Uusia asioita - New things

Ennenkuulumatonta, kaksi blogausta samana päivänä. No, edellinen oli periaatteessa lauantain, vaikka se tälle päivälle venyikin. Syytän kaikkia muita paitsi itseäni, nih!

Mutta päätin käyttää hyväkseni sen kirkkauden mit tuo sateinen ilma suo ja esitellä asioita jotka ovat viime aikoina tänne tulleet. Vaikka pidänkin yllä jonkinlaista langanostolakkoa (kun ei näytä noita valmiita asioitakaan tulevan mitenkään huimaa vauhtia), niin jotain silti aina ilmaantuu. Midori päätyi siihen että hänellä olevat langat olivat liian vihreitä, joten niistä saapui kaksi minulle. Kyseinen lanka on Wollmeisen Twiniä, väri Spice Market. Ehkä hieman yllättävä värivalinta minulle, mutta toisaalta tuo vihreä väri on todella kaunis. Luulen, että näistä tulee Matter and Void-huivi.

Two blog posts out at the same day! That is unheard of. Though, technically, the previous one was Saturday's, even thought it sort of drifted into Sunday. But for that I blame everyone else but me. So there.

But the idea was to take advantage of what little daylight this rainy day gives and show you some new things that have come here. Even though I'm on a some sort of yarn diet (have to, since I don't seem to get anything finished anymore) some yarn has appeared here. Midori decided that some of the yarns she had were too green for her, so I bought two from her. And these two are Wollmeise twin, in colourway Spice Market. Now, this may seem as a surprising choise of colour for me, but I do like that green. I think I'll make Matter and Void out of these.

Ja koska haluan tehdä langoistani muutakin kuin huiveja tai sukkia, ostin hieman yksiväristä Wollmeisea paitaa varten. Viisi kerää tummanruskeaa 100 % superwash merinoa saapui tänne parisen viikkoa sitten, väri on Ebenholz. Näistä tosin riittänee kahteenkin paitaan, ainakin jos toinen on enemmän kirjava.

And since I like to make other things than just scarves or socks out of my yarns, I got some solid Wollmeise too. Five skeins of this dark brown 100 % superwash merino got here a few weeks ago. The colour is Ebenholz. I think I have enough for a couple of sweaters, at least if the other one has more other colours with it.

Äitini ollessa täällä yötä Pariisin matkan yhteydessä ihastui hän hörhelö-huiviini ja tarjouduin tekemään sellaisen hänelle myös. Vihreästä vyyhdistä löytyikin sopivan väristä lankaa, tässä on kahta punaista. Lanka päätyy kohta puikoille, että se on talveksi valmis.

When my Mother stayed here a few nights in connection to our trip to Paris, she liked my frilly scarf and I offered to make one for her too. And I found just the right colour at a lys, one with two shades of red. I should start making this soon so that it's finished in time for winter.

Seuraavana ei lankaa, vaan muuta ostosta. Olen tässä jo jonkin aikaa puolitosissani etsinyt saappaita. Ongelmana on vaan se, että pohkeeni ovat aika hyvin kehittyneet. Parisen vuotta sitten vielä jotain sainkin, mutta innostukseni spinningiin ei ole suinkaan pienentänyt pohkeitani, päinvastoin. Nyt kun pitkät saappaat näyttävät taas olevan muodissa - ainakin niitä on kaupoissa runsaasti - innostuin uudestaan. Huomasin sattumalta että Elloksella oli jotain malleja missä on xl-varret, mutta tuossa parisen kuukautta sitten niistä oli oma kokoni valitettavasti loppu. Eilinen hortoilu parissa kaupassa tuotti tulosta, ja mukaan lähti Riekerin saapikkaat. Ainoa puute noissa on että ne eivät ole nahkaa, kuten halusin, mutta ilmeisesti kaikkea ei voi saada. Erityisesti pidän niissä etuosan nyörityksestä, sillä en halua että nilkan kohdalla on liikaa löysyytta vaan että leveyttä saa vain sinne missä sitä tarvitsee. Mutta sievät ovat muuten.

Next I will not show you yarn, but it is new still. For some time I've been looking for a pair of boots. But my trouble is that my calves are quite well-developed. A few years back I could still find some boots, but then I got into spinning and that hasn't made my calves any smaller, quite the contrary. Now that long boots seem to be in fashion again - at least there's plenty of those in the stores - I got looking again. A couple of months back I noticed that this one web shop had some boots with xl legs but unfortunately they were sold out in my size, I was too late. But yesterday I popped into a couple of shops and came out with these. They are very cute Rieker boots. The only fault I can think of is that they are not leather, as I would have liked, but apparently one can't have everything. I particularly like the front lacing, for then I can adjust the width were I need it. I do have ankles and I do not like too much extra space there. But they are cute.

SP14 viimeinen paketti - SP14 Final Package

Tarkoitus oli päivittää jo aiemmin, tulin koneen ääreen mm. sitä varten. Mutta sitten rupesin kirjoittamaan lanka-arvosteluani Ullaan ja eksyin Ulla-landiaan muutenkin latomaan artikkeleja ja hopsistakeikkaa, kellohan on jo jälkeen yhden. Sen verran virkistyin tuossa Dreamweaverin ja muiden ohjelmien kanssa puuhastaessa että eihän sitä heti vielä voi mennä nukkumaan. Siispä on aika nyt sen päivityksen, mitä yritin jo joskus kuudelta.

Siis, Secret Pal 14 kierros on virallisesti loppunut, paketit piti lähettää syyskuun loppuun mennessä. Itse lahjoin neulojaa Marylandista, blogi ja minun lähettämäni paketit löytyvät täältä. Lokakuu on myöskin pimeä, joten jotta sain kuvia valoisaan aikaan, otin pakettini töihin mukaan. Paketissa oli kaunis sininen pussi.

I had meant to update earlier, that was one of the reasons I took possession of the hubby's pc in the first place (the laptop we use for web-surfing is not that handy for photo processing). But then I started to write my yarn reviews for the upcoming Ulla and got lost in the Ulla-land transferring articles to the pages etc. And lo, what do you know, it's after one am. I got so wired from all the wrestling with Dreamweaver and various other software that I couldn't go straight to bed and so I decided to make that update now, finally.

So, the Secret Pal 14 swap is now officially over, for the last packages were supposed to go out by the end of September. I spoiled a knitter from Maryland, and you can find her blog and the packages I sent here. October is cold but also dark and to succeed in photos I took the package to work. The package contained a lovely blue project bag.

Ja sen sisältä löytyi Knitpicksin pienet puikot, sopivasti paikkaamaan niitä mitkä menivät rikki tässä taannoin, hymynaama-leimasin ja ankka-lappusia. Viimeksimainitut jäivät töihin piristämään päiviä. Hieman toista kuin ne keltaiset perus post-itit joita sieltä löytyy.

And inside I found small Knitpicks needles, just good to replace the ones that got broken a while back, a smiley face stamp and some ducky notes. Those I left at work to brighten my day - a bit of a change from the normal yellow post-it notes we have there.

Ja pari kerää lankaa, uutta tuttavuutta, Jojoland Melody Superwash. Väri on kaunista sini-lilaa ja kahdesta kerästä saanee vaikka jonkinlaisen huivin. Pussissa oli myös pala saippuaa, mutta se ei näyttänyt päässeen kuviin asti.

And a couple of balls of yarn. The yarn is Jojoland Melody superwash, quite new for me but two balls should make a scarf. There was a bar of soap in the bag too, but it was left out of the pictures apparently.

Olen ottanut osaa useampaankin kansainväliseen Salainen Ystävä-vaihtoon aiemmin, ja tämä oli hieman pettymys muiden joukossa. Aiemmin vaihdon blogissa oli listattuna vaihtoon osallistuvat blogit, joita oli mukava käydä katselemassa ihan muuten vaan ja muiden saamista lahjoista sai uusia ideoita itsekin. Tällä kertaa osallistujia oli kuulemma niin vähän, että emännät eivät tuollaista listaa tehneet, mikä oli harmi. Tuon sijaan ehdotettiin postausta Ravelry-foorumiin, mutta koska sitä ei säännöissä esitetty, niin harva teki sitä, mikä oli sääli. En tiedä osallistunko vaihtoon enää, vai katsonko Ravelryn vaihtotarjontaa. Mutta, tämä vaihto on nyt ohi.

I've taken part in Secret Pal swaps before, more than once, but this was a bit of disappointment. I don't mean package-wise, for I liked choosing my packages and the ones I got were superb. But I felt a bit lonely since in previous swaps there was a list of all participants, their blog addresses I mean. And it was so nice to go over other participants' blogs and see what kind of packages they got. I always got some nice ideas for future swaps/packages. But this time there apparently were so few participants that the hosts decided not to do that. Instead some people suggested that people would post on the Ravelry forum when they got a package. But since it was not in the rules, not that many people did that which was a shame. So, I don't know if I'll do another SP swap in the future or if I'll just see what kind of swaps Ravelry has to offer. But, anyway, this swap is done now.

Väriterapiaa - Colour therapy

Tänään oli kyllä niin ankea päivä, sään puolesta siis. Kuka vaihtoi kauniit syksyiset ruskapäivät marraskuun loskaan, kysyn vaan. Saisiko hieman sitä parempaa ilmaa vielä vähäksi aikaa, kiitos.

Ajattelin että esittelisin tässä hieman meneillään olevia neuleita. Tomatosta ei puhuta mitään, se on taas murheenkryyni. Mutta sen sijaan olen neulonut Kim Hargreavesin Nectar-kokoelmasta Joy-neuletakkia. Kuva kyllä hiukan valehtelee, sillä tämän kuvan jälkeen kappale on purettu kerran ja aloitettu alusta. Kuulostaako tutulta? Kun en ihan valinnut samaa lankaa kuin ohjeessa niin rivitiheys heitti aika rankasti, joten vyötärön kavennukset olisivat tulleet ihan väärään kohtaan, niin purin. Suosiolla. Mutta sen jälkeen takakappale on edennyt mallikkaasti. Tosin lieko kovin järkevää tehdä tähän vuodenaikaan puuvillasekoitetakkia vajaamittaisilla hihoilla, se onkin sitten toinen asia, se.

Boy, today was a very gray day here, weatherwise. I'd like to know who changed the sunny, brisk autumn days to this November slush. Could we get the nicer weather back for a bit more, thank you?

But I think it's time to look at my ongoing knits for a change. I won't even mention Tomato, it's being a pain in the you know what again. Instead I'd like to show you the cardi I've been making from Kim Hargreaves' Nectar-collection, Joy. Though I have to say that the photo is not really accurate anymore, for after this I ripped the whole thing and started again. Since I chose a different yarn than what was used in the pattern and despite making a swatch the row gauge is not very close to what it's supposed to be. So the waist decreases would have ended up in the wrong place. I thought it best to just start again...the story of my life with knits lately, it seems. But, anyhow, Calmer is nice to knit and the piece has progressed nicely. Though we could think about the sense in making a cotton-mix cardi that does not even have full length sleeves at this time of the year.

Olen saanut myös ensimmäiset Wollmeise-vyyhtinikin puikoille. Tai neuloille tässä tapauksessa, sillä teen tätä neulekonekurssilla. "Tämä" on siis liivi. Tai siitä tulee liivi, jahka etukappaleen kauluksen toinen puoli ja reunukset on neulottu. En kyllä ole ollenkaan varma riittääkö lanka, mutta toivotaan. Harmi vaan että pääsen jatkamaan vasta ensi viikolla, tällä viikolla työväenopistolla on joku syysloma eikä neulomaan pääse.

I've managed to get my first Wollmeise skeins on the needles. I'm making this at the machine knitting class. And "this" here is a vest, or it will be, once I finish the front piece (one side of the neck) and do the edgings. I'm not at all sure if I have enough yarn to finish it but we'll see. Too bad I have to wait until next week to get back to this for there's some kind of autumn break this week and no classes.

Muodostumassa on yksinkertaista kuviopintaa, lankana Wollmeisen 100% superwash merino väriä Dunkle Kirsche. Täytyy kyllä sanoa että vaikka väri onkin kaunis, lanka ei muuten ole kauhean mukavaa neulottavaa, se nimittäin pöllyää aika kiitettävästi. Neulomissession jälkeen joka paikka oli täynnä kirsikanväristä pölyä ja nukkaa.

I'm making a simple pattern using Wollmeise 100% superwash merino in colour Dunkle Kirsche. I have to say that although the colour is very nice it is not that nice to knit with for it dusts horribly. After a knit session the whole machine was covered in cherry-coloured dust.

Töissä oli joku vihreä toimisto-tietoisku ja koska olin ruokalassa liikkeellä oman mukin kanssa (kuten melkein aina), sain kiitokseksi kaksi vapaalippua Heurekaan. Mukava yllätys.

At work they had some kind of green office info happening and since I was at lunch with my own tea mug (as I almost always am) I got two tickets to Heureka, the Finnish Science Centre. What a nice surprise.

Sateista sunnuntaita - Rainy Sunday

Kalenterista on ehtinyt jo kääntyä lokakuun lehti ja huomasin päivittäneeni viimeksi parisen viikkoa sitten. Vetoan kiireisiin, töissä piti tehdä kaikenlaista ja sitten olin poissa. Ei, en ollut neuleretriitissä, vaikka alunperin sitä suunnittelinkin. Mutta sitten se olikin paljon aiottua myöhemmin ja sattui samaan aikaan äidin syntymäpäivämatkan kanssa.

Olin siis muualla, jossakin missä oli hieman lämpimämpää kuin täällä, ja parempi sääkin. Eipä silti, pidän kuulaista syksypäivistä mutta tämän päivän sadesessiot eivät kyllä paljon mieltä ylentäneet.

I have had to turn over a new page from the calendar and noticed that my last blog entry was from a few weeks ago. I blame work, for I have had to make a thousand things and then I was away. Some 40 Finnish knitters spent a weekend at a knitting retreat but I was not there. I had planned to but then it happened much later than originally planned so it collided with my Mom's birthday trip.

So I was away, somewhere where it was a bit warmer than here. Though, I do like the chilly, sunny autumn days the rainy Sunday we had today was no fun.

Vietin siis pitkää viikonloppua (viisi päivää, neljä yötä) poissa, äitini kanssa, paikassa jossa kävin nyt laskujeni mukaan viidettä kertaa - ja äitini ensimmäistä. Ja yhdeksi kerraksi ei laskettane sitä, jossa saavuin kaupunkiin lentokoneella ja lähdin muutamaa tuntia myöhemmin eteenpäin junalla.

So I spent a long weekend abroad (five days, four nights), with my M0ther, in a city I now visited for the fifth time. And I do not count the one visit where I arrived there by plane and carried on by train a few hours later.

Kiersimme hyvän määrän nähtävyyksiä, jossa melkein kaikissa olin käynyt jo aiemmin kerran tai useammankin. Jotain uuttakin mahtui onneksi mukaan. Eiköhän kohde viimeistään tästä kuvasta jo selviä?

We saw a good number of sights, many of which I've visited on one or more of my earlier visits though there were plenty of new things too. I guess at least the above photo reveals the city at the latest?

Hotelli oli mukavasti La Droguerien lähellä ja sieltä tarttui mukaan kassillinen lankaa. Tarpeeksi neuletakkia varten, nappien ja koristelujen kera. Lanka on kaunista turkoosia 100% villalankaa, joka ei kuvassa tietenkään näytä niin turkoosilta kuin todellisuudessa.

The hotel was nicely situated close to La Droguerie. I bought a bag of yarn there, enough for a cardigan and all the necessary accessories. The yarn is lovely vivid turquoise wool, which does not look nearly as nice on the photo as it does in real life.

Matka oli mukava, molempien mielestä. Huomenna on paluu arkeen, ja töihin. Lomaviikko on ohi.

The trip was very nice, the both of us thought so. Tomorrow it's back to work, the holiday week is over.

Värejä - Colours

Taisin joskus lupailla esitellä valmiita töitäkin, joten niitä nyt. Maailman pehmeimmäksi tituleeratusta langasta neulomani huivi on nyt valmis (kannattaa lukea myös Knitter's Reviewn arvostelu, se on viihdettä). Pienoisia kauhunhetkiäkin koettiin, kun tökkäsin valmiin huivin pesukoneeseen huuhteluun ja linkoukseen. Koneesta kaivamani neule tuntui jotenkin oudolta ja pingoittaessani sitä pelkäsinkin sen hieman vanuttuneen. Onneksi kyseessä oli vain säikähdys ja pingoituksen jälkeen huivi tuntui yhtä ihanalta kuin aiemminkin, se oli vain avautunut ja sileytynyt mukavasti. Tässä se lojuu kaikessa pingoitetussa komeudessaan pöydällä.

I think I promised to show you some finished knits and now I'm going to. The scarf I was making from the yarn said to be one of the softest in the world is finished (read the review in Knitter's Review, it's entertaining). I had a few moments of horror here when I put the finished scarf through the rinse and spin cycle before blocking. For when I pulled the wet scarf from the machine it felt a bit funny and while I was blocking it I was afraid that it had felted a bit. But no, once the thing was dry it was just as soft and wonderful as before. And here it is in all its blocked gorgeousness laying messily on the table.

Ihonväristä viis, mutta kunhan huivin värit ovat kunnossa. Ja tässä kuvassa ne ovat sitä aidoimmillaan. Yritin kuvata huivia kaulassa näyttääkseni kuinka paljon se kasvoi, sillä tämä ei olisi ollut mahdollista ennen pingoitusta, huivin kietominen kaulaan noin siis. Päät olivat aivan liian lyhyet.

Never mind the odd skin colour, as long as the colours of the scarf are accurate. And here they are, as good as I've managed to get them. I tried to take photos of me wearing the scarf to show how much effect the blocking had for this would not have been possible pre-blocking. To wrap the scarf around my neck like that, that is, for the ends would have been way too short.

No, siinä ne, valmiit. Lisäksi tein jotain jota vielä en voi esitellä tässä ja neuloin Tomatoa. Mokoma neule, taitaa olla edessä toinen purkukerta kun kirjoneuleraidasta tuli sittenkin outo. Mallasin sitä rintojen alle, mutta jotenkin paita pussittaa hassusti selkäpuolelta että pitänee purkaa koko raita pois. Mutta se siitä, aloitin uuden miittineuleen: Baktuksen. Messuilta ostetut Zauberballit pääsivät jo puikolle ja raidalliseksi huiviksi. En oikein ole vieläkään varma pidänkö siitä mutta neulon sitä nyt kuitenkin. Alkuosaan tuli harmillinen terävä raita, kun toisen kerän turkoosi vaihtui tummansiniseen todella äkkiä, mutta muuten värit ovat käyttäytyneet aika mallikkaasti.

Well, there they were, finished knits (or that, since there was only one). Then I've knit something I won't reveal yet and done Tomato which I'm afraid I have to rip again (that's number two) for the fair isle stripe is not very nice. I placed it under the bust but it bags funny on the backside and I think I have to rip the whole stripe out. But enough about that, I started an new meet knit: Baktus. The Zauberballs I got at the fair jumped on the needles and this is what I've done so far (and a bit more since the photo was taken a few days ago). I'm still not sure I like the colour combos but I'm knitting it anyway. There is quite a noticeable stripe after the beginning for the turquoise changed to dark blue quite abruptly but after that the colour changes have been much more gradual.

Sitten on tullut tehtyä mm. mallitilkkuja Wollmeisesta ja muusta mutta ei mitään mainittavaa. Ensi kerralla jotain muuta, kenties. Ai, ja blogikin täytti viisi vuotta tässä, ihan huomaamatta. Ei mikään ihan vauva enää.

Then I've done some swatches out of Wollmeise and other stuff but nothing worth mentioning. Maybe something else, next time. Oh, and my blog had its fifth birthday at the beginning of this month and I didn't even notice. It's not a baby anymore.

Messut, messut - The fair, the fair

Kävin kädentaitomessuilla minäkin. Siellä tapasin monta tuttua naamaa, kiitos Jennille kyydistä ja Marjutille ja Satulle kyyti-ja kahvitteluseurasta. Törmäsin moneen tuttuun messuilla, myös työpaikan assistenttiin jonka en edes tiennyt neulovan. Näin sitä oppii uutta.

Ensin vaelsin muiden mukana Titityyn kojulle josta ei löytynyt oikein mitään kivaa. Katselin Shibui Knitsin Merino Alpacaa, mutta totesin sen hieman liian tyyriiksi ostaa ilman mitään aietta. Eli sinne jäi sekin, hyllylle. Lankaostokset aukaisi Poppelin koju ja sen jakit. Shokayn Orient-lankaa lähti mukaan kauniissa taivaansinisessä (Cerulean) kaksi vyyhtiä (75 % jakkia ja 25 % bambua). Huivi, todennäköisesti. Katselin myös saman kehräämön paksumpaa täysjakkilankaa sillä silmällä, mutta värejä oli aika vähän ja valikoiman ainoa kiinnostava oli aika voimakas magentanpunainen, eikä se nyt kiinnostanut tällä kertaa.

I went to the handicraft fair in Helsinki yesterday. I met many familiar faces kthere, tank you Jenni for the ride and Marjut and Satu for the company (among others). I even met the assistant from work and I did not even know that she knits. You learn something new every day.

First I went to the Titityy stand like everyone else but I did not find anything too interesting. I had my eye on Shibui Knits Merino Alpaca, but I thought it was way too expensive to buy just because. I did not have anything in mind and the feel or the colours of it weren't a must, so there it stayed. My yarn purchases started at Poppeli's stand where I got distracted by yak. I bought these two above, Shokay Orient in lovely cerulean blue (75 % yak, 25 % bamboo). They had the thicker all-yak yarn there too, but there were only a few colours and the one that I would have even considered was quite a strong magenta red and I did not feel like getting anything that strong so I got the thinner mix instead. A scarf, probably.

Lankamaailma Nordialla oli Zauberballeja kivasti esillä ja kun Kirsi neuloskeli Espoon neuletapaamisessa taannoin kivaa raita-Baktusta niin ostin kun eteen sattui. Meinaan minäkin Baktuksen näistä. Niin, ostin siis kaksi kerää vaikkei kuvassa näykään kuin yksi. Väri on frische Fische, joka kai myös tropiikkina tai trooppisena kalana tunnetaan.

Yarn shop Nordia had these Zauberballs nicely displayed and since Kirsi was knitting a cute striped Baktus at a Espoo knit meet a while ago I wanted to have one too. And so I got two balls of colour called frische Fische, which I believe is also known as Tropical Fish. These will become a Baktus too to brighten up my black winter coat.

Ennen lähtöä ajauduin taas Titityyn kojulle ja kas kummaa, nyt sieltä löytyikin jotain mukaanotettavaa. Olin jo kaivelemassa mukaan BC Garnin Luccaa (merinovillaa, väri ub 38) villapaitaa varten kivassa turkoosinsinisessä kunnes silmiin osui saman firman Soft Silk (100 % bourrettesilkkiä) niin jäi se kauppaan se toinen. Silkissä kun oli aivan uskomattoman upea tumma, voimakas turkoosinpetroolinsininen - joka ei tietenkään toistu kuvassa niin kauniina. Meinasin jättää mokoman hyllyyn kun sitä oli vain kaksi vyyhtiä, mutta ei se tahtonut sinne jäädä. Kyllähän kahdesta saa vaikka...huivin?

Before I left I drifted over to Titityy's stand again and this time I did see something interesting. I was on the process of picking enough BC Garn Lucca (100% merino wool) for a sweater in this lovely soft turquoise when I spotted Soft Silk from the same company. It had this amazing deep turquoise-teal colour which of course does not look nearly as good in the photo as it is does in person. After that the Lucca was sort of wishy-washy and pale. I nearly didn't buy these either for they only had two skeins to offer. But, in the end my hand didn't want to let them go and so they came home with me. Two skeins is sure enough for, say, a scarf?

Siinäpä ne, ostokset. No, ok, ostin jotain pientä kuten korvakorut, nappeja ja Virkkuukoukkusen heijastimen (jänskempi ku 100 jänistä), mutta en jaksanut kaivella niitä esiin kuvattavaksi.

And that was that, my purchases that is. Well, ok, I did buy something small like a pair of earrings, some buttons and a reflector from Virkkuukoukkunen but I did not have the energy to go digging them out and taking photos.

Värejä - Colours

Kun ei ole neuloja jaksanut käydä ottamassa ulkokuvia päivänvalolla ja sisällä ei mikään näytä hyvältä niin esittelen sitten vaan lankakuvia.

Wollmeisen pitsilankaa, väriä Petit Poison nr. 5. Kauniita erilaisia punalilan sävyjä. Nam. Ja kun lankaakin on noin 300 g niin tästähän saa vaikka mitä.

When a knitter has been too lazy to go outside to take photos of knits and all photos taken indoors are dull, well, what else is there to do but to show yarn photos.

First, some Wollmeise lace. Here's Petit Poison nr. 5. Lovely purple shades. And since there's about 300 g of yarn I can make practically anything out of it.

Lisää pitsi-Wollmeisea. Tällä kertaa värissä Neptun. Se on jokseenkin samanväristä luonnossa kuin kuvassa, paitsi että se on kauniimpaa. Oikeasti siis.

More lace Wollmeise, now in Neptun. It is about the same colour in real life as it is in the photo. Except it is much prettier.

Ja lauma Utunaa. Suurin osa kuvassa näkyvästä on Uhtu-huivilankaa, tosin sivusta poiketen nuo ovat pääasiassa 90 % kainuunharmasta ja 10 % silkkiä. Taisin tyhjentää kauppaa ihan hyvin. Ja ei, nuo eivät ole kaikki minun vaan tuossa on viiden ihmisen yhteistilaus. Itselleni jää loppujen lopuksi vain kaksi vyyhtiä lankaa kun vaihtoon lähtee pari. Kauniita ovat värit, vihreä on hieman lehmuksempaa luonnossa, mutta joissakin vyyhdeissä oli pieniä harmaita kohtia. Ehkä se on sitten vain sitä yksilöllisyyttä.

And a herd of Utuna yarns (on Etsy also). Most of these are Uhtu lace yarn, though they are 90 % wool and 10 % silk, unlike the one on the web page which is 100 % wool. I think I emptied the shop quite a bit. And no, they are not all mine but are in fact an order for five people. I ordered two shades but will end up with only one since I'll be sending the other one to my secret pal.

I think it would be best to promise anything but I'll try to take some knit photos during the weekend. But tomorrow I'll go the arts and crafts fair in Helsinki.

Täydellistä - Perfect

Olen ollut pari-kolme päivää tässä parantelemassa alkavaa flunssaa. Ei sentään mitään töpselinokkaeläintautia, ihan vaan sellaista normaalia. Eilen piti käydä täydentämässä ruokavarastoja ja kävin samalla reissulla noutamassa paketin tullipostista. Johan se on siellä ärsyttävästi odottanut viikon.

Paketti piti sitten avata normaalin kaavan mukaan joten uudelleenpakattuna se ei enää ollut yhtä sievä kuin ensimmäisellä kerralla, siksi vaan kuvia sisällöstä. Lahjaveroa ei kuitenkaan onneksi pitänyt maksaa, saati sitten mitään muitakaan maksuja.

I've been more or less ill for the last two-three days. Not a swine flu, just a normal cold. Yesterday I had to go get some more food - even though I haven't felt that hungry - and I decided to go fetch my package from customs at the same trip. It has been taunting me for a week already.

I had to open the package there as is the custom so re-packing it did make it considerably less neat than what it was so that is why I only show what I found inside. Luckily I did not have to pay anything for it.

Kyseessä oli paketti Secret Pal 14-vaihdosta. Olen ollut useammassa mukana ja ne ovat olleet mielestäni hauskoja joten otin osaa tähänkin. Vaihtoaikaa on syyskuun loppuun ja paketteja saa lähetellä oman mielen mukaan, kunhan kokonaisarvo on tietyn summan. Tällä kertaa ryhmiä taisi olla kolme, ja itse otin osaa tuohon kalleimpaan luokkaan, eli 90 dollaria. Ai, ja nyt itse asiaan eli ensimmäiseen pakettiini:

Lankaa löytyi paria eri laatua ihanissa petroolin väreissä. Kauniista pienestä japaniaiheisesta kangaspussukasta löytyi vyyhti Teksasilaista Brook Farm Yarnin 100% kid mohairia (Primero). Langassa on kaunis kiilto ja se tuntuu mukavan liukkaalta. Tästä syntynee joku kiva pitsihuivi jossain vaiheessa.

The package was from my Secret Pal 14 swap pal. I've taken part in the Secret Pal swap a few times and I've always enjoyed it so I decided to go along this time too. The swap ends at the end of September and you can send the packages as you like, as long as you tell your pal your plan and the total value is at the right amount. I think this time there were three categories and I took part in the most expensive, 90 dollar category. Oh, I and now to the main subject, the package:

Inside a lovely small bag made out of japanese patterned fabric I found a skein of 100% kid mohair from Brook Farm Yarn, Texas (Primero). The yarn is a lovely teal colour and has a nice sheen and feels quite "slippery". This will probably become a nice lace shawl sometime later.

Petrooli jatkuu sorsan värisellä langalla (Mallard, väri 36). Kyseinen lanka on Manos del Uruguayn Wool Clasica-lankaa, 100% villaa. Luonnossa väri on hieman syvempi, mutta kuvan sävy on suunnilleen oikea. Hauskaa, olen ajatellut kokeilla Manoksen lankoja ja nytpä sain niitä. Salainen ystäväni on kyllä onnistunut langanvalinnoissa täydellisesti. Molemmat langat ovat todella kauniin värisiä ja juurikin minua.

Teal continues with duck-coloured yarn (Mallard, colour 36). The yarn in question is Wool Clasica from Manos del Uruguay and is 100% kettle dyed wool. I've been meaning to try Manos yarns and now I got some. I have to say that my Pal succeeded perfectly in choosing the yarns. Both are very yummy colours and so me.

Sitten hieman hemmottelua, suulle ja käsille. Suklaata ja käsirasvaa. Tuo Knit Picksin käsirasva tuoksuu todella hyvälle ja on varmasti tarpeen jahka ilmat tästä viilenevät. En voi sille mitään, edelleenkin nuo Dove-suklaat jaksavat huvittaa vaikka olen niihin ennenkin törmännyt. Täällä kun Dove on vain päivittäiskosmetiikkaa. Hersheyn tummat suklaat ovat uusi tuttavuus (en kaikesta hypestä huolimatta pidä Hersheyn suukoista) ja varsinkin nuo karpalo+suklaa+manteli-palat ovat aika maukkaita. Juu, aloitin tummista suklaista. Tuntuu siltä että suklaamakuni on vähitellen siirtymässä tummempiin päin.

Then some pamperin for the mouth and hands. Two different hand lotions and some chocolate. Hand lotion is always handy (ha-ha) and the Knit Picks one particularly smells yummy. It will come in handy once the weather cools. I can't help but still be amused by the Dove chocolates even though this is not my first encounter with that brand. For, here we only have Dove as cosmetics (shower gels, facial creams etc). The Hershey's dark chocolates are a new one for me (for all the hype I still don't like Hershey's kisses) and the cranberries, blueberries and almond squares are quite yummy. And yes, I started with the dark ones. I think my preference in chocolates is gradually changing towards the darker ones.

Ja ei se tähän loppunut, paketista löytyi vielä kaikkea pientä kivaa: Soak-villapesuainetta, Ravelry-nappi (harmi kun en pääse retriittiin tänävuonna, ehkä sitten seuraavaan), lammas post-itejä ja tuollaisia koristeltuja lappuja, puikkomitta (niitä ei voi koskaan olla liikaa koska ne ovat aina hukassa), kiva metallinen kissa-kirjanmerkki, Knitscene-lehti ja huiviohje.

Knitscene on minulle uusi tuttavuus ja sieltä sainkin ideoita yhdelle paksulle langalle mikä odottaa neulomisvuoroa. Huiviohje on Spring Things Shawl, joka on myös juurikin täysin minun makuani. Sillä pidän huiveista joissa ei ole liikaa kaikkea vaan pitsimalli on yksinkertainen mutta kaunis. Tuosta paketissa tulleesta kid mohairista saisi varmaankin tämän.

And it is not over yet! There was still many lovely things in the package: a small bag of Soak, a Ravelry-pin (too bad I can't go to the knitting happening they're arranging in Finland this year, maybe next time), some post-it notes (cute sheep ones and lovely patterned ones with flags), a needle gauge (which are always useful since I never seem to find even one), a lovely metal cat-shaped book mark, a shawl pattern and Knitscene-magazine.

Knitscene is a new one for me and I found some ideas of what to make of this bulky yarn I have waiting in my stash. And the shawl pattern is Spring Things Shawl. I like the pattern very much for I like shawls that have quite a simple construction and not too many different lace patterns. I think that the kid mohair that was in the package might have enough yardage to make this shawl.

Paketteja - Packages

Neulonta-asiat ovat olleet vähän tylsällä tolalla viimeaikoina. Joko ei ole ollut aikaa neuloa (veli oli kylässä viikonloppuna) tai sitten olen tehnyt jotain mitä ei viitsi esitellä kun se on menossa lahjaksi. Mutta sain kuitenkin paketin keskiviikkona, joten esittelen sen nyt tässä.

Osallistuin Ravelryssä Wollmeise Summer Break -vaihtoon ja sain kaikkea kivaa. Paketistani löytyi lammaskoristeinen kynsiviila, sukkaputki, neuloja, suurennuslasikirjanmerkki, magneetti ja lyhyt virkkuukoukku joka on tarkoitettu silmukoiden poimintaan ja neulontaan samanaikaisesti (toinen pää on terävä).

My knitting things haven't been that great lately. Either I haven't had time to knit (my brother visited us this weekend) or I've been knitting something I don't want to show here since it's going out as a present. But I got a package on Wednesday so I'll share it with you.

I took part in The Wollmeise Summer Break Swap in Raverly and I got a ton of goodies. Inside my package I found a sheep nail file, a sock tube, some yarn needles, a magnifying bookmark, a crochet hook thingy meant for picking up stitches and knitting them at the same time (the other end is tapered) and a knitterly magnet.

Lisäksi siellä oli erilaisia käsirasvoja kätevissä pusseissa. Sietää neulojalla olla sileät kädet jotta hienot langat eivät tartu kiinni. Näillä onkin käyttöä jahka ilma viilenee sillä kuiva huoneilma kuivattaa minulla käsiä.

Then there was hand lotion in small convenient packages. These will come in handy once the weather turns cool for my hands do become dry with the dry air. I don't want to snag those fine lacy yarns.

Ja vaihdon pääasia, eli se lankakerä. 100% superwash merinoa värissä Tiefer See (sini-vihreäkirjava) ja pikkukerä pirteänoranssia Clementineä (se ei ole noin ärtsäkkä luonnossa vaan enemmänkin juuri mandariininoranssi) ja tietysti nallekarkkeja. Ja kaiken kukkuraksi kaikki oli pakattu Wollmeise-paperipusseihin. Kaikenkaikkiaan mahtava paketti, kiitokset Susanille sinne ison veden toiselle puolelle.

And finally the main object of the swap, that is Wollmeise. I got a skein of 100% superwash merino in Tiefer See (blue-green) and a tiny skein of cheerful Clementine (it is not that bright in real life, more sort of real fruity orange) and of course some gummi bears. And to top it all everything in the package was packed in Wollmeise paper bags. Thank you so much, Susan.

Taas olisi hieman puhumattomia lankoja tarjolla.

Kahta eri väriä TitanWoolin Merinos Extra-huivilankaa , 100 g / 1400 m. Hinta 4 €/vyyhti + pk. Vaalea lila ja siniharmaa. Värikoodeja en muista mutta katson ne tarvittaessa. - EDIT: Titanwoolit menneet

Ullcentrumin omenanvihreä Linea-pellavalankaa, 75% pellava, 25% puuvilla, 100g = n. 260m. Väri ei vaan loppujen lopuksi olekaan se oikea, joten myyn nämä pois. Vyyhtejä on 3 (300 g siis) ja hintapyyntö 30 €+pk.

Pari muinaislankaa löytyy edelleen, eli kaksi vyyhtiä Debbie Blissin Maya-lankaa, laputtomia joten en tiedä värikoodeja. Yhteensä noin 200 g, jotain voi tarjota.

I bring you...fir... eh, Wollmeise

Parissa Wollmeise-päivityksessä on onnistanut ja tässä tulos. Vasemmalta oikealle: Dunkle Kirsch, Türkis ja Wasabi. Kirsikkaista on kaksi ja niistä tulee liivi, turkoosin ja vihreän kohtalo on vielä ratkaisematta.

I've been lucky in two Wollmeise-updates and here's the result. From left to right: Dunkle Kirsch, Türkis and Wasabi. I have two skeins of the cherry one and they'll become a vest but the fate of the other two is still undetermined.

Yksiväristen lisäksi on myös hieman kirjavampia. Vasemmalla Barist-o ja oikealla Am Kalten Polar. Tuohon pohjoisen kuvaan en ole kovinkaan tyytyväinen, luonnossa siinä on enemmän värejä mutta kun ei tullut parempaa kuvaa niin ei (yritin kyllä). Molempia on useampi vyyhti ja niistä tuleepi huiveja. Tähän tapaan, hauska idea minusta ja hyvä keino saada käsin/pätkävärjätyistä kivaa jälkeä.

In addition to the almost solids I have some with more colours. On the left is Barist-o and on the right Am Kalten Polar. I'm not really happy with the colours on the Polar, for there's more of them in real life. But, since the camera did not want to co-operate (I really tried) it can't be helped. I have more than one of both and they'll become scarves in this style. I think that's a clever idea to get handpainted and variegated yarns to look their best.

Ostoksia - Shopping

Viimeinkin Tallinnanostoksia, eihän siitä ole kuin vähän yli viikko kun siellä kävin. Mutta esitän puolustuksekseni edellisen postauksen viikostani. Karnaluks oli ennallaan ja harvinaista kyllä en ostellut sieltä ihmeemin lankaa vaan keskityin tarvikkeisiin. Mukaan tarttui kolmet pitsiaddit ja Ponyn kalliihkot ruusupuupyöröt kokeeksi. Harmi ettei tuolla ole Addi click-sarjaa, sitä kokeilisin mielelläni. Poimin mukaan myös kasan mustasävyisiä nappeja, pienen virkkuukoukun ja pari huiveihin kelpaavaa hakaneulaa. Hmm, olin mielestäni ottanut myös yhden pienemmän hakaneulan, mutta ehkä se tippui korista matkanvarrelle.

Finally presenting my Tallinn stuff, it's only been, what, a bit over week since I was there. But, I present the previous entry as my reason why. Karnaluks was as it always is and to my surprise I was not that interested in yarn for I concentrated on accessories. I bought three pairs of Addi lace circulars and too one pair of Pony rosewood circulars to try out. I also got some small blackish buttons, a small crochet hook and a couple of pins suitable for shawls. Hmm...I remember taking one smaller one too but maybe it got left behind.

Karnaluksista etenimme Lianniin ja sieltä lähti mukaan viisi kerää Filatura di Crosan Luxury-silkkilankaa, kauniina sinisenä. Tästähän saisi varmaan jonkun hihattimen, eikö?

From Karnaluks we went to Liann and I bought five skeins of Filatura di Crosa's Luxury silk yarn. That's enough for a bolero or something, surely?

Ja pari kerää Alvitan alpakkaa epämääräisenä sinertävänä. Jos näistä ja kotona olevista erinäisistä samanpaksuisista alpakoista saisi aikaan talvipuseron.

And a couple of balls of Alvita's Alpaka yarn in a bluish shade. I'm planning to use these with the alpacas I have at home to make some kind of sweater for winter.

Pronksi lõngapood on muuttanut Viru-kadulle, Lindexin alakertaan kellariin (mutta on vielä samanniminen). Siellä on paljon kartiolankoja ja vietimmekin tovin niiden äärellä. Mukaan lähti kuitenkin vain vyyhti vironvillaa pitsivahvuisena, kauniina turkoosina. Joka tietenkään ei kuvassa toistu niin kirkkaana kuin luonnossa.

Pronksi lõngapood has moved to Viru-street, in the basement below Lindex (but is still called the same). They had lots of different cone yarns and we spent a while fondling them. But in the end I just got a skein of lace-weight Estonian wool in lovely turquoise. Which of course does not look nearly as vibrant in the photo as it does in real life.

Siinä Tallinnanostokset, mutta sain vielä oravannahkakaupoista (sulle cadenza-neuletakki, mulle lankaa) Colinetten purppuran sekapakkauksen. Siinä sitä nyt on, kilo violetteja lankoja. Onneksi mukana ei ole mitään kauhean vastenmielistä, vaikka en karvaisten mohairien suurin ystävä olekaan, niin niitä on sen verran vähän että kyllä ne puikoille pääsevät. Näistä tulee todennäköisesti joku jakkuTine Solheimin Leikkiä langoilla-kirjan tyyliin.

Those were my Tallinn purchases, but I still got more yarn. Since my cadenza-cardi came out too big I gave it to a fellow knitter and got these in return: a Colinette creative pack in purple. There it is in all its kilo gorgousness. Luckily there weren't any icky yarns though I'm not a fan of overly furry mohair yarns there were so little of them that they will surely manage to get knitted. These will probably become a cardi in the style of Tine Solheim's Maskeball.
