Brr!

Now I can for once feel really good about a purchase that felt a bit frivolous when I made it. For I bought earlier this winter a Joutsen down jacket since I got a bit of a discount at a local department store (the model is called Sonia). It is really warm...with a lovely big collar and a proper warm hood. I don't even need a hat when I put it on and I stay warm. The legs tend to freeze a bit but I just have to put some extra padding here. And the reason for my smugness is that this cold front from Siberia came here and now we have -20C and some winds too.

And quess what these are? Other than really ugly that is. And no, I haven't gone totally colour blind nor am I pining for the 80's, something else is going on here.

Ne ovatten ihka ensimmäisiä neulekoneella tehtyjä tilkkuja. Aloitin tänään neulekonekurssin Helsingin työväenopistossa ja nämä sain aikaiseksi. Saavutus!

They are the very first things I've ever done with a knitting machine. I started a knitting machine basics course at a...umm...I really don't know how to translate it, but the name means worker's college (or something like that, basically they offer courses on all kinds of things and the prices are really low because it's subsidized). But in any case it was an accomplishment! And fun too. Now I'm supposed to start thinking about my first project and what I'd like it to be. It can be a sweater or a cardi and there can be even rib and simple colourwork. The teacher decided to teach us also things that are normally meant for an advanced course because she wanted to try something different. Well, she'll get no complaints from me.

I have knitted by hand also. After returning empty handed from a supposed shopping spree on Saturday I realized that the contents of my wardrobe have turned to dull and uninspiring and need some...colour. I started to knit Whisper from Rowan's Calmer Collection using Calmer of course. But the darn thing is again of a colour that refuses to reproduce itself correctly on a memory card in dark so hopefully a better picture next weekend.

joutsen-linkit vaativat vähän viilausta, varmaan kiva takki :-)

Jep joo, Blogger kaatui juuri kun olin postaamassa, joten en tiennyt tuliko mitään ja varsinkaan en päässyt kokeilemaan. Nyt sitä voi sitten korjata :-)

The Whisper is beautiful. Look forward to seeing photos of it. After reading your blog and coming across a pattern for a spiral scarf I went out and purchased some yarn today. In indoor light it is the color of raspberry ice cream and is a mixture of mohair and wool. I also bought circular needles. Have never used those before. Will let you know when I finish.
