SP5 Questionnaire

- -

I joined the other day the Secret Pal 5-thing. Well, it's kind of like the Nordic Secret Friend-exchange we had (almost finished) but here you have only one secret friend that you amuse. Maybe it's a bit simpler because I was at times confused what I should send and when and to whom.

Anyway, here's the questionnaire from the website (info for my future Secret Pal). (Only in English this time, sorry).

1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer higher quality and/or natural fibers)? Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand? Or is it all the same to you?

Umm...I have to confess that I am. At least I prefer natural fibers. If the natural fiber content is over 50% I'm a happy knitter. I tend to stay away from the acrylics.

2. Do you spin? Crochet?

Nope, and yes, but very seldom. I don't have the patience for crocheting.

3. Do you have any allergies? (smoke, pets, fibers, perfume, etc.)

Chamomille...and no honey for me. That's about it.

4. How long have you been knitting?

Ages and ages. I had a two-three year break that ended about a year ago. Then I discovered internet and the wonderful online yarn stores and knitting mailing lists and now I'm hooked again :-)

5. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?

Yes I do, but I don't update it really so I won't put it here.

6. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)

Well...for one thing, I don't like scented candles because they do tend to be on the strong side. I don't like strong smells. And floral scents tend to react funnily with my skin making them smell a bit odd. So I like fruity and spicy scents. To name a few of my favourite scents: Green Tea by Elisabeth Arden, Laura by Laura Biagiotti, Dalissime by Salvador Dali, Happy by Clinique. And then vanilla is nice and citrus scents.

7. Do you have a sweet tooth?

Yup. Chocolate is nice although I seem to have gone off it a bit. I don't get those chocolate cravings like I did still a couple of years ago. But I do enjoy a good chocolate. I'm not really a candy person.

8. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do?

I sometimes felt and then I make christmas cards, but that's about it.

9. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)

Yes, my computer can play MP3s and I even have an iPod. And my taste in music varies greatly depending on my mood...no country and western though, but the bands/artists I like at the moment are: Marilyn Manson, U2, Queen, Garbage, Värttinä (Finnish folk music, modern style), Shivaree, Evanescence, Rammstein, Dido, Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow, Pink, Suzanne Vega, Tom Petty...to name a few.

10. What's your favorite color? Or--do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer? Any colors you just can't stand?

Umm.. that's a difficult one. First, I don't like basic colours, you know, your basic whites and blues and reds, although black is fine. And no yellow...and I'm not too sure about brown either. Reddish brown is sort of nice. I think I prefer autumn colours, muted, like burgundy, forest green, orange...stuff like that. Strong, nice mixed colours. Maybe a bit more on the cold side than overly warm.

11. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?

I have a SO who I've been living with for ages and ages and we have a cat.

12. What are your life dreams? (really stretching it here, I know)

Umm...the supreme ruler of the Universe, of course...oh yeah, and health and friends and I do like to travel a bit too ;-)

13. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with?

Again, with the multiple answers question. But lately I've enjoyed Rowan Calmer and then I like soft wools (merino, cashmere blends, etc).

14. What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?

Acrylics. And I'm not too crazy about the sort of funky yarns like eyelash or furry. I've done my bit of experimenting with them, thank you very much.

15. What is/are your current knitting obsession/s?

I'm not obsessed, who said I'm obsessed? I absolutely deny any obsessions here. So no, not overly obsessed here. Though I do seem to be buying pattern books lately.

16. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?

Sweaters and cardigans.

17. What are you knitting right now?

Take a look at the "on the needles"-section of my blog. That is usually quite accurate.

18. What do you think about ponchos?

Ummm....no. I prefer not to. Ok, I have seen some cute crocheted ones but generally they're not for me.

19. Do you prefer straight or circular needles?

Circulars

20. Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?

Metal Addi Turbo's, baby!

21. Are you a sock knitter?

Yeah. Although I do tend to stick with the same old basic pattern.

22. How did you learn to knit?

At school, like most kids in Finland I guess (yes, even the boys, at least they did when I was a kid).

23. How old is your oldest UFO?

I have no idea. I dug it out the other day with the idea of finishing it but after taking a good look at it I decided it's for the frogging. But that's at least five years old. Probably older.

24. What is your favorite animated character or a favorite animal/bird?

Well...Marvin the Martian absolutely. And Garfield is fun too, and Snoopy. Favourite animal is definitely cat.

25. What is your favorite holiday?

Hmm....Christmas I guess.

26. Is there anything that you collect?

Heh, earrings *g* Oh, I do have nickel allergy, so the hooks have to be either silver or surgical steel (or other precious metals).

27. What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?

Just the Finnish Novita-magazine at the moment.

28. Any books out there you are dying to get your hands on?

Oh, lots and lots. But I won't list them here because then I'll just have to go and buy them.

That's it, folks!

Inspiraation odotusta - Waiting for inspiration

Kirjoitusinspiraationi on täysin kateissa. Urgh!

- -

My writing inspiration is totally lost. The new Ulla came out today (well, what are you waiting for, go check it out already!) and I'm writing a tutorial for tubular cast-on. And yes, I'm late...the tutorial was not finished on time because I had to get some photos too. Yesterday I bought a small tripod for my camera and today I tested it out. The photos are done and I've started my writing but now I've came to a halt. Everything I write sounds really stupid. Ugh!

- -

Cloud is finished but not sewn together yet. And while I was thinking what to do next I knitted a couple of squares. Well, three actually. They came out a bit strange, the sort of things only a mother can love. I dug out some leftovers for the squares and of course I ran out of yarn at the most inappropriate times. And it's amazing how hard it is to just knit, the fingers keep doing an odd purl stitch here and there. I had to frog a square because I could not live with the odd purl-mistakes there. In addition to that it took some calibrating to get the square size right (20cm by 20cm). The first square I knitted was a whopping 25cm. I still don't understand how I managed to do that since I do own a perfectly good measuring tape (several actually).

- -

Ja sitten vähän lankamarinaa. Tilkut on tehty Novitan 7-veljestä langasta.

- -

And then a bit yarn-related whining. The squares are made out of Novita 7-brothers yarn. I've always thought that it's one of those sturdy basic yarns that stay the same through all eternity. Well, apparently this is not the case. The heather-coloured yarn is the newest, a couple of years old and it is noticeably thinner that the odds and ends I dug out for the rest. Hmph! You can't do that!

Neulotaan, neulotaan, neulotaan - Knit, knit, knit your sleeve

Kuva on nimeltään: "Cloudin hiha kurkistaa Ikean Minnen-pussista". Kelpaiskohan tämä Kiasmaan?

Greetings from the sleeve factory. The pattern said that knit 46cm sleeve and then start the sleeve cap. I have 50cm. Maybe I should stop now?

And since there has been blue sleeves here before now an art shot for a change. The picture is called: "The sleeve of Cloud peeking from a Minnen-bag by Ikea". Would MoMa take this?

Sunnuntain apatiaa - Sunday apathy

Olen kirjoittanut kuusi. Jipii. No, päivittelenpä tässä sitten blogia odottaessani että särkylääkkeet tekevät mitä niiden pitäisi.

- -

Sunday again...and I still have a sore throat, a slight fever and a bigger than normal headache. And I should finish an essay of 10-15 pages by tomorrow night, and the subject is product development and its assessment in the company I work for. I've written six. Whopee! Well, while I'm waiting for the painkillers to do their job I might as well update my blog.

- -

I got visitors from Kotka today, my mom and my brother. My mother doesn't drive so the designated driver is usually my brother or me, when I'm in the neighbourhood. Today I got to drive around Espoo because we went to Ikea. We got some bookshelves (for my mom) and some boxes (for my yarns). I also got some yarn, this so called pain-relief silkwool (70% Finnsheep wool, 30% silk) that should cure all ailments from achy toes to insomnia. I'm supposed to knit some socks for my mom, or so I heard. I must confess that I wasn't very thrilled when I was told that...I mean, not that I'm against it as such, it's just nice to be asked first. But a few carefully placed hints got me some of that yarn too, so I can knit myself some all-healing socks too!

- -

Re-Cloud has progressed to this point. I still have to rip and re-knit the sleeves and I'm done. The body part looks the same as it did before, it's just slightly larger. And now it's just right. All that ripping and re-knitting really paid off. Now all I have to do is the sleeves.

21.5.05

Vanhoja virheitä tai mitä ihmettä olen oikein ajatellut? - Past mistakes or what was I thinking?

- -

Because new knits are a bit scarce right now (still re-knitting Cloud) I thought I'd show you some of my past mistakes before they're sentenced to frogging.

- -

- -

Yesterday evening I remembered that I have an almost finished cardigan made of Novita wool yarn just waiting for sewing and the crocheted edges. The pattern is from an old Novita magazine, from an issue where they presented these traditional sweaters and I liked the one made of natural white wool with colourful crocheted edges. But I decided to make it black. I got a bit sidetracked when it came to the sewing and crocheting part, since I do not care for crocheting much. It lay dormant in a closet up until recently when I decided that I should finish it. Or maybe not. I looked at the pieces again and it doesn't look good.

- -

Look how wide it would be! The brown sweater is loose on me and the back piece is even wider than that. And if you look closely you can see where the sleeves would be (the corner marks the sleeve hole).

- -

And what about the sleeves then? Here's some reference...in the picture there's a normal dpn. I'd like to point out that the pieces have not been blocked and that the pattern is such that it would widen with blocking when flat.

- -

Olen ilmeisesti taas onnistunut tekemään ylisuuren puseron 80-luvun lepakkohihoilla. Purkuun vaan! Tosin en tiedä mitä tuosta mustasta langasta sitten tekisin...

- -

I've apparently managed to make an oversized sweater with 80's wide sleeves yet again. Do you remember this? At this point it's appropriate to ask what the hell was I thinking?? To rip with it! Although I have no idea what to do with this black yarn then...

Maxwell

Valmis vihdoinkin.

Finally finished. I got a bit stuck with this one because I knew I had to sew the zipper on again, since it was a bit wonky. But here, the new improved Maxwell (from Jaeger JB20, yarn Merino's Otto).

18.5.05

Tag, I'm it.

Hmm...taisin unohtaa Nykysuomen sanakirjan pois laskuista.

Viimeisin ostamasi kirja

Ostin viime perjantaina: Dean Koontz The Taking

Viimeisin lukemasi kirja

Tolkien: Sormusten herra

Tulee luettua sillöintällöin, suomeksi, koska käännös on mielestäni loistava.

Terry Pratchett:

No, Kristelille, koska hänellä on varmaan mielenkiintoisia kirjoja hyllyssään.

- -

There's a book meme going around...I got this from Marjut. So let's begin.

Total number of books in your house

Well, I was curious so I counted them...882. And from comics I only counted the big ones that could be considered as books. Most of it is fiction (scifi and fantasy mainly) but there's also cookbooks, knitting books, travel books, study books etc. Hmm...I guess I forgot to count the Dictionary of Modern Finnish here (in several parts).

The last book you bought

I got it last Friday, Dean Koontz: The Taking.

The last book you read

I read the above mentioned book already and now I'm reading from the same author Frankestein Book One: Prodical Son. And I'm also reading Stolen from Kelley Armstrong (werewolfs and other mythical creatures).

5 (or 6) books you read often or that mean a lot to you

Well...here's some list:

Tolkien: The Lord of the Rings

I read this from time to time, in Finnish, because I think the translation is great. And because the first time I read the books (at the age of 13-14) I did it in Finnish. Quite an experience.

Stanislav Lem: The Cyberiad and Star Diaries

I read these in Finnish too. I do have the Cyberiad in English, but I prefer the Finnish version. Mainly because I think the Finnish version of the poem that the Electric Bard wrote is better. Anyhow, Trurl and Klapausius are great!

Isaac Asimov: The Robot-books

Douglas Adams: Hitchhiker-trilogy

This I read too from time to time, although I think the first three books are the best (this is a trilogy in five parts, to those unfamiliar with the series).

Terry Pratchett:

My favourites are the two first books ((The Colour of Magic ja Light Fantastic) and all the books about the witches (Granny Weatherwax rules!) and Death.

At this moment though the sad state of the book-holding places (two and a half bookcases, the bedside tables and the bedroom floor) prevents me from finding any particular books, but I'm hoping the situation improves in the near future.

Who are you going to pass this to and why?

Well, to Kristelille, because I think she'll have some interesting books in her bookshelves.

To Nenna, the same reason.

And to Mira, because I'm interested what they read there on the other side of the big water ;-)

17.5.05

Knitadelic, baby!

Krhm, liikaa elokuvia... No, neulottuakin on tullut.

- -

Krhm, too much movies... What else is there to do while on sick leave than watch movies and scratch the cat. Well, I have knitted some. The back and left front of Re-Cloud are finished. I must admit that it's not nearly as fun to knit the second time.

- -

Kiitos, Johku!

I did have something else to write too. I want to introduce my knitting friend Johku. The story so far: Ninni orchestrated such an event and divided the participants into pairs that got acquainted with each other. There was going to be three presents. The first one was yarn, the second one was something nice and the third one was something you knitted.

My knitting friend was Johku, 29-year old housewife from Helsinki (two kids, a boy and a girl). She has found knitting again after many years but has gotten into it very enthusiastically. Likes thrillers and horror, in both book and film form. Music should be rock or heavier. We had a nice situation because we did not have to spend any money on postage because she lives conveniently on my route to work. So we exchanged gifts personally.

Above is my third present, a cottony scarf, just right for this time of the year and a small knitted purse that the scarf was in. Thanks, Johku!

- -

- -

And now I can reveal all them *beep*s. So I knitted first socks but then I thought that they were a bit dull so I made fingerless mittens too. And the yarn was ah, so spring-like wool.

16.5.05

Lankaa, lankaa, lankaa... - Yarn, yarn, yarn...

Pitäisiköhän lankahulluilla olla oma laulu tyyliin kääpiöt (vrt. Kultaa, kultaa)? Ja niille jotka eivät tiedä mistä puhun heitän tähän lainauksen Terry Pratchettin kirjasta Soul Music:

- -

Should us yarnholics have our own song in the style of dwarfs (vs. Gold, gold)? And to those that don't have the faintest idea what I'm talking about, here's a quote from Terry Pratchett's book Soul Music:

Gortlick and Hammerjug were songwriters ... They wrote dwarf songs for all occassions. Some people say this is not hard to do so long as you can remember how to spell "Gold," but this is a little bit cynical. Many dwarf songs are on the lines of "Gold, gold, gold" but it's all in the inflection.

- -

Mutta ennenkuin lähden hoilaamaan lankalaulua, haluaisin esitellä niitä vähän. Lankoja siis. Ensimmäisenä on vuorossa 3. pohjoismaisen salaisen ystäväni Elisabethin lähettämät langat. Kaksi kerää Crystal Palace Yarnsin Deco-Ribbon lankaa.

But before I go off to sing that song, I'd like to present some. Yarns, that is. First is my gift from my 3rd Nordic secret friend Elisabeth. Two balls of Deco-Ribbon from Crystal Palace Yarns. There was also a pattern for a knitted purse, but since I'm not very fond of felted, knitted or crocheted purses (bags should be firm) I see a scarf. One can never have too many scarfs!

- -

Ja seuraavana Tallinnanlöytöjä. Lauantaina joukko lankahulluja, pääasiassa Novita-klubin keskustelupalstalta, teki langanhankintareissun lahden toiselle puolelle.

Kuvassa on osa hankinnoistani. Suunnilleen kerä kaikkea. Ja mitäpä minä siis ostin:

3 kerää Eestiläistä Maali-lankaa á 100g (=300g) (tummanpunaista, vaaleanvihreää ja tummanvihreää)
3 kerää limenvihreää On Line Kaschmerino-lankaa á 50g (=150g)
10 kerää viininpunaista Steinbach Wollen Merino soft-lankaa á 50g (=500g)
8 kerää Bergere de Francen Cotonature-lankaa á 50g (=400g) (1 kerä sinistä, loput khakivihreää)
7 kerää On Line Bingo-puuvillalankaa á 50g (=350g) (eri värejä)
1 kerä Adriafil Graphic-lankaa á 50g (vanhojen kaveriksi, vihreää)

Yhteensä siis 1750g.

Langoille on kyllä jo suunnitelmia: Maalista tulee huovutetut tossut ensi talveksi, lime Kaschmerino pääsee kaapissa olevan mustan kaveriksi paidaksi, viininpunaisesta Merino softista tulee myös joku paita, Cotonature saa lisää kavereita Marjutilta ja muokkautuu paidaksi ystävälle, Graphic liittyy odottamassa olevien seuraan ja toivottavasti tulee joksikin (tämä on vielä epäselvää) ja Bingo-langoista piti tulla virkattu toppi, mutta pari kukkaa virkattuani en oikein ole enää varma. Siis selvät kuviot!

And above are my stash enhancements from Tallinn. On Saturday a hoard of yarn-holics took a trip across the bay (you can read about it also from Marjut's blog). And ten women managed to buy a lot of yarn. The total amount is not yet sorted, but we did manage to make a very big pile on the ship's table. And we entertained fellow travellers in the process.

In the above picture you can find some of my purchases. At least a ball of every kind. And what did I get:

3 skeins of Estonian Maali yarn á 100g (=300g) (in dark green, light green and dark red)
3 balls of lime green On Line Kaschmerino á 50g (=150g)
10 balls of Steinbach Wolle Merino Soft á 50g (=500g) (umm...dark fuchsia or something)
8 balls of Bergere de France Cotonature á 50g (=400g) (one ball of blue and rest army green)
7 balls of On Line Bingo cotton yarn á 50g (=350g) (different colours)
1 ball of Adriafil Graphic á 50g (=50g)

So the grand total is 1750g.

I do have plans for the yarns: the Maali will become felted slippers, the lime green Kaschmerino will join the black one I have in my stash to become a sweater of some sort, as will the Merino Soft. The army green Cotonature will acquire some friends from Marjut an will become a sweater for a friend. Bingo was planning on becoming a crocheted top, but I'm not so sure anymore after I've crocheted a couple of flowers. The yarn is quite thin. And the Graphic will join its pals in the stash. So crystal clear plans!

Yksi niitä päiviä - One of those days

No, kauppakeskuksessa päätin sitten mennä kirjakauppaan odottelemaan. Iso virhe.

Do you ever get the feeling that the world is out to get you? That whatever can go wrong does just that? Well, I had one of those days. It wasn't a case of Friday the 13th. bad luck, just a case of "one of those days". (What follows is a longish rant, if you want just knitting content you can skip to the end).

I slept poorly last night and at the end of the day it began to show. I got the great-grandmother of all headaches (though I managed to chase it almost away with a painkiller), I still have a sore throat (going on two weeks) and then I got a bit careless (fortunately nothing broke). I did some measurements and since I was almost done, I wanted to get them finished before I left and so I missed the bus.

My place of work is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. There's a bus to town (read: Helsinki) about twice an hour, after six once an hour. So I decided to take another bus to this shopping centre hoping to catch another bus in a while to get home by a bit alternate route. Went to a bookstore to wait. Big mistake. Bought a book and managed to miss the bus. Took another bus that was going towards Helsinki. Then forgot that it was one of those sightseeing-types that always take the longer way. Well, I had my book an was suitably entertained. Then at about half-way this guy came on. And sat behind me and started to tell me how wonderful I was. Apparently when he first saw me he thought I was just beautiful (I wonder when that
was, when his behind was pointing towards the roof while he was picking up the coins he dropped on the floor?) but when he smelled my pheromones I was apparently irresistible. And then proceeded to list all my attributes...my perfect hair, perfect clothes and so on. But apparently he could deduce from my hairstyle that I was missing something in my life...and before he got to the point where I guess he was going to be the missing bit, we got to my stop and I got off. Then got into another bus and went shopping for groceries. At which point I broke down and bough some chocolate. I felt I deserved it.

After shopping I got on yet another bus and a guy sat behind me that obviously missed the idea of cellphones. Cellphones were invented so that you don't have to shout your business to someone across long distances...of these guys I think the first one was better bus company. He at least told me sweet nothings in a soft voice even if he was a bit drunk.

- -

- -

But the day was saved when a letter from my Nordic Secret Friend was waiting for me when I got home. Inside of which was two balls of Deco-Ribbon tape yarn (Crystal Palace Yarns) and a pattern for a knitted purse. Thank you Elisabeth! (And as a smart woman she had re-used a Colourway envelope ;-)) A picture will come later, the camera is temporarily unavailable.

- -

Well...Cloud is finished now, well, finished and finished. I've sewn the top together and the sleeves although the sleeves are not attached to the body and looks like they won't be yet. Yeah, I should have trusted that small voice that kept repeating that "it looks kind of small" because it was right. It does look kind of small. It could be worn (I think) but it's not nice that a cardy is so tight around the chest. I'm not a teenager anymore. Rip the thing! And re-knit it! I'm not about to give up now since I already have the edge lace!

I aten't dead

- -

Even though I haven't knitted much. An exam is closing in...but yesterday I didn't study (nor did I knit). Instead, my hair received much-needed attention. Over three months without an haircut, how is that possible? Now I have stripes, here:

- -

And after all I decided to preserve the biased cut. The highlights are supposed to be copper coloured with a touch of red. To me they look quite red (yeah, they are that bright in natural light also) but I'll believe it this time. Nice highlights though...I also considered getting blond ones too, but maybe next time. And yes, I do have freakishly small ears...doctors have commented on this since their "for adults" ear-looking-thingy does not fit but they have to switch to "for small children" thingy. Though the nicest comment I've heard from a doctor is that I have fairy ears. Isn't that cute?

- -

Tietääkö IK jotain mitä me emme tiedä?

- -

I also went to my LYS and managed to get out of there without any yarn!! Unbelievable but true. Though there was this quite lovely Garnstudio Alpaca in tweedy sort of apple green...gggahh...pardon my drool. Truly a delicious colour. Not totally inconcievable that my stash might acquire some enhancement in the form of said yarn. But besides drooling on yarns I did glance through the latest Finnish Moda-magazine. And I left it there. Nothing really caught my interest. But I did buy the latest Interview Knits at the local bookshop. Although it was a bit on the dull side too there were a couple of nice socks. But I was a bit baffled by the high wool content of the summer issue. Does IK know something we do not?

- -

- -

And since shoe presentations have been popular lately (eg. here 05/01-entry and here) I shall present my lates shoes also. Camper summer sandals. Now all I need is summery skirt weather. Although I do not have a red handbag...

- -

But today it was back to reality and exam books. I got some supplies...diet Coca-cola and Fazer, the best pals of a student...and yes, I'm collecting the black caps to get a T-shirt (sad, isn't it?).

- -

And Hannu kindly got some food for me also at the shop. The dinner today was a fresh tuna steak with vegetables and there was also a bottle of Chianti to the chef. So I'm really roughing it here!

Tekosellaisia - Fake things

Since today is a fake Sunday (a bank holiday) I started a scarf out of fake suede yarn to celebrate. The yarn is Katia inca that I bought ages ago from Tallinn and I only have two balls of it. I foresee a future where I run out of yarn because there's only 25m in a ball. But luckily there's a trip to Tallinn on 14th!.

- -

- -

And to comment on the comment on my last post: nope, these *beep*:s have nothing to do with peeps. They're gone with the Easter.

- -

And let the meme continue. Here are my questions to Mira.

1. When did you learn to knit and how?

2. What is the most difficult thing you have knitted and how long it took? (And a picture would be a bonus)

3. How many UFO's do you actually have?

4. What is the most fabulous yarn you have bought/knitted?

5. Chocolate, do you like it or hate it? If love is the answer, what kind does it for you?

- -

PS: Melkein unohdin mainita...Riikka on lupautunut kokoamaan yhden Vaakapeitteen (ja jos tulee kauheasti tilkkuja niin apua kaivattaisiin), eli menkää Riikan blogiin ilmottautumaan tilkuttajiksi! Minäkin olen jo tilkkuni puolivälissä.

*piip* - *beep*

Olen melkein saanut valmiiksi *piip* Neulovalle Ystävälleni.

- -

I've almost finished *beep* for my Knitting Friend. Yeah, yeah, I started late, they should have been posted last week already, but I was somehow in the wrong time zone (that's a good excuse, isn't it?). Well, first I did made some *beep* but then I thought that everyone can make *beep*, aren't they a bit dull? And there was plenty of yarn so I thought I'd make *beep* too, out of the same yarn. And now I'm only missing *beep*. Surely everyone can make *beep* also, but they are my first, don't you get credits for that? Or at least frequent flier miles?

- -

- -

PS: If you got really bothered about all them beeps, well, you'll find out what they meant later, maybe even later this week after we have arranged a pickup/delivery-meeting or else. I can't very well say straight what I mean here, people actually read my blog!

Onko elämää Vapun jälkeen? - Is there life after May Day?

Tilaa taksi! Ja päädyin Helsingin rautatieaseman tienoille noin tsiljoonan muun kulkuvälineenodottajan seuraksi. Ei kiva!

- -

Apparently, for I am here ;-) But we got a fence up, pruned a shrub fence with a more than a little heavy hand, drank sparkling wine, blew balloons and made balloon animals (first time for me). All in all a nice May Day but I forgot the most important mantra a partygoer should repeat while leaving the place of the party: order a taxi! Order a taxi! And ended up around the Helsinki railway station with about a zillion other public transportation users. Not nice!

- -

Mutta tässä vastauksia Susannan kysymyksiin:

1) Jännittikö kun sinua haastateltiin telkkariin?

No yllättävän vähän.

2) Mikä on ihanin lanka mitä olet neulonut/ostanut?

Mjamjam...no tuota...kauheimmat langat olisi helpompi sanoa.

3) Olet matkustellut vissiin aika paljon. Missä on parhaat lankakaupat?

Juu, matkusteltua on tullut jonkun verran, mutta olen ollut vähän myöhäisherännäinen näiden ulkomaisten lankakauppojen suhteen vähän niinkuin "Mitä, onko ulkomaillakin lankakauppoja, miksei kukaan oo kertonu mulle???". Lankakauppoja olen bongaillut siis vain Tallinnasta,Sveitsistä, Roomasta, Madeiralta, Dublinista ja Miamista. Tallinnassa on kyllä ehdottomasti eniten lankakauppoja ja suhteellisen hyvät valikoimatkin. Miamin lankakauppa (Elegant Stitches) oli taas valikoiman suhteen ehdoton ykkönen, kauheasti lankaa pienessä tilassa, mutta sinne meneminen vaati jo vähän matkustamista.

4) Viime syksynä sait Rowanilta Linen drapea liittymislahjaksi.

No totta maar!

- -

But here are the answers to Susanna's questions:

1) Was I nervous during the tv-interview?
Surprisingly little. At first yes, but once I got going the talk just seemed to come out of my mouth by itself. And it was a bit different since there was only one person with a camera. Woo...so maybe there would be a future for me in tv...but only with a more tv-friendly face *g*

2) What is the most gorgeous yarn you have knitted/bought?

Well...worst yarns would be much easier to list. But that Noro Cash Iroha I got from Miami was quite nice, soft and with a nice sheen. And Novita Alpaca is soooo soft, but I have yet to finish anything from it. Oh, yes, and the Merino's Otto I got from Rome was really nice to knit.

3) You have apparently traveled a bit. Where are the best yarn stores?

Well, I have done a bit of travelling, yes, but I was a bit of a late starter when it came to yarn-stores in other countries in the style of "What? They knit abroad too? Why has nobody told me that before??" So I have looked (and found) yarn stores only from Tallinn, Switzerland, Rome, Madeira, Dublin and Miami. The most yarn stores I have found from Tallinn and they do have quite a nice selection there also. The shop I visited in Miami (Elegant Stitches) did win the prize for largest selection in one store, but getting there was a bit of a pain.

4) Last autumn you got Linen Drape as a welcome gift from Rowan club. Have you done anything with it or do are they still deciding what to become?

The Linen Drapes are still in the ball form. But I can tell you that I won't be making a place mat. At the moment they're thinking if they want to join the blue Linen Drape I have and become a sweater of some sort but the negotiations are still ongoing.

5) Do you like chocolate? And which is better, Marabou or Fazer? Or something else?

Why yes, of course! And I generally prefer Fazer although Marabou's swiss nut (Schweitzernöt) is mighty fine also. But if I really want to pamper myself (and I usually buy this from the tax-free also) I choose Ferrero Rocher's chocolate thingies. Yum!

You know the drill...if you want to be interviewed, leave a message "interview me" in my comments!

- -

- -

Nothing to mention about knitting...I'm doing a couple of secret projects and the unfinished ones are still unfinished. So yea-ah, I have to take a firm grip on my knitting and finish at least Maxwell and Cloud. The Bliss jacket seems a bit too wooly at this time of the year, although the thermometer says different.
