Hello Kitty-nukke on nyt saanut naaman, korvat ja jalat ja pääsi eilen uuteen kotiinsa, eli kummitytölleni. Kaikesta päätellen se oli myös mieluinen lahja.
Ehdin tehdä Kittylle myös pari vaatekokonaisuutta - ilman kenkiä tälläkin kertaa. Tässä ensimmäinen, eli juhlamekko asuun sopivan rusetin kera. Salamalla sain hieman oikeamman värisen kuvan mekosta ja glitterikin erottuu paremmin. Mekossa on takana yksinkertainen nappi ja lenkki-kiinnitys ja se on virkattu Novitan Rose Mohair Lux-langasta 3 mm puikolla löyhästi. Hieman isompi koukku olisi voinut olla parempi, mutta kun ei ollut käsillä niin käytin sitä mitä oli.
Hello Kitty doll has now a face, legs and ears and it got to its new home on yesterday. And from the ensuing noise I deduced that it was a very good present.
I managed to complete a couple of outfits for the Kitty also. Above is the first one, a party dress with matching bow - no shoes this time either. I got a bit better photo with a flash, the colour is better and you can see the glitter also. The dress has a simple button closure in the back and was made using Novita Rose Mohair Lux yarn and a 3 mm crochet hook. I would have preferred a bit bigger crochet hook for I had to crochet quite loosely and the top is still gaping a bit at the back. But unfortunately that was all I had in hand so I had to do.

Seuraavana arkimekko. Lankana on jotain ystävältä saatua nimetöntä puuvillasekoitetta jossa on hieman kiiltoa. Lanka meni kaikki eikä riittänytkään, virkkasin nimittäin kerroksen samansävyistä puuvillaa vielä helmaan kun mekko tuntui hieman lyhyeltä. Koristeeksi ompelin kukan etumukseen. Mekko on sen verran tukevaa pintaa että en katsonut tarpeelliseksi lisätä siihen minkäänlaista kiinnityssysteemiä. Rusetti sävy sävyyn, tietysti.
Next is the casual dress. For this I used some nameless cotton mix I got from a friend. Used all the yarn and more, for I crocheted one row of matching cotton on the hem for the dress seemed a bit short to me. The dress got a flower decoration on the front. The dress came out quite sturdy so I did not need to add any attachment system to the back. And of course there's a matching bow.

Arkikokonaisuuteen kuuluvan takin sain melkein valmiiksi, mutta sitten piti lähteä kyläpaikkaan ja jättää viimeistely kesken. Valmiista takista ei siis ole kuvaa, mutta pistin siihen samanlaisen hakasen kiinnikkeeksi kuin
tässä.
I almost managed to finish the coat to go with the casual dress but then we had to leave. So no photo of the finished coat but it has the same closure system as
this one.

Vaatteiden konstruktio on hieman outo ohjeiden mukaan. Tämäkin takki olisi tehty siten, että ensin virkataan kainaloiden kohdalta alas, sitten selästä ylöspäin ja etuosat. Eli takkiin olisi tullut eteen saumat kainaloiden kohdalle. Koska käytin liukuvärjättyä vironvillaa niin halusin väriliu'un jatkuvan keskeytyksettä, muutin virkkaustapaa. Aloitin helmasta ja jaoin kappaleen kolmeen osaan kainaloiden kohdalla. Tein ensin etuosat olkapäille ja sitten takaosan samaan kohtaan. Saumat tulivat siis olkapäille ja värit jatkuvat tasaisesti. Sainpa vielä vihreät hihatkin.
The way the clothes were constructed according to the patterns was a bit strange. For this jacket was supposed to be crocheted first from the arm holes down, then from the armholes up and over the shoulders to the front so that there was supposed to be seams on the front at the armholes. Since I used variegated yarn I wanted the colour change to be intact so I changed the construction. I started at the hem and at the armholes I divided the piece to three parts, making the front parts first up to the shoulder and then the back to the same spot. So I had the seams where the shoulders meet the back neckhole. Thus I managed to keep the colour change intact and also managed to get green arms too.

Päätin kuitenkin tehdä hännän, sillä pitäähän kissalla häntä olla, vaikka töpökin. Muusta poiketen tein hännän kuitenkin yksinkertaisella langalla, siten siitä tuli hieman pehmeämpi eikä se ehkä jää niin pahasti tielle vaatteita vaihdettaessa.
I decided to make a tail after all, for a cat should have a tail, even short and stubby one. I made the tail using the yarn single - rest of the kitty is crocheted with doubled yarn - so it is a bit softer and maybe does not get that much in the way when changing outfits.

Rusetinvaihdot mahdollistaa nepparit. Päähän toinen puoli ja toinen puoli rusettiin. Käytin hieman isompia neppareita tähän kuin edelliseen, ja näyttävät toimivan ihan kunnolla. Neppareiden kanssa kannattaa vain hieman tarkkailla sitä miten ne kestävät käytössä ja tarvittaessa ommella uudestaan.
Matching bows with outfits is possible using snaps - one part to the head and other to the bow. I used a bit larger snaps than previously and they seemed to work fine. With snaps you just have to keep an eye on how the sewing fares and if needed reattach them.

Kitty on virkattu siis kaksinkertaisesta Novitan 7-veljestä langasta, 5 mm puikolla ja aika tiukasti. Täytteenä tavallista tyynyvanua - kyllä, olen teurastanut yhden tyynyn amigurumitäytteiksi. Raajat kannattaa tehdä kaikki samalla kertaa, tai ainakin jalat ja kädet kerrallaan, koska itse huomasin että käsialani vaihtelee kuitenkin jonkin verran joten jalat ovat tällä hieman eri kokoiset koska ne on tehty eri päivinä. Lisäksi korviin ja häntään ei turhaan kannata laittaa täytettä.
Mitäs muuta - kittyä ja asusteita on virkattu ahkerammin noin neljän - viiden päivän ajan. Moinen tahti tuntui itse Kittyn jälkeen hieman jo sormissa, sillä kaksinkertaisen langan kanssa touhuaminen on hieman raskasta - ainakin 5 mm koukulla. Vaatteiden kanssa on sitten helpompaa kun ei tarvitse kiskoa niin koukkua silmukoista läpi. Tosin Kittystä tuli näin aika tiivispintainen mistä itse pidin. Sekalaisia ystäviltä ruinattuja lankoja on vielä jäljellä, joten näen tulevaisuudessani vielä Kittyasujen virkkausta toukokuisille synttäreille. Nyt on tosin enemmän aikaa värkätä.

I crocheted the Kitty using Novita 7-veljestä doubled and using a 5 mm crochet hook (which is still missing btw). I stuffed it using regular pillow stuffing - and yes, a pillow was harmed. It is a good idea to make all limbs at the same time, or at least legs and arms at the same time. I did not do so and the legs on this one are not exactly the same size for I made them on different days.
What else...I crocheted the Kitty mainly during about four - five days. A bit too much crocheting for me, for the Kitty itself was bit of a pain to make at times for the resulting fabric was a bit dense and had to work harder with the hook. The clothes were much easier to make. But, the Kitty came out quite dense which I liked. I still have various yarns from friends so I see more Kitty outfits in my future. My god-daughter's birthday is in May so I still have plenty of time to make them.
