Blogikissa - introducing the blogcat

Noniin!

Introducing the official blogcat Kisuli. She doesn't like my camera much, so don't expect many pictures of her. And on the background you can see a sweater I made from Adriafil Match. Maybe a better picture in the future (without the cat). I've worn the sweater a couple of times and now it seems it needs some strengthening around the collar. I probably have to do some crochet around it.

And next: swatches. Both are of Rowan yarns, the blue one is Linen Drape and the dark one is Magpie Aran. The colours even look sort of ok (at least on my monitor). Linen Drape is called Cornflower (lovely light blue) and Magpie is Prance (dark plum). I decided to do the sensible thing after swatching and wetted the samples. After drying I measured them again. Linen Drape was ok (though the swatch was quite small) but something weird had happened with Magpie. It's supposed to become Rogue some time in the future and it calls for 10cm 18 stitches and 23 rows. I was using 4.5mm needles and got 17 stitches and 24 rows. After washing I measured again and got 15 stitches and 25 rows. Now, I can understand the stretching bit but shrinking in another direction...that seems a bit odd for a wool yarn (and I didn't even handle it too carelessly). Well, I decided to swatch again with 4.0mm needles and got the correct numbers. Sensibly, I decided to disregard the whole "different after wetting"-episode and just...well...think that it never happened. After all...out of mind, not true...that's my philosophy.

Hrr...it's so cold outside that I dug out the Huopanen yarn I got from the fair. Mittens coming...or they would be...if I had any dpn:s of the size 8 or 10mm. Not likely! I didn't even knew they made them that big. Hopefully they do. But it means that the mittens have to wait. Shame...I wanted to knit mittens to fit a giant and to see them magically shrink in a washing machine (nope, haven't felted with a washing machine before).
