Tarvekaluja - Handy tools

Taannoisella ketjukurssillani aloittama ketju jäi kesken enkä sitten ehtinyt edes sahata tarpeeksi lenkkejä, joten tulin kotiin pötkylöiden kanssa. Aikomus oli sitten hetimiten mennä kauppaan ostamaan saha ja teriä jotta saisin ketjut käyttöön. No, en sitten mennyt kun sairastin puoli lääkärikirjaa - tai ainakin tuntui siltä. Lisäksi kun töissä toisella puolella pääkaupunkiseutua, tekee hieman normaalia pidempää työpäivää, on aamu-uninen ja kauppa on auki neljään ja vain arkisin niin logistiikka voi olla hieman haastavaa.

When I was at the silver chain course a while ago I did not have enough time to finish my chain or, as it turned out, have enough time to saw enough links to finish I had to come home with some spirals. I firmly intended to get to a shop and buy a saw and some blades as soon as possible so I could finish the chain and use it. Well, I did not get to go for I caught half of a medical textbook - or so I felt. To top that with the fact that I work on the other side of Helsinki-region than the shop I wanted to visit, my work hours/week is a bit more than normal, I'm not an early riser and the shop is only open until four and only on week days the logistics can be a bit of a challenge.

Eipä silti etten saisi sahoja muualtakin, kyseessä nyt on kuitenkin ihan vaan lehtisaha, mutta ne terät ovat tässä se ongelma. Harva puuseppä tarvitsee kovin hienoja teriä ja hopearenkaita ei oikein kovin paksuilla terillä taas viitsi jyystää.

Viime perjantaina kuitenkin pääsin paikanpäälle, vaikka tekikin vähän tiukkaa. Siinä sitten valittiin sahankehystä (ei, ei sen tarvise olla se 25 euron deluxe-malli, se halvempi kelpaa ihan hyvin), ostin lisäksi paketin teriä ja yhdet hieman paremmat pihdit. Ja totesin että eihän sinne käy pankkikortti ja minulla kun ei ole suunnilleen ikinä käteistä. Onneksi lähellä oli pankkiautomaatti ja sain kamani mukaan.

Not that I couldn't get the actual saw frame from plenty of places, but the blade was the problem here. As I gathered they are a bit finer than normally used by carpenters and such. And you need quite fine blades to cut silver rings nicely.

So, last Friday I finally managed to get to the shop before it closed - just. There we, the shop keeper and I, chose the saw frame (no, it does not have to be the deluxe 25 euro model, the cheaper economy one will do nicely, thank you) and I also got a pack of blades and pair of pliers. And then I discovered that they only take cash. I never carry cash. Luckily there was an ATM near the shop so I could take my purchases home.

Tovin hinkattuani olin saanut sahattua vinon pinon renkaita (kuvassa vain osa). Enkä saanut katki kuin yhden terän! Olin tästä hieman huolissani, koska ostin vain yhden paketin teriä ja siinä oli vain krossi.

Then a while spent in repetitive motion and I got myself a whole new pile of silver rings (photo contains only part of them). And I managed to break only one blade while doing it! I was a bit worried for I only bought one pack of saw blades and that was only a gross.

Mies toi minulle eilen jotain kivaa kaupasta. Toiset saa ruusuja, toiset saa...työntömitan. Olen jo pidemmän aikaa himoinnut moista, tosin sellaista digitaaliversiota, mutta kun ne hyvät sellaiset mokomat ovat niin kalliita. Saa tämä perinteisempi versio sitten kelvata.

My husband brought me something nice from the store yesterday. Some girls get flowers, some get...a caliper. I've wanted one for ages, though one of those nifty digital ones. But the darned things are so expensive, the proper ones, so I'll just have to make do with the more basic type.
