Uusimpia hankintoja - Latest acquisitions

Keskeneräisten töiden paraati täällä senkun jatkuu. Mitään ei ole valmistunut ja hamsterikuukausikin loppui jo (enkä ole vielä ostanut yhtään uutta lankaa). En siis saanut epätoivon vimmallakaan neulomaani pikkupuseroa valmiiksi. Viikonlopun sain neulottua aika kivasti, mutta sitten alkoivatkin vaikeudet: punttisalilla piti käydä maanantaina, tiistaina oli Leppävaaratapaaminen (siellä sain sentään hihat tehtyä), keskiviikkona piti käydä ystävän kanssa kaljalla ja kuuntelemassa Dublin-opastusta (Dublin kutsuu talvilomalla huhtikuun alussa) ja tänäänkin piti käydä ystävän kanssa nauttimassa teetä ja leivoksia (Mmmmm....leivoksia....mmmm). Neulominen on siis jäänyt hieman taka-alalle, mutta kyllä se siitä.

The parade of unfinished knits here at Knitter's block continues. Nothing is finished and the yarn diet month is over (and I haven't bought any new yarn yet). I did not manage to finish my small top even with all the desperate knitting I did. I managed to knit all weekend quite nicely, but then the troubles started: Monday I had to go to the gym, Tuesday was the Leppävaara knit-meet (though I did manage to knit the sleeves there), Wednesday I met a friend over some beers and Dublin advice (Dublin calls on my winter holiday, the beginning of April) and today I met another friend over some tea and cakes (Mmmm....cakes...mmmm). So knitting has not been a priority in my life this week, but I have managed to get something done.

Ja tässä se mitä olen tehnyt. Ja kyllä, kuva on huono, mutta miten ihmeessä sitä voi saada hyvän kuvan pyöröneuleena neulotusta puserosta? Olen hiukan kainalonkohdan yläpuolella, eli olen liittänyt hihat vartaloon ja aloitellut raglankavennuksia. Malli mukailee siis olemassaolevaa kaupasta ostettua silkki/cashmirtoppia (lankasnobius on muuttunut yleissnobiudeksi nähtävästi). Pusero on hieman muotoiltu ja siihen tulee raglanhihat ja neulon sen pyörönä ilman sauman saumaa. Lanka on jo aiemminkin mainittu Lana Grossan Merino superfein, puikot 3mm (argh! Olisi pitänyt järkevästi valita jotain paksumpaa jotta olisin saanut jotain valmista ennen lankahamstereiden loppua). Kuvassa eivät värit kovin hyvin näy, mutta se on nyt niin muodikasta pätkävärjättyä väreinä mm. lemmikinsininen, punaoranssi, fuksianpunainen ja harmaa. Vihreää löytyy myös ja tummaa lilaa. Eli siis paljon erilaisia värejä. Lopputulos on kuitenkin yllättävän mukava. Yritän ottaa viikonloppuna vähän parempia kuvia.

Above is the something I've managed to do. And yes, the picture is not good but how can you get a good picture from a top knitted on circular needles? I'm slightly above the armpit point meaning that I've joined the sleeve to the body and have started the raglan decreases. The model is somewhat similar to an existing store-bought silk/cashmere top (yarn snobism has apparently widened to general snobism). The top is slightly fitted and there will be raglan sleeves and I'm knitting it with circular needles and it will be completely seamless. The yarn I'm using is the previously mentioned Lana Grossa Merino superfein, needles 3mm (argh, I should have chosen something thicker so that I could have finished it before the end of stash reduction month but apparently I wasn't smart enough). The colours are not very clear in the picture but the yarn is ah, so fashionable multicolour yarn, with colours like sky blue, reddish orange, dark fuchsia and grey. There's also green and dark lilac. So lots of different colours. The result is surprisingly nice though. I'll try to get better pictures during the weekend.

Jos siis kerran en ole ostanut lisää lankaa, niin mitä uusia hankintoja olen siis tehnyt? Neulekirjoja tietysti! Näitä tilailin hamsterikuukauden aikana kun sitä ei ollut kielletty ;-) Osa on vielä matkalla, mutta ensimmäinen saapui tänään: Montse Stanleyn Knitter's Handbook. Kyseessä on aika tuhti opus, sisällysluetteloineen kaikkineen peräti 319 sivua. Ja niinkuin nimi sanookin, kyseessä on lähdeteos. Täältä löytyy neuvoa monenlaiseen kavennukseen, levennykseen, silmukoiden luontiin jne. Olen vasta hiukan selaillut opusta, mutta kiinnostavan näköinen kirja.

So if I haven't bought any new yarn what are the promised new acquisitions then? Why knitting books of course. These I ordered during the stash reduction month since that wasn't forbidden ;-) Some of them are still on the way but the first one I got today, the one above: Knitter's Handbook by Montse Stanley. It's a pretty heavy volume, index and all included a total of 319 pages. And as the name already mentiones it's more of a reference book. How-to book for all kinds of increases, decreases etc. I've only just glanced at it but it seems quite interesting.

Ja vaikka en normaalisti paljon päivän tapahtumia täällä kommentoikaan niin kyllä täytyy ihmetellä päivän kolarisumaa. Kaikilla Helsingin sisääntuloväylillä kolisi enemmän tai vähemmän ja uskomattomat yli 400 autoa oli osallisena ketjukolareissa. Siis uskomatonta, ajatelkaa mikä määrä! Ikävämpää on vielä se, että kolme ihmistä kuoli turmissa. Täytyy kyllä ihmetellä että miten moinen on mahdollista. Mielestäni keli ei nyt niin huono aamulla ollut, kyllähän sitä lunta tuprutti ja näkyvyys oli paikoitellen huono, mutta silti. Ei se mikään lumimyrsky sentään ollut. Onko se sitten niin, että jotkut ihmiset eivät enää osaa sopeuttaa ajotapojaan vallitsevaan säähän ja pitää ajaa niin kovaa kuin kärrystä lähtee? Eihän tuommoiseen kyllä tarvita kuin muutama kämmeltäjä ja sitten käy noin. Hohhoh. Ei voi muuta sanoa.

And although I don't normally much comment on current affairs here I have to wonder what has happened in Helsinki today. All major incoming roads were more or less blocked because of car crashes and accidents and an astounding amount of over 400 cars were involved in these (and the major incoming roads can be counted with the fingers of a one hand) chain crashes. Can you believe of the amount? What's even more sad is that three people died in one of these accidents (the worst). I can't but wonder how that was possible. I don't think the weather whas particularly bad this morning, I mean sure it snowed and the visibility was a bit poor at times, but still. It wasn't a blizzard. Is it so that some people can't adjust their driving habits and speed to the prevailing weather anymore and they have to drive as fast as they can no matter what? You don't need many goofballs to cause an accident and then look what happens. Sigh.. Can't say more than that.
