Joululahjoja - Chrismas presents

Aina kun luulen keksineeni bloggerin kuvienlisäyslogiikan, se kuitenkin lätkii kuvat haluamassaan järjestyksessä jolla ei yleensä ole mitään tekemistä sen kanssa miten kuvat halusin. Mutta olkoon, tässä postauksessa ajattelin kuitenkin esitellä lahjoiksi tekemiäni kukkaroita, nyt kun ne on jo annettu eteenpäin.

Whenever I think I have figured out the logic how blogger adds photos to a post it decides to add them however it pleases which usually has nothing to do with how I wanted to add them. But whatever, in this post I thought I'd show the frame purses I made as gifts this year, now that they have been given to their recipients.

Ensin kissapusseja kummitytölle ja kummitytön äidille (jätän arvattavaksi mitkä menivät kenellekin).

Sisältä vielä - kaikissa on erilainen sisus. Itse tykästyin kovin tuohon mustasävyiseen kissapussiin ja sellaisen voisin itsellenikin tehdä. Tarvii vain tilata lisää 18 cm kehyksiä, ne kun tuli kaikki käytettyä.

An inside view. All have different linings. I really like the black cat purse and I'm thinking of making one for myself too. I just have to order more 18 cm frames, for I used them all up.

Lisää kissapusseja, tällä kertaa äidille. Tuo pikkupussi on tehty samalla kaavalla kuin edellisen kuvan pieni kissapussi. En oikein saanut niistä kauhean siistejä, se kehykseen kiinnitettävä lerpake tuntuu hieman liian pitkältä ja vaatii jonkinasteista pakkotunkemista että saranakohdasta tulee nätti. Kaavaa pitääkin muokata jos käytän sitä vielä.

More cat purses, this time for my Mom. The small purse is made using the same pattern as the small cat purse in the previous photos. I was not totally happy with the result, for I felt that the part that is attached to the frame is a bit too long and I had to really force it to make the hinge part look nice. I have to remember to modify it a bit if I want to use it again.

Samat sisältä. Pikkupussi on juuri liimattu, joten kehyksessä näkyy vielä liimatahroja, en ole rapsutellut niitä pois. Vaikka käyttämäni liima (Gutermann HT2) onkin hyvää ja pitää hyvin en siltikään pidä siitä. Mokomaa on vaikea annostella ja se ei katkea siististi vaan rihmaantuu ja tahraa jokapaikan. Lisäksi sitä liimaa tuntui tursuavan tuubistani koko ajan.

Same ones from the inside. The small purse has just been glued so there's still glue stains on the frame. Although the glue I used (Gutermann HT2) is good and has a really good grip I still hate it. It is difficult to spread evenly and it is too sticky so it gets stringy and makes a mess. Also my tube seemed to want to spurt out glue all the time even when I did not squeeze it.

Pari lehtipussia ystävälle. Kankaan pohjaväri on kaunis tumma vihreä/petrooli ja malli taisi olla jostain vanhoista tekstiileistä. Tämäkin on sellaista mikä kelpaisi minullekin ja kangasta onkin vielä jäljellä.

A couple of leafy bags for a friend. The base colour of this fabric is sort of dark green/teal and I believe this fabric is modelled after some old textiles. I like this fabric very much also and I still have plenty of this fabric left.

Sisällä on saman sarjan kellanruskeaa pikkukukallista kangasta.

Inside is a light brown fabric with small flowers, from the same series.

Syksyn käsityömessuilta poimin myös mukaan tilkun ufokangasta. Siitä päätin tehdä perinteisen oudon lahjan veljelleni - siis kaikkihan alkoi joskus vuosia sitten kun en keksinyt veljelleni mitään järkevää lahjaa ja ostin jotain outoa. Mietin tovin että mitä sitä miehelle tekisi, kun mieheni mukaan miehet eivät kuulemma tarvi mitään kukkaroita. Ehkä nuo ylläolevat kehyskukkarot eivät nyt niin miehekkäitä olekaan, mutta etteikö miehillä ole mitään tarvetta minkäänlaisille pussukoille? Sitä nyt en ihan usko. Mutta sitten keksin jotain hyödyllistä ja se on tässä.

From the Helsinki handicraft fair this autumn I found a bit of ufo-fabric. I decided to use it to make this year's odd gift for my brother - it all began years ago when I could not think of anything sensible to get for my brother so I chose something odd instead. And it has been my tradition ever since. I spent a while thinking of what to make of it for according to my husband men do not need any purses or such. While I admit that maybe frame purses are not that manly I don't necessarily agree that there's no need for a purse-like thing in a man's life. But then I thought of a perfect thing and it is here.

Ai mikäkö? No silmälasikotelo tietenkin! Käytin suujousia ja runsaasti koviketta. Ehkä hiukan liiankin runsaasti, sillä tuo ei nyt ihan täydellinen ole tuo suukohta, reunoissa on nimittäin hieman liikaa kangasta ja siihen jää pieni rako. Ensimmäiseksi yritelmäksi kuitenkin aika täydellinen.

What is it then? Well, a eyeglass case of course. I used these spring-things for the closure and used plenty of interlinings. Maybe a bit too much for there's a bit of a gap in the mouth because there's a bit too much fabric there. But it does stay closed and does not gape too much. And it's not too bad for a prototype.

Ha!

I made something for myself too.

Box-bagi, semmoinen minne menee suunnilleen sukkaprojekti tai joku muu vastaava pienehkö. Tuolla on nyt sisällä keskeneräinen sukka ja 150 g lankaa.

Joku nyöri vetoavuksi voisi vielä olla vetoketjuun hyvä.

A box-bag, one big enough for a sock project or some other small knit thing. That has inside it a start of a sock and 150 g of yarn.

It needs a bit of cord on the zipper to help with the zipping.

Nyhräämistähän tuossa oli, mutta onnistui se tällaiselta aika taitamattomaltakin ompelijalta. Hieman tuli "oho, eiku"-hetkiä, mutta kyllä niistä selvisi. Nyt kun pääsi alkuun niin eiköhän sitä voisi joskus toisenkin nykertää.

It took some work but was doable, even for a not-so-experienced sewing-machine user. Had a few of "oops, not like this"-moments, but I got over them. Now that I've made one I think I could make another too sometime.

Tässä näyte siitä mitä muuta olen puuhaillut. Tämä(kin) on menossa lahjaksi, mutta koska lahjan saaja ei tätä blogia lue, niin voi esitellä. Kehyskukkaro, 8 cm kehyksellä, eli sellainen hieman pienempi pussukka.

And here's what else I've been doing. This too will end up as a christmas present, but because the person being gifted is not reading this blog I can show it to you. So, I've been making frame purses. Here's one with 8 cm frame so a bit smaller one.

Vuorikin on kuvioitu, sieltä löytyy tassukuvioita. Ensi viikonloppu menee varmasti myös ompelutalkoissa joten neulominen jää hieman vähemmälle. Huivin reunapitsiä kyllä riittää...

The inside is patterned also, with paw print fabric. I probably will continue with sewing next weekend too, so not much progress with knitting happens. Though I guess I will get a little knitting on the shawl edge, for the edging lace, there's lots of it.

Pussittaako? - Is That a Purse in Your Pants or Are You Just Happy to See Me?

Jotain uutta on aina kiva kokeilla ja kävinkin Espoon työväenopiston parilla korukurssilla. Lupaavasti alkanut hopeasepän urani katkesi kuitenkin lyhyeen, kun lähes kaikki kelloseppäopistolla järjestettävät kurssit siirrettiin maanantaipäiviin. Aika epäkäytännöllistä näin toimistotyöntekijällekin, kun se työnantaja mokoma tykkäisi että olisin päivällä töissä enkä korukursseilla.

I always enjoy trying out new crafty things and the latest new thing has been jewelley classes. My promising career as a silver smith was cut short, however, because most of the classes in the most convenient place for me got shifted to Mondays during office hours. Which is not very practical for a white collar worker such as I for the employer prefers that I spend office hours at work and not practicing the fine art of jewellery making.

Jotain muuta sitten piti keksiä ja kahlasin työväenopiston sivuja miettien mitä tekisi. Neulekonekurssilla jatkan totta kai, eli joku lyhyt arki-iltaisin tai viikonloppuisin oleva kurssi oli sitä mitä kaipasin. Valinta tuli tehtyä ja pääsin kurssillekin. Ja sitten ei kuin tarvikkeita ostamaan.

So I had to find something else to try. I'm continuing with the machine knitting classes so something short, some weekday evenings or a weekend or two sounded optimal. I made my choice and managed to get on the class too. After that it was time to shop for supplies.

Valintani osui kehyskukkaro- ja pussukkakurssille, joka oli nyt viikonloppuna lauantaina ja sunnuntaina. Kurssiaikaa oli molempina päivinä 10-16 mutta kaiken tutkiskelun ja pohdiskelun ja hitaan mutta huolellisen ompelun seurauksena valmistui vain kaksi kukkaroa ja yksi pala vetoketjupussukkaa.

Tässä on se elämäni ensimmäinen kehyskukkaro. Kehyksen leveys on 18 cm, päälliskankaana värikkäitä pöllöjä luonnonvaalealla pohjalla, sisällä sininen kiemurakangas (kangaskuvassa valaiden ja pilkkujen välissä). Eihän tuo nyt ihan täydellinen ole - ensin onnistuin laittamaan kehyksen väärin päin, onneksi huomasin sen heti enkä vasta liimautumisen jälkeen. Sitten kehykseen tuli sisäpuolelle lommo, mutta se ei toimintaa haittaa. Kuitenkin se on mielestäni hieno ja mahtava.

My choice was a class for frame and other purses. It was this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, 10-16 on both days. But since I'm quite slow at sewing and there was so much to see and learn I only managed to make two frame purses and one part of a zipper purse.

The above photo is of the first frame purse I've ever made. The frame is 18 cm wide and the fabric on the outside is multicoloured owls on cream. Inside is a turquoise-blue swirly fabric (on the fabric photo between whales and dots). It's nowhere near perfect - I first managed to almost glue the frame on the wrong way round but luckily I noticed it before it had stuck. Then I made a dent on the frame on the inside but it doesn't stop it from working. Still, I think it's just fine and perfect.

Toinen pussukka on viikonlopun aiheeseen sopivaa kellanvihreää hämähäkkikangasta. Sisältä löytyy suunnilleen saman väristä pilkkukangasta. Ylläoleva pussi on tehty nyöritekniikalla ja pussissa ei ole ommeltu varsinaista pohjaa. Tämä taas on tehty hieman eri tavalla, pussitekniikalla, tosin tähänkin tuli nyöriä, hieman ohuempaa, paperinarua, koska käyttämäni kankaat olivat hieman ohuehkoja. Lisäksi tähän tuli pohja. Pussi on tehty myös 18 cm kehykseen ja on suunnilleen saman syvyinen kuin mitä sillä on leveyttä. Tästä pitää vielä litistellä kehyksen reuna, en ehtinyt sitä kurssilla tehdä kun liimaus jäi hieman myöhäiseksi.

The other purse is from a material fitting for this weekend - chartreuse with black spiders. Inside is a polka-dot fabric of about the same colour. The owl purse was made with chord technique and it does not have a bottom as such, just two pieces sewn together. This one is made a bit differently and has a sort of flat bottom. Though, I had to use chord for this one too for the fabrics I used were a bit on the thin side. The purse is also made with 18 cm wide frame and is about as high as it is wide. I still have to flatten the frame for I did not have time to do that on the class for I wanted to let the glu time to dry properly.

Kotitöiksi jäi kehyksen littaamisen lisäksi loppujen vetoketjupussukan osien ompeleminen - en viitsinyt laittaa siitä keskeneräisestä kuvaa. Lisäksi kehyskukkaroita voin tehdä vielä pari, pienemmät 8 cm kehykset jäivät ompelematta. Enköhän ne tässä saa tehtyä, sillä pidin näpertelystä eikä se ompelukonekaan niin huonosti käyttäytynyt.

Besides flattening the frame and finishing the rest of the zipper purse (I did not want to put a photo of it here unfinished) I have two more frames as homework. The course included 4 frames, 2 18 cm and 2 8 cm and I still have the smaller ones unused. I think I will make them soonish, for I liked the purse-making and the sewing machine behaved quite nicely, this time.
