Neuleraahauksen alkeita - Basics of knit-dragging

Blogikissa otti ja kehitti diabeteksen. Harmi sinänsä, sillä munuaisten vajaatoiminta näyttää nyt pysyvän dieetin avulla kurissa mainiosti sillä veriarvot olivat normaaleja. No, nyt sitten on riittänyt hupia kun piikitämme kissaa insuliinilla kaksi kertaa päivässä. Karvakorva ei tosin itse huomaa välttämättä mitään, mikä on hyvä. Selvää piristymistä on havaittu, ja oppia on kenties haettu Marjutin kissoilta, sillä valvovan silmän ollessa poissa oli raahattu kaksi hihanalkua keskelle lattiaa. Siitä se lähtee.

The blog cat went and got herself a diabetes. Which is a shame since the kidney problem seems to be quite under control now with the diet for the last bloodwork was normal. Fun has been had by injecting the cat with insulin two times a day. Luckily the furry creature doesn't usually even register the event. But there has been some effect already, the cat seems much perkier and has followed the example of Marjut's cats for when the all seeing eye left the building the cat had dragged the two on-going sleeves in the middle of the floor.

Hihat ovat tuosta edenneet, ehkä noin puoliväliin. Kirjanpito ei ole ihan ajantasalla, sillä minulla ei ole minkäänlaista muistikuvaa montako lankakerää tilasin ko. lankaa (Jaeger Extra Fine Merino Aran). Lankapussin pohja näkyy jo ja hihoista puuttuu vielä runsaasti ja kyllä se kauluskin tulee viemään lankaa. Ehkä olen hajasijoittanut niitä jonnekin? Kannattaisi pitää kirjanpito ajantasalla eikä harrastaa itsepetosta.

The sleeves have progressed from that point up to about half-way. My bookkeeping is not very accurate for I have no idea how many balls I ordered of the yarn (Jaeger Extra Fine Merino Aran). The bottom can be seen already and I'm still missing about half of the sleeves and the big collar will take up some yarn too. Maybe I've re-located the rest somewhere? It would be a really good idea to keep the stash records up to date and not practice self-deception.

Takaisin alkuun - Back to the beginning

Yritin ottaa parempia kuvia kirjoneulehihasta päivänvalossa siinä sen ihmeemmin onnistumatta. Punaisen ja vihreän yhdistelmä ei taida olla oikein paras mahdollinen, punainen korostuu liikaa ja vihreä jää aika haaleaksi vaikka sitä kuinka photoshoppailisi. Mutta kyllä tämä nyt paremmalta näyttää kuin se viimekertainen kuva, ei tule ihan niin 80-luku mieleen, vaikka vihreän pitäisikin olla enemmän kiiviä kuin miltä tässä näyttää.

I tried to take better photos of my fair-isle sleeve outside but I didn't have much luck. I think the combination of green and red is too much for my poor camera. The red is oversaturated and the green comes out as wishy-washy no matter how much I photoshop. But I still think that this is better than the previous photo, much less reminding me of the 80's even though the green is more kiwi in real life.

Neulon tänään toisen hihan, sen yksivärisen. Sen jälkeen höyryttelin molemmat, siis valmiin hihan ja tekeillä olevan kirjoneulehihan. Ikävä kyllä asia ei siitä miksikään muuttunut vaikka käytinkin silitysrautaa aika rankasti. Se on liian tiukkaa, tuo kirjoneule siis. Eipä tule kaveria toiselle hihalle tästä, ei. Pakko on aloittaa uudestaan. En heittänyt edes kauheita itkupotkuraivareita kun huomasin asian koska olin sitä vähän uumoillut jo. Mittailin tiheyksiä ja totesin että ne eivät vastaa ohjetta mutta toiveikkaasti ajattelin että jälkikäsittely muuttaisi asiaa. Kyllähän se toimikin jonkin verran mutta ei tarpeeksi. Ja koska en kuitenkaan halua toista hihaa mallia makkarankuori niin on pakko aloittaa alusta. Neulekoneen hyväksikäyttö vaatisi aika tavalla uudelleenmuokkausta tuolle kiemuraraidalle, koska oma koneeni suoriutuu vain 24 silmukan leveistä kuvioista. Eli käsin siis on tehtävä, mutta nyt voisin tehdä hihan pyörönä niin ei tarvitse tehdä niitä nurjia kerroksia ennenkuin hihapyöriön kohdalla.

I knitted the other sleeve today, the all black one. After which I steamed both, the finished and the fair-isle sleeve. Sadly matters stayed the same even though I did use the iron quite enthusiastically. It is too tight, the fair-isle one that is. Not a good match for the other one. So I have to start again. I didn't even throw that much of a hissy fit after I discovered the truth for I had been fearing it for a while. I had been measuring the sleeve and it did seem a bit on the narrow and small side but I hopefully thought that steaming would do the trick. And it did help some but not enough. But I do not want a sleeve that is too tight and so back to the beginning it is. Can't even use the machine for I'd have to re-design a part of the pattern, my machine can only cope with patterns that are 24 stitches wide. So hand-knitting it is but now I think I'll make the sleeve in the round so I can avoid doing the purl rounds for as long as possible.

Ja vielä viimeiseksi kissakuva. Naureskelin otukselle yksi ilta kun se ei näyttänyt kauheasti häiriintyvän päähän laitetusta nauhasta. Jep, kauhea omistaja kiusaa viatonta luontokappaletta ja nauraa vielä päälle. Muttakun se oli niin hauskan näköistä...

And now a cat-photo. I laughed at the furry thing the other night when she didn't seem to mind the thread I put on her. Yep, the horrible owner teases the innocent creature and laughs. But it looked so funny...

Kuuma - Hot

On melkein liian kuuma neuloa. Mutta traumasukka on edennyt siihen pisteeseen että kantapäätä pitäisi tehdä. Lisäksi olen neulonut hiljalleen raitapaidan toista hihaa. Kyllä, olen tiedostanut että sitä ensimmäistäkin pitäisi hieman purkaa, mutta jahka saan toisen valmiiksi niin puran sen sitten. Kannattaa muuten kirjoittaa muistiinpanoja kun tekee flow-neuletta, mutta ei sitten kannata hukata niitä sen jälkeen.

It is almost too hot to knit. But the trauma-sock has progressed to the point where I should start the heel flap. At the same time I've slowly knitted the other sleeve of the striped sweater. Yes, I am aware that I should frog the first one a bit but I'll do that after I've finished the second one. It is a very good idea to make notes while knitting a flow-sweater but it is, however, not a good idea to lose the notes after.

...kun saa edellisenä iltana kauhean räkätaudin, nukkuu kevyet 12 tuntia ja torkkuu sohvalla puoli päivää. Niin eipä sitten enää nukutakaan, ei. Ja mitäpä sitä muuta tekisi kuin päivittäisi blogia.

No, kieli on vaihdettu taas tutuksi englanniksi ja nurkanvaltaajankin kanssa taistellaan ahkerasti. Mutta kun sitä välillä vaan haluaa valittaa, kaikesta, kun sitä tuntuu.

...when one gets a horrible runny nose the night before, sleeps a nice 12 hours and takes catnaps on the sofa the remaining of the day. So one is not so sleepy anymore, o wonder of wonders. And what else is there to do but update the blog?

Ja mullahan on siis, niinku, todella hyvä värisilmä ja maku ja tolleen. No nyt mä keksin sitten tehdä tämmöstä vauvan nuttua, niinku. Ja nyt on jo sivu ja hiha valmiina. Siis niinku todella makee yhdistelmä, hei. Vähän upeeta, eiks?

And I got, you know, totally awesome eye on colours and taste and so like. So now I came up with this idea of making a baby's cardi, like. And now I have already, like, one sleeve and one side. It's totally cool colour combo, don't ya think?

Minä yritin, ihan tosi - I tried, honest

Yritin ottaa kuvia puserosta päällä, joo-oh, mutta ei ole minun syyni että työnantajani haluaa minun olevan töissä silloin kun on valoisaa eikä kotona ottamassa neulekuvia. Ja meillä ei ole kunnon kattovaloja...kirottu kaamos. Mutta tässä paras kuva jonka onnistuin ottamaan (ja reilusti käsitelty). Ainakin siitä ehkä näkee että istuva se on. Jos joku vielä haluaa lisää kuvia niin pitää odottaa viikonloppuun sitten, nih. Ehkä silloin on jo jotain muutakin valmista.

I tried, I really did. Take a photo of me wearing the alpaca sweater, that is. But it is not my fault my employer wants me at work during the day and not at home taking knit-photos. And we don't have proper lights..damn winter and its short days. But this is the best photo - heavily processed. At least it shows that the thing actually fits me. If someone wants more photos then they have to wait until the weekend. Maybe by then I'll have something else finished too.
