of the necklace, Planetoid Valleys, that princess Leia was wearing on the Star Wars IV-movie. That is why I made this simple but massive necklace.

The necklace is strung on a medium beading wire with 5 mm corrugated sterling silver beads in between. The bracelet is strung on a clear stretch magic cord and closed with a crimp bead. The crimp bead was just the right size to slide into a square so the join is not visible at all when worn.

- -

Tarjouduin tekemään äidille kaulakorun ja kyselin väritoiveita. Sieltä tuli sitten: mustaa, lilaa, jotain semmoista.

I offered to make a necklace for my Mom and I asked what colours she would like, and she answered: black, lilac, and such. Here's black, lilac and such then.

- -

There's some Swarovski bicones in jet, amethyst, fuchsia and black diamond, in 8 and 4 mm. Then there's also some 2 mm sterling silver beads and black glass tube pearls. The tube pearls came from a dress my Mom wore when she was young.

- -

Since I was taking photos, I tried to take a better shot from the mod job I did earlier.

- -

To finish I present you with finished pillow covers. I made these on the last knitting machine class of the spring. They were a pain to make but are really pretty now that they are done. The one in the front has some reindeer-bone buttons that my Mom made.
