Kissa mikroaaltouunissa - Cat in the microwave oven

Kurssi on nyt kurssittu ja vaikka ohjelma oli aika tiukka (9-17 joka päivä) jäi aikaa hieman nähtävyyksien katselullekin. Kun nyt kerran Hollannissa olin, niin pitäähän sieltä tuulimylly bongata, kas tässä.

The course is now done and even though the schedule was quite tight I did manage to do some sight-seeing also. And since I was in the Netherlands, what else is there to do but see a windmill.

Neulomisturismikin oli hyvin edustettuna. Kävin keskiviikkoiltana Haagissa paikallisen Stich'n'Bitch-lahkon kokouksessa. Meitä oli paikalla viisi neulojaa ja vaikka yhteinen kieli oli hieman hakusessa, niin hauskaa oli silti. Eniten ihmetystä herätti erilaiset neulomistavat: puikko kainalon alla vrs. ei ja sukka neljällä pitkällä sukalla vrs. viidellä lyhyellä. En tiennytkään että Hollannissa harrastetaan brittiläistä neulomistapaa!

Sain kokouksessa ohjeet yhteen lankakauppaan Delftissä: Wernekinck Wollgroothandel Richard, Buitenwatersloot 71 (aseman takana). Ja kun tilaisuus torstaina loppui ajoissa, päätin pistäytyä siellä. Kauppa on...mielenkiintoinen. Näyttää aika pieneltä ja hämärältä, mutta kun nousee portaat ylös toiseen kerrokseen niin siellä on paremmat valikoimat. Yläkerta on yhdistetty kauppatila ja toimisto ja seinää koristavat kauniinväriset lankavyyhdit. Vaikka paikka taitaa pääasiassa harrastaa tukkumyyntiä, niin lankaa ja huovutusvillaa myydään myös ihan normaalisti. Hinnat eivät päätä huimanneet: Lopi-tyylinen lanka maksoi noin neljä euroa/100g. En kuitenkaan ostanut mitään. Hiplasin uusiseelantilaista villaa, mutta mikään väreistä ei huutanut mukaanpääsyä, joten jätin langat kauppaan.

Knitting tourism was also well represented. On Wednesday night I joined the local Stich'n'Bitch-group in Den Haag and though we really didn't have much of a common language we had fun. The different knitting styles were the subject of most wondering over: a needle under the arm vrs not and the sock with four long needles vrs with five short ones. I didn't know they knit like the British do in the Netherlands!

While there I got and address to a wool shop in Delft: Wernekinck Wollgroothandel Richard, Buitenwatersloot 71 (behind the main railway station). And when the course finished a bit earlier on Thursday, I decided to take a look. The shop was...interesting. The ground floor is a bit small and dark, but once you climb up the stairs to the second floor you come to a big room that is half storage and half office. There are lovely colourful skeins decorating one big wall. Although I think they do mainly wholesale, they do sell the yarns and felting wool to normal customers as well. The prices were nice, 100g of Lopi-style wool cost a bit over four euros. However, I did not buy anything. I fingered some New Zealand wool quite a bit but none of the colours really caught my fancy so I left them there.

Marjut löysi minulle myöskin lankakaupan osoitteen Delftissä, nimeltään Woolgarde. Se on aika keskustassa ja ehdin käydä sielläkin. Tämä on enemmän normaalimpi kauppa, sellainen missä langat ovat kauniisti esillä hyllyissä. Valikoima on pääasiassa Lana Grossaa. Ja kyllä, pääsin täältäkin ulos ostamatta mitään. Omituista.

Marjut found me also another yarn shop in Delft, Woolgarde. It is quite in the center and I did manage to visit it also. It's what you would call a normal yarn shop, with all the yarns in nice order in their little shelves. They sell mainly Lana Grossa. And yes, I did manage to get out of this one without buying anything also. Weird.

Jotain valmista vihdoinkin: pitsihuivi silkkilangasta. Tätä olenkin tahkonnut jo kiitettävän ajan. Huivi on ollut pääasiassa matkaneulontana kun se menee aika pieneen tilaan ja talvella nyt muutenkaan ei ole kauhea tarve silkkihuiveille. Huivi vaatii vielä höyrytystä tai muuta pingotusta ja sitten sen voi ottaa käyttöön. Juuri sopivasti valmis.

Something finished finally: a lacy scarf with silk yarn. This has been on the needles for quite a while already. It has been mainly something I've knitten while away from home because it was handy to take along and there's not a big need for lacy scarves in winter. Now it just needs a good steaming or other blocking and it's all done. Just the good time for it.

Kiitokset kaikista kissakommenteista! Olen itsekin todella tyytyväinen lopputulokseen. Päässä muhii ideoita seuraaviin versioihin myös. Hannu ilmoitti haluavansa moisen itselleenkin. Mutta en nyt ehkä heti halua virkata toista, koska tuon virkkaamisen pitää mielestäni olla hauskaa että lopputuloksestakin tulee sellainen. Kissatehtailijaksi en siis halua.

En valitettavasti osaa laittaa tähän kirjan nimeä, koska siinä on vain japaninkielistä tekstiä. Mutta edellisen postauksen viimeisessä kuvassa kissa makaa kirjan päällä. Thanks for all the kitty comments! I'm very pleased with the result myself too. I have some ideas for future cats brewing in my head. Hannu told me that he wants one too. But maybe I won't crochet one straight away because I think that making one shold be fun so that the finished product is fun also. And I do not want to become a kitty factory.

I'm sorry I can't tell you the name of the book because I don't kow it. There's only Japanese on the book. But in the last picture of the kitty-post the cat is lying on the book. It is white with a turquoise cat and turqouse text. I can put here the ISBN-number if it's any help: ISBN4-391-13012-2.

And yes, you can put the cat in the microwave oven as long as it's open!
