Neuloja maailmalla - Knitter Abroad

I took the Monday before our independence day off and went to Tallinn with a fellow knitter. They had a nice small christmas market at the town square. Even though they had plenty of those usual knits for sale - you know, those that you see there everywhere - they had plenty of more unique handicrafts to offer also. But I didn't buy anything after all, I had my eye on a pair of mittens which combined leather and knitted fabric. I would have bought them too if they had them in another colour than white for that ends up dirty soon. For I do not like knitted mittens because they are so slippery when you try to hold onto something, like in buses etc. I prefer leather.

The photo above I took with my new camera. For all my hewing and hawing I ended up getting another Canon. This time it's Canon Powershot SX230 HS, in blue of course. I like the 14 x zoom and that it likes to take good photos in much worse lighting conditions than my old one and does not whine about having to use the flash all the time. And being compact it travels easily.

I only bought one pack of yarn when in Tallinn but not for the lack of trying. First we went to see the Noro's at the new yarn store Wool and Woollen. They have a slightly different selection than normal, for they sell the Noro machine knitting line yarns. The colours they had left were unfortunately not to my liking so I did not get any. But I will surely visit it again for it is nicely situated almost opposite of Karnaluks (Tartu mnt 60).

Karnaluks was busy, there were a few - or few busloads - of other Finns shopping also. I mainly bought some sewing supplies like zippers and some cord. One should always have a shopping list made in advance when going there, for the chaotic surroundings make one forget what one needs. I had plenty of those "oh, I wish I would have thought to get that"-moments afterwards. But I got yarn, 10 skeins of SMC Highland Alpaca Fino, a nice alpaca/wool mix in this exact shade of cassis that I've been searching for. There were plenty of other nice yarns too (like Rowan Fine Tweed in teal) but I left them at the store when I didn't come up with ideas of what to make of them.

Oh, and Pronksi is not there anymore. It was known that they and the other shops in the basemend had to find another space by the end of the month but Pronksi had already left. The other shopkeepers there didn't seem to know if Pronksi had closed for good or just moved somewhere else. If someone reading this blog has other information I'd be interested.

Greetings from Santa's workshop. I dug out my sewing machine and got cracking. But that's all about those, for now.

Oo, kiitoksia tiedosta :-)
